Plan B s dropping, quickly.

Despite the contrary being said, the price for pitching appears to be dropping, Breslow could look like a genius if he waits out the market and signs a Montgomery or Snell on the cheap.

He won't, because I don't think Henry will let him. But I'd be willing to bet that both Montgomery and Snell get less than their MLBtraderumors.com projected contracts now at this point. We already know Snell was offered 50 million less than his projection, Yankees balked and went Stroman.

I could be wrong, but lets see how this plays.

Sox haven't cleared enough payroll to be buyers!

Monty might take less to play for TEX, so I'm not sure he can be used as a barometer, but you are right, several pitchers are signing for less than projected.

We aren't getting Monty or Snell, so if they sign for way less, even that won't matter, except to fans who will wonder why we can't pay even lower-than-expected prices.

I guess we tried to shop Yoshida to save some budget space for a pitcher, but my guess is teams wanted us to pay more of his deal that we felt was worth it. I'm thinking Jansen could be traded at face value, but that hardly makes us better in 2024.

Even if we added Monty with the savings plus other budget space, we don't get better by enough to catch the 3rd or 4th place teams in our division.

To me, if we are giving up on 2024, then do it "full throttle!" It may help to wait for the deadline on some players, like Gio and maybe Jansen, but go ahead and trade everyone not nailed down beyond 2024:

Janssen

Martin (hate to see him go)

Pivetta

Deadline: O'Neill & Gio.

I might even look at 2 year guys: McGuire & Refsnyder, but what would they bring us?

Sign guys to 1 year deals with the intent of trading them in July.

Boras has form for this. He often holds his players back and they rarely do poorly out of it.

I think there's enough teams out there needing pitching that will pony up. Desperation goes both ways.

That said, if it does go as you think - I hope we snatch Monty (even though he seems intent on going back to Texas). Don't want Snell.

Sorry man, I'm venting for therapeutic reasons. But at the same time I actually believe most of what I'm saying...that's the worst of it.

Haha! I mean I think you've both jumped the shark a little bit, but you're both indicative of just how disillusioned this fanbase has become with an ownership group that seems intent on mocking them, not least with sky high ticket prices.

It won't happen, but if the Sox fans voted with their feet, and I mean really voted with their feet. s*** would change in a hurry. Liverpool fans took them on and won.

Why do you believe he'd take less? His wife is starting a job in St Louis. Wouldn't he take less from St Louis if anywhere?

It does, but it's better than pretending on 2024 and being worse in 2025 and beyond because of the pretending.

I think Sox fans have voted with their feet before (pre-Pedro days). It's not unthinkable.

I heard the viewer share on NESN went from a high of 12 in 2007 to 3 in 2023. Did that make JH jump to attention?

Is STL offering more than TEX?

It's almost like the whole tv industry has changed since then or something!

It does goes both ways, and I can't deny the reputation Boras has, but his clients from time to time do get screwed, and end up taking a one year deal when they're left with no suitors at the end of FA.

I still think they don't beat their projections.

Texas has no state income taxes. That’s also a benefit….

Sure, but does that mean he'd take less $$$?

You would have to ask Montgomery himself. But I doubt he’ll take less money to play anywhere; players don’t hire Scott Boras so they can take less money…

Does any player hire any agent so they can make less money???

Absolutely not. Which is why I never think of it as am option.

I do recall one pitcher - I think it was Rick White, but I’m a not sure, taking a deal with a team (St. Louis?) because there was a special school in that city his son needed. But I also recall that pitcher working out his own deal without an agent…
