I'd think if $600M/12 is that close to sealing the deal, we could go to $640M/14, if someone counters.

Why not -- it is my money, because if this happens, I promise to go back to Fenway, pay hundreds for tickets and parking, drink watered down beer in a plastic cup and eat fried peppers, onions and a heart attack on a soggy bun, with mustard and high fructose corn syrup!

What is up with all the ads on the board.  It's almost unreadable now.

Anyway if we were able to sign Soto, we should look to unload Devers and Story who are just long term liabilities.  We need a second baseman and pitchers.  But the Dodgers and Yankees are now closing in on Soto.

what ads? LOL...i don't see any on my browser.

Well if 600/12 is the current winning offer. I imagine if more term is the issue we'd have to go up to 700/14. But at this point I'm all in on SOTO. Just get this Deal DONE!

I will go to Fenway at least one more time if they sign Soto.

Passan

I am thankful for reporters who don’t make up stories.

I am also thankful that Juan Soto has not agreed to any contract, which means you can get off Twitter and go spend the holiday with your family.

Happy Thanksgiving

I am reading tweets that say Soto is coming to Boston. Now I don't know the credibility of these sources but it would be an incredible COUP if true. Soto is a franchise player you can build your whole team around.  I'm thinking maybe we should thinking of trading some excess players for a right handed bat to put in the first 5 of our starting lineup.

Christmas has come early in Boston should this HOLD TRUE!

The Tweet:
BREAKING NEWS - The Boston Redsox have signed free agent outfielder Juan Soto. The terms of the deal are still unknown but I’m hearing it’s 12 years with no deferred money. Expect an official announcement to come within the next few days:

Is this Tweet even real?  I don’t see it on that guys timeline…

I see it only if I Google the thing.  Ok.

But I don’t consider this Mick guy to be a good source of exclusive stories…

With the tax differences between Boston and NY, if the Sox offer is between $600-$625 then any NY offer would have to be $650-$680 to match that.

Sox are in on this.

And if Soto wants to buy a place in Manhattan, he’s going to need even more than that.  Probably double if he wants a parking space…

Zero faith in either of those tweets.  Those guys aren’t breaking stories…

The first one did break Jim Montgomery's sacking a day before everyone else, and he doesn't have any other wild predictions on his page that I can see, but yes, highly unlikely he has the information.

That said, I have healed. I'm ready to be used and abused and have my heartbroken again. If sport isn't about blind hope and optimism, followed by crushing disappointment, then what's it for I ask you!

Yesterday, after Passan finally tweeted to mock the "report," Mick replied, calling Passan a malaka for getting caught with his pants down, and standing by his declaration: Soto to Boston.

But this morning there is internet silence. Everyone is afraid -- really, in this age of disinformation? Ain't that American.

From what I can gather based on all the tweets and the credibility of tweeters and my own conjecture I think the offer happened; Soto signing may be premature.

im wondering if Ortiz is the leak.  He was talking with Soto yesterday and I’m wondering if Ortiz talked about that conversation with other people and perhaps David is convinced Soto is signing based on their conversations.  When in reality Soto may be excited about Boston but he’s really considering NY as well.  It ain’t over.  We all know how the game of telephone goes and by the time that information slips to another person or two it turns into “omg Soto is signing here”

I just wonder if NY comes in goes $700 million if Soto gives Boston’s the chance to up their offer or he just signs elsewhere and a lot of people in Boston look really dumb.

if Soto cares about the total money and factors in the taxes then a $700 million dollar offer is equivalent to Boston ponying up $644.  They could swoop in with $650 and secure the deal.

but who knows, maybe the $625 gets them across the finish line.

All the twitter guys don't tend to have their own sources, but are taking it from other places. This story came from a spanish podcast I believe that was translated and then some smol bean twitter dudes ran with it.

No name guys can make grand declarations and then just disappear if it goes wrong. If it works out, they are seen as INSIDERS even though they just scrapped their news from losers like Mario Pepen or whoever.

Boras will always seek to squeeze every last penny out of bidders for his clients -- that's his job.

But egos aside; when a player is already guaranteed to be paid more money than he or his great-great grandkids can ever spend, then it all comes down to where he really wants to work for the next decade (or half-decade with an opt-out).

Sorry... for a second there, I almost sounded logical.
