Per Red Sox Stats: hot off the presses

The Red Sox have requested a meeting with Boras and Soto where they will be given price that would get a deal finalized.

From Alex, too. So legit.

If nothing else ownership is doing absolutely everything it can here.

I was ready to have my heart broken a week ago, I'm at the altar now, nervously looking over my shoulder.

By then, probably not.

I keep planting apple trees in my yard, but within two or three years they opt out.

I planted a Mexican Lime tree in my yard, a long time ago, but it transitioned into an orange tree. It told me, "I was born an orange tree."

The State of Texas now has my yard under surveillance.

I may face charges.

If the Sox sign Soto. Would want Devers moved to first and Yoshida moved also. Soto to DH mostly unless he's playing in Fenway Park.

Gold Glove finalist Juan Soto!

There is 0% chance the man is DH'ing.

Not until he's in his late 30's at least. You can put him in LF and he'd be fine. Terrible range. Plus arm (90th percentile arm value). He's better than Manny was.

Yes, but with a twist. The "Lime tree" died after a harsh winter freeze, and I cut it down, but the tree was actually  a lime tree grafted onto an orange tree roots, so when it came back, it was an orange tree.

The oranges were not very sweet, but my neighbor loved them.

No, I understood vaguely what happened that the lime tree was grated onto the orange tree and the lime tree failed somehow. Not all oranges are sweet. I wonder what type they were.

As long as he learns how to play balls off the Monster, Fenway is kind of a perfect fit for Soto's defensive (in)ability.

Somebody told me it was probably a Texas variety of oranges used for juice, only. (They were very juicy.)

LF at Fenway has provided cover for a lot of poor defensive players:

Williams

Rice

Greenwell

Manny

Bay

Gomes

Hanley

Yoshida

Soto does fit nicely into the Fenway situation. It might raise the likelihood of trading some players, where LF & DH might be their only landing spots:

Yoshida/Refsnyder (if not platoon DH'ing)

E Valdez

Cespedes

Castro and maybe JH Garcia or Nelly Taylor, someday

If it turns out we offered $675M/15 and still lose out on Soto, will those who believed JH would never spend big again, still feel that way?

Would it change, if he pivoted to a couple other big names, and ended up spending more AAV than the Soto deal was and going over the first tax line?

That would depend on whether or not Henry knew that $675M/15 would not get the deal done. If he makes the offer knowing it would be refused I'd still believe that Henry doesn't know what the words "full throttle" actually mean. Personally, I am skeptical that we will land ANY of the big names, given the recent history of the team dumpster diving.

I'm skeptical, too, and my "expectations" are still very low, but I can't control my hopes.

The only part about this I find "pie in the sky" is Colorado trade even with Arenado coming back to offset the dollars.

I don't mind not getting Soto-unless the Yankees get him. Our need is pitching. We need one or two top flight SPs to become relevant again and we need our existing RPs to pitch a lot better. Not so worried about our offense. One good RH bat and I think we are OK as long as we get better pitching.

You wouldnt make a 675m offer unless you were okay with it being accepted (even if you knew it still didnt make you the favorites).

Arenado is on STL, now, while COL is paying $5M a year. There was a rumor about a Cespedes, Arias for Arenado & Helsley trade, somewhere.

For aiding a tree change its sex, as in...

HAHA, meant STL.  Not all rumors are the same (as Im sure you know). If it was an SI writer or a fan article thats different than a rumor suggesting actual talks.

What makes you think that the meeting, if it happens, isn't just for show?

Because they've already gone too far to have it all be just for show. Not sure they'll get him, but they are certainly trying.

Henry IS one of the big boys. He's a billionairre with an estimated net worth of $6,000,000,000 (six BILLION dollars). He is apparently tired of spending like a big boy. A couple of years ago he declared that he wanted to get the budget under control, which is his right. Last year the Sox were 12th (middle third) after years of being much higher. Truth is, its not so much that the spending isn't there: its HOW the money has been spent. Dumpster diving is not going to make the team relevant again.
