Awesome. Like the Campbell, Bello and Rafaela deals.

BREAKING: Outfielder Roman Anthony and the Boston Red Sox are finalizing an eight-year, $130 million contract extension, sources tell ESPN. The deal, which is pending a physical, includes a club option and will keep Anthony under team control through 2034. https://www.espn.com/contributor/jeff-passan/cad97f9ebe23a?modifier=webview http://espn.com/app

Breslow gets a trade deadline pass from me now.

Sweet deal for Anthony.  He still gets to be a free agent by age 30…

Best news I’ve heard today.  He seems like he really does love it here.  Great long term sign.

Next up Bregman, followed by Giolitto and then Chapman on my wish list.  A few little tweaks here and there and this team will compete for quite some time.  Get me in to old age.  Like to see a for real power hitting first baseman brought in as well as one more real quality arm.  Not too much to ask.  Put them together with what we now have and let the good times roll.

Bregman, sure. Giolito, maybe. I think he's going to want to go to FA. Chapman, no. Maybe like a one year extension for Chapman.

The one player we've never heard about being extended is Abreu. Makes it easier for him to be traded if he's year to year. Marcelo's injury concerns make me hesitant to give him one.

How soon do they look into an extension for Tolle? This offseason?

Based on Mayer's injury history do you think the Sox may delay until next season to offer him an extension. His wrist problem I'm sure has the FO concerned.

Unless he's going to go well below market, Sox may wait a while on Mayer.

Bergman forever -  I just dream about him and Varitek working together some day. Giolito for two and one year extension for Chapman.  I think your reasoning with respect to Abreau is on right on.  As much as I like Mayer, His injury history concerns me too.  Tolle might be the next one up.  I’m not surprised that Mayer had the injection and really wants to get back this year.  Who wouldn’t.  This is a special group.  I want it duly noted that I am sitting here thinking real good thoughts about what Breslow and the management team is doing.  Rafaela, Bello, Crochet, Anthony, Campbell.  Anybody else I’m, missing here? I think that they are getting out in front  of a trend that will keep them competitive for years to come.  It also satisfies a need that some long time fans like me need - I want players who I know are coming back year after year.

Jared Carrabis made a point that I wholeheartedly agree with. Breslow is very smart and is putting this team on a great direction and we need to trust it. However, he needs to have someone else do all the communicating for him. Some experienced GM can come in and deal with other teams and the media as the second in command. Breslow struggled in the interview process communicating. Breslow struggled with his communications with Devers. Breslow struggles communicating with other front offices at the deadline (reports are that other teams don't want to deal with the Sox again and don't think highly of Breslow). Breslow has struggled communicating to the fans via the media. Just take that part of his job away from him!

I’ve heard some of what you mention here.  I agree.  Let him do what he does best.

You -- you articulated this so well... Sam Kennedy just said that by October, the veteran moderators on talksox should be better than no matter how many new posters the forum recruits.

MVP for GM!! The other 8,000 members for Asst. VPs!!!!!!!!!

What a great move.  Of all the long term deals for young players you have to like this one the best as he just has so much more upside.  Sure it's a gamble but one worth the risk.

These types of extensions are always with risk, but IMO, it's the way to go.  It's a win-win.

I would rather see Breslow spending money on extending our youngsters than spending it on aging free agents.

Great job on both sides!

Great job on both sides.

Roman Anthony is on a 5-6 win pace if he ended up with a full season of PAs.  The ball is not going over the fence at the rate promised - but he has been mostly as advertised.

Does this count as some of the Devers money spent?

I was just going to ask that!  Doesn't make me feel any better about losing RD than I did about losing Mookie.  But at least the money isn't going to pay for JH's slip fees.

I'm really liking the direction this team has taken since Brez took over.

Indeed. I think he's mostly made very good moves. Some questionable ones as well, but that's part of the deal.

We've got a good one.

Now if he could just talk more like a normal human being on times...
