I think the 'discomfort' is the medical opinion.  Same with Crochet throwing or Suarez running.  If you feel discomfort, you stop.

And moved him to Ft Myers so that rehab could go at his own pace and he wouldn't be pressured most likely.

What do you do for rehab? Sent him to Florida to get him away from the Marshmallow Man most likely.

The didn't eat anything when they moved Semien.

They traded him for a contract about $30mill larger…

Paid out over 2 more seasons and for a player that is actually capable of being an everyday player. Doesn't feel like eating money in the classic sense, just a one for one change of scenery swap.

The Braves' specialist said they're doing the right thing and on the right track. He'll be ready when he's ready.

The main issue was (once again) the FO getting the messaging wrong at the beginning of the injury.

With all due respect, who are you going to believe?  One of the best doctors in the world, or a Red Sox fan?  I think Breslow should take a poll of RS fans on Talksox to decide whether or not he requires an operation.

IRT messaging, better to not even pay attention.

Sox need power. If they are going to park Paredes at DH, fine. I've heard HOU isn't selling though.

You going to ante decent+ prospects to try for a minor upgrade at DH?

I'm not sure we're in a position to know surgery was the right route.

The fans always know more than the doctors.  That's Rule #1 in social media.

I've been saying it since day 1 of the injury. They tried rehabbing and it hasn't worked. Would have been quicker to just get surgery like other players have done.

I wonder if he feels like he’s getting his pound of flesh and proving to everyone that he was the smartest guy in the room all along.

If we know anything about human nature, it is that positive reinforcement does wonderful things for your ego.  And rightfully so.

It's a different case.  They took on Nimmo's contract.

Strangest comment of the day so far, but it is still early.

With all due respect, I am still going to trust a doctor with 30 years of experience, who has seen the MRIs, and talked to the player, over that of an account, or whatever.

Of course you could be right.  If you called a raise with a 2-7 off-suit, and flopped 2-2-7, you'd be right, but I would still respect the opinion of the experts.

Do we know if the doctor first suggested surgery with this plan as plan B or 2A?

Only to get beat by a player who had a pocket pair of 3's , and a turn of another 3, followed by a 3 on the river.

Semien was worth 3.4 bWAR last year while Nimmo was worth 2.8 bWAR.  The Mets wanted the infield defense.

It was a very equal trade…

So they aren't eating money, it's just a very equal trade?

I agree!

No one in here knows.  Probably 90% of the RS employees don't know.

But as your medical accountant, I feel safe in saying that, if the doctor said he had to have surgery, one of two things could happen:

  • They go for a second opinion.
  • They have the surgery.

Once upon a time, I had a torn meniscus.  It wasn't a huge issue, and the doctor explained the pros and cons.  I declined, and 15 years later, I did have the surgery.  In both cases, I feel I made the right decision.

The point being is that not all medical decisions are B&W.  The doctor might have given the RS a wide range of options and outcomes.

Catcher: Langeliers or Goodman (Rental: Jeffers)

SS: Abrams or Adames (Neto is likely a pipedream)

2B: Arraez, BLowe (LHB) or Torres (Steer?)

Earlier, they tried to have him push through the pain and do some dry swings. It made the problem worse. Now they are waiting it out.

Should have done surgery when it first happened like it said. 12 weeks at most and he would have been ready to go. Now? Potentially lost season. We're already 11 weeks post injury!!!

Was surgery an option for Anthony? I always thought it was a sprain and we just needed to wait it out.  But this is beyond frustrating.  Looks to be a total lost season for him.  As I said earlier imagine if he was in the lineup giving what we all expected, imagine this win streak then.

“We’re not going to resume hitting if there’s still discomfort in the hand,” Tracy said, per The Boston Globe. “That’s a big piece of our lineup. It would be great to get him back. The whole point is we don’t want our player, that player, to play injured, especially when it comes to swinging the bat. So, just continuing to get him to where he feels very confident in his mind that that hand feels good. That’s our goal.”

So it's just up to Anthony? No medical opinion offered? Heck horse owners spend more money taking care of their investment.

it's not his drinking had so he doesn't care when it heals.

In this universe, Anthony's presence may not have affected the 13 game streak since the record shows the Sox won all of them.

OTOH he might have helped when they were on the way to -14 vs .500

Why not? He should have been on the trade block two years ago.

Really??  Who else do you think is trade bait for the next 2 weeks?

The Yanks and Rays won, so that kinda sucks, but MIN lost and TEX lost.

We are 1.5 up on SEA, who is playing now.

+3 on BAL & MIN

-1 DET

-4.5 NYY

-6 TBR
