The pitching is in better shape, but they do need another starter, and most of all for the rotation to stay healthy.

Criswell was ok? The trades at the deadline are usually prohibitively expensive. I think they could get a good RHB and maybe a SS that can actually field the position. Maybe they grab a long reliever that is an upgrade over Chase Andersen?

It was 1st on my list.

Again, we were talking as if we were going to trade and be sellers. It's hard to imagine you not knowing that.

Again, this thread was "if you were Breslow, who would you trade FOR?" Now that the Sox are actually in the Wild Card lead, you want to talk about them trading Pivetta. Why?

Indeed, but again, Martin is not a closer and Pivetta will likely triple his IP in AUG & SEP, and this was all based on Nick doing well over the next 6 weeks.

Pivetta is going to throw 100+ innings in 2 months? How?

Getting a SP'er would maybe make Criswell the long guy over Anderson. When Criswell returns, Keller will likely be demoted.

Zack Kelly can go 3, too.

If we bring up Wink, he'd be in that mix, too.

At some point, Campbell will get another shot. Maybe he replaces Booser, despite him being a LHP.

Martin will throw maybe 20 IP in AUG-SEP, and Nick might throw 60.

You seriously did not get that point?

The team trading for Martin or Pivetta is looking at the value of 15-20 IP from Martin vs 50-60 from Pivetta.

It starts with a single inning…

Even if he threw a complete game in each start for two straight months, he wouldn't get to 100 innings.

Posted
Josh Winckowski (surplus value - 5.7mill) for Pete Alonso (6.3 mill).

Mets get a solid bullpen arm with 4+ years of control. Red Sox get a slugging right-handed 1b/DH who screams at opposing pitchers if his moonshots drift into foul territory…

Given that it's shaping up to be a robust sellers market, you might have to pay a little bit more than that to wiggle Alonso away from another team.

I see, I was getting confused by your pronouns.

They can have Bryan Mata too.

Sox needs:

Pitching. Preferably a starter since we only have 4.

Available Targets?: Tyler Anderson, Jack Flaherty, Chris Flexen, Sean Manaea, Colin Rea to name a few.

Defensive SS

Available Targets?: Paul DeJong, Brandon Crawford, Nick Ahmed, Luis Rengifo

That’s all you ever talk about is to trade, and be sellers. I’m all for being buyers myself if the circumstances warrant it, and the price is right. Being a seller does not sound like fun to me, and I thought you were all about doing your Cyndi Lauper impression, and having fun. Being a Buyer to me would be a lot more fun, and I’m sure Cora, and the players in that clubhouse would agree. 2021 was a lot morefun than the past two years.

He would if those games were 15 innings long each…

Assuming the Mets even sell, the market for Alonso could be enormous. I like when deals work out on BTV, but this one screams potential overpay…

I know the Aaron Civale trade has not worked out well for the Rays, but I wonder if Brez will look for a pitcher with 2+ years of control, like that trade was.

He doesn't seem like the type of GM that would grossly overpay for a 2 month rental, but this is his first deadline, so we'll see.

IMO, he will likely do a few under the radar type deals, but maybe we see a Schwarber type deal, this year.

Tyler Anderson is in year 2 of a 3 year $39mill contract. I have seen blurbs he is available. The main reason I doubt this is that Tyler has (very) quietly taken over the American League lead in bWAR among starting pitchers. But if he is available, he might be Andy Bailey’s type…

Crazy with those extra runners starting in the 10th.

And, he might be worth overpaying to get.

Now, what would an overpay look like?

I can't see a top 3 prospect going, or even Cespedes or Bleis, but would we trade Zanetello & Sandlin? (Maybe add Wink?) Would LAA accept?

How about Bleis & Wink?

4.55 FIP for Anderson. Zanetello/Bleis shouldn't be in the conversation IMO.

The goal for both buying and selling would be to improve the chances at making the playoffs AND dealing with our depreciating assets ( expiring contracts who will not be resigned) , possibly clearing up a few positional logjams, like OF/DH .

Unlikely to happen because of too many variables but I could see Breslow actually reshape this team significantly by the deadline . The key being, can he replace Pivetta with an equal, but more years of control. Can he move Yoshida at any cost? Is Casas likely to recover, stay well and pick up his stroke again quickly? Jansen and Martin , tough choices, but can I get a starting 2Bman , so I can keep Grissom at Worcester for rest of 2024 ? With Reyes gone, who is at 3B if Devers gets injured ? Don't say Dalbec, please. The BP has performed well but going to the stretch run, are Anderson, Campbell, Booser, Keller ( some now shuttling to WooSox) ready for Primetime ? Are Valdez, Hamilton, Heineman, Westbrook, Gonzalez, Dom Smith, even McGuire and Grissom

all part of your 2025 plans. They are on your 40 man now.

The point being, there are lots of moving parts

Send the LAA 2 pitchers and Yoshida, and you might get Anderson. Criswell, Winckowski and Yoshi, oh yeah, plus about $25 million. Moreno will slobber over the money

BTV still values him at -8.5. We can go lower…

Presumably why Fangraphs only values him at a non-MLB leading 1.0 fWAR…

Someone named cactus put a trade on BTV. Yoshida and Yorke (total: -9.5) for Anderson (-8.5)…
