It isn't only the land, the Red Sox are a cash cow. He is using Boston's cash flow and prestige as leverage to help attract investors in FSG to finance their expansion into other high cash flow ventures.

From a purely entrepreneurally perspective He is running the Red Sox brilliantly.

He has run the Sox brilliantly, but there is a chance that the value of the franchise does start to fall due to his current mismanagement..

I always thought that movie was a ripoff of the much better Bull Durham. In fact, I would be willing to wager that movie was pitched with someone saying "The premise is we take the characters from Bull Durham, but this time, they're in the Majors."

The only similarities are that they are movies about baseball.

The value of the Red Sox franchise really has less to do with their on field record then the overall state of professional baseball in general and the Greater Boston economy in particular.

As long as MLB thrives and the Massachusetts economy grows the Red Sox franchise will be a highly valued asset.

… that are centered around a down and out veteran catcher (Tom Berenger / Kevin Costner) whose primary responsibility is to mentor a young flamethrower (Charlie Sheen / Tim Robbins) with massive control problems while trying to also control the attention of his love interest (Rene Russo / Susan Sarandon). Both movies also feature characters with deep Christians (Chelcie Ross / William O’Leary) and voodoo practitioners (Dennis Haysbert / Rick Marzan), but only one really has that religious squabble as a side story, so I guess that makes them completely different.

Sox could be that bad, but how can the Yankees possibly be that good?

Just last week, someone apparently hacked your user name and posted: "we cannot go into 2024 (a true all in year) with this rotation minus Cole"

The offense is gonna be good. The pitching behind Cole looks healthy coming into the year which is good. Without Cole, this team should beat up on bad teams with the new balanced schedule. Without Cole, I think we can get into the POs. Without Cole, we get bounced early in the POs, which is a failure in the Bronx

The balanced schedule was in place in 2023. Did it help the Yanks?

Your offense.

Adding Soto was huge, but you guys finished 25th in runs scores in '23. (99 fewer runs than the Sox)

You are getting older, and injuries are already piling up.

Stanton with 3 HRs in 4 innings vs Pirates just finished his highlight reel for 2024. wait until he strains a lat or hamstring running out a DP ball.

About 10 Yankees are China Dolls.

"Deep left, it is high, it is far, that is gone. Out of the ballpark! A Stantonian home run … now what did I miss? He's still at first?"

Stanton is going to get a lot of rest this year. Grisham is gonna get a lot of looks in the OF which should allow Stanton to start vs every lefty and rest when needed. Verdugo is a massive upgrade over the 2023 detritus in the OF. Soto is one of the best players in baseball. Judge now has protection. Volpe is year 2 is huge. Wells behind the plate means a lot more offense from a position that had none last year. This team is gonna hit and will likely be top 5 in baseball in runs scored.

On paper, the Yankees seem much improved from last year. The addition of Soto ( and to a lesser extent Verdugo) corrects a major imbalance in their lineup. The question is: Can they all stay healthy or will injuries be their downfall ? Their history indicates that it will again be a big problem in the Bronx.

I think Baltimore is going to be tough this year, I can see them winning the division.

I could see almost any team except for the Sox.

They did win it last year. And then added a former Cy Young winner…

The Sox came in last two years ago and added a two-time Cy Young... and sustained their status woe!

Can the Sox even lose the division? Don't they need to be in contention before they can blow it?

The worst we can do is to stay the same: last place.

Last place is likely again but we could do worse by having a lower winning percentage.

LeMahieu to start season on IL.

The Yankees acquired Joe Berti from Miami to fill in for him.

Must be nice when injuries trigger the front office to react on occasion. Per BTV, the Yankees underpaid for him…

The guy they traded for:

John Cruz is the only player that Fangraphs has tracked (at least since 2006) to have been younger than 18 and have a .900+ OPS in over 200 plate appearances at the complex

Obviously he's super young and a lot can happen, but his FCL performance was literally unheard of

John Cruz, who is everyone's favorite breakout prospect, is heading to Miami.

18 year old with projection, hit 10 HR in 48 CPX games last year.

Made good in-zone contact(83%) and had a 101 90th percentile EV which is solid for his age.

John Cruz is already a Top 200 prospect for me and realistically could be Top 50 overall by the end of 2024.

Oh, we can do MUCH worse than that!

Well March 28 is finally here. Is everyone excited? For me I’ll be watching March Madness tonight, and then the Celtics, and Bruins will be in the PS for who knows how long, so the Red Sox will be on the back burner for awhile, so hopefully when they come to the front they will be somewhat relevant. Good luck to those who will be keeping a close eye on things.

So this is your last post on the Red Sox for a while then. OK, catch you after the Celts and Bruins are done.

Come on man! You know there is still box scores, and highlights, which is better than listening to OB, and the Yuckers.🙈🤭

I know I am going into this season with excitement about a lot of our players- most are young and promising, and some have already shown glimpses of high level skills.

I'm not expecting much more than 80-84 wins, and losing sucks, but I'm looking forward to seeing how our future starts to take shape.

I'll be watching the minors, more this year, and I hope some prospects take big steps forward.

Let the game begin!

I'll put the game on, but likely won't finish it. I have no interest in March Madness.
