Romy Gonzalez is the greatest player in the history of baseball ever cut by the worst team in baseball history.

The preceding is irrefutable -- even if Romy never has another good MLB season again in his life...

Another out of synch observation... I am sure Casas will be at Ft Myers come next February but I doubt he will be on the opening day  lineup  and possibly not on the MLB  active roster.

But I still wish Masa was a catcher.

Meh.  Let's go with what we got, a DH who right now is hotter than Devers.

The thing about pitchers is they own the game when they are on the mound.  Campbell just trotted out there and gave up 2 off a dinger.   In a close game, I'm still fine with a lousy hitting but good defensive catcher.  But in that same close game we absolutely need a better bullpen than we have.

Can't disagree.

I do appreciate that Venezuelan Carlos Narvaez does not need an interpreter  to have a conversation with TC .

You get the actual enthusiasm and  thoughts of the player.   I know just enough Spanish to know that the Sox interpreter does filter and edit what the guys are saying, mostly to simplify it .

Very glad Yoshida came out hot to stifle the question as to why Cora is playing him,.  Breslow is smiling from ear to ear as Yoshi's BTV soars.

It has to be said again.  In the 20 games since Devers left and Bregman has remained on the IL, the Sox have averaged over 6 runs a game.  Losing Devers has been about as painless as it can be.

When Bregman returns, the Sox will have a lineup that can hit like the dickens and play good defense.  Plus a good rotation rotation seems to be shaping up.  The bullpen, however, is still a problem

Were I Breslow I would try to make a deal for one or more relievers unless a good one can be made for a starter.  Even then, quality relievers would help.

I would not displace Wong, Yes, his hitting stinks, but he only plays in 1/3 of the games, and his defense and familiarity with the pitching staff will be invaluable.

All that said, I also think the next 12 games against the Rays, @ Cubs, @ Phillies, and back at Fenway vs the Dodgers will tell us a lot more about this team.   So tune in tomorrow for the first of a dozen exciting games.

When we are in the dogdays of late August, keep these last 6 games in memory for a feel good moment.

Late August is almost too far away to imagine.  But I looked it up and the Sox play the likes of Miami, Baltimore, Yankees, Baltimore again, and Pittsburgh.

The next 13 games are tougher:  Rays, @ Cubs, @ Phillies, and the Dodgers at Fenway.

Great game by Gio!

He's making the signing look like it was just bad luck for 2024.

It doesn't really come close to a balance on the Sale trade, but many viewed the savings from that trade as helping the Sox afford to sign a $19M x 2 pitcher not a $10M/1, or less, like we had been signing for years.

Now hearing much fire Brez and Cora talk, anymore.

Like the pen reinforcement with additions of Alcala and Hicks.

We still have decent farm even with top tier players having graduated.

Bres is the man.

The weak link right now is Wong. Big black hole when he plays.

Great job by Sox of late, hitting all over love Raffy/Duran/Story/Romy/Anthony all swinging hot sticks. Getting enough pitching, good to see Gio/Buehller good starts...hey 6-game win streak, I'll take it...4 games over .500 and this will be the time they trade Duran or do something stupid--please tell management don't screw this up with another roster movement. Go Sox!

I'm not getting fooled by a hot streak against terrible teams, Romy is having a career year but at some point he will revert to, well, Romy Gonzales.  I'm much more excited about Bello and to a lesser extent Gio and their recent performances.  And of course Anthony who continues to put the bat on the ball nearly every at bat.  Slapping singles all over the field like Wade Boggs with more power has me pretty amped.

What's there to like about Hicks? Alcala has at least performed.

He throws hard? lol

I'll pivot. Devers in 80 at bats, .344 OBP + .363 Slugging  = .707 OPS, 2 HR/9 RBI

Nope, I don't miss him at all. He better hit or he'll hear some boos quickly.

I like your Boggs' comparison... but as for Romy -- he may feel like he actually has reverted to his true self (after being cut by a team so pitiful that they're literally nicknamed after a racist brothel).

I prefer to look at the complete body of work and not the last few weeks when evaluating a player.

C'mon, you were just talking about Bello, Giolito and Anthony looking good.  It's fine to look at total bodies of work and to look at recent results too.

Gonzalez has a heck of a power stroke.  He really crushes it when he connects.

Anthony's underlying metrics have been great for a while, it just took a while for the numbers to catch up.

Giolito has been fantastic for 6 starts now. It was going to be bumpy coming back from TJS, but maybe he's all the way back?

Bello seems to be past that 4.2 IP mental barrier. 6 of his last 7 starts have been QS. I'm good if he's a legit 3.

Just keep Crochet healthy, get through this tough stretch of games and they'll be able to make a run at the end of August (pushover city: PIT, BAL, MIA, NYY). As long as they don't completely fall apart the next few weeks, maybe they do become buyers?

I said I was excited about their recent performances.  I never once said this is who they are and will be going forward.  Yet fans want to point to the Sox recent success and Dever's lack of success over a 2 week period as if this is somehow meaningful in the big picture.

It's not meaningless... We now know the Red Sox whiffers can obliterate minor league pitchers, and Giolito can shutout minor league hitters. And the big pitcher -- Mr. Crochet -- is finally smiling.

Because any momentum is better than nomentum (momentum is just another word for something left to win...).

The Sox recent success is absolutely meaningful.  They have pulled into a tie for the last wild card spot.

And sweeping the bad teams is not a gimme.  The Yankees and Rays both went 2-1 against the Rockies.
