Yes, but if the reset was always part of the plan, then how much higher could we have gotten in the rankings without going over the tax line?

That was my point.

Yes, the ranking slip was a major choice made, and I'm assuming not by Bloom.

I understand your point. I'm saying if the narrative is the Sox were all in to contend, worrying about going over the tax line 2 years in a row, while a lot of other teams are outspending them, suggests that they're full of s***.

Wrong. If they were going to go over:

Why trade Vaz?

Why admit they tried trading JD?

They got prospects for Vaz and McGuire to replace him.

Bloom was apparently hoping someone might get stupid with an offer for JD.

nonetheless if that IS true that may well have been one of the reasons Bloom was fired as that would have lowered the payroll even more

There's plenty of legitimacy to firing Bloom, but he's obviously a scapegoat, and all these stories coming out are obviously a smear campaign to make the FO look good.

Not saying any strife towards Bloom isn't justified, but if people can't smell the stink coming out of the FO on this, they have no sense of smell.

Wrong again. I said there was reports out there that said Bloom was never told he had to trade Betts. Before I saw that report in the past my main criticism on the trade was that they didn’t get enough back like some pitching. I had always assumed that the decision to trade Mookie was made before Bloom was hired. Maybe trading Mookie was one of the reasons DD,and JH had the fallen out.

And shortly before the date for renewal of season tickets, Bloom had a conference call with season ticket holders and assured them that his #1 priority was to make Mookie a Red Sox for life. The deadline for renewal was December 17th. Within a few weeks, the trade Mookie rumors started. I dismissed the rumors because of his unequivocal position to do everything to keep Mookie. Certainly, he would try to resign him and wouldn’t trade him. I think he lied to us, and with all my criticisms of GM’s, I can’t remember any of them lying to the fans. For all of my criticisms of Benny, he was extremely honest. He never told us that he would do one thing and then did the opposite. He had integrity.

I can smell what Sam, and JH have cooked up, and it’s stinking to high heaven. Probably another ticket price increase too just to stir the pot.

One thing we all seem to agree on.

Great point, but it was only a lie, if he knowingly misrepresented the facts.

Are we sure he knew on that date, a trade was a real possibility?

If yes, he lied.

(He may have been told to lie, but it would still be a lie. My guess is, it was a blatant lie.)

Kennedy is another liar. At a luncheon with the season ticket holders a few years back, he told us that the Red Sox would be very interested in Bryce Harper. Was there a single report of the Red Sox meeting with him, making inquiries or an offer? No. There is no reason to lie to or mislead the most loyal and financially supportive segment of your fan base. Kennedy should be flushed out with the organizational enema.

Kennedy is being paid to be the front man and lie whenever necessary.

I can say one thing.

It feels like the firing, and the obvious STENCH coming from Henrys office has done something we haven't seen around here in ages.

Unite the fan base.

Fans don't really dislike Bloom the Man. He isn't a bad guy, and his company lies are wrapped up in so much logorrhea that they aren't punchable offenses (like those spewing from Sam Kennedy).

The hatred -- or at least dread -- even in the unconscious state, was for Bloom the System, and what he always represented: 1. cutting payroll, which meant "cutting" star players that fans love to root for and want playing for their favorite team; and 2. not investing enough in legitimate MLB replacements to the detriment of the big league W-L record during a multi-year franchise rebuild he could never admit to.

The entire Bloom Era was a John Henry Production. But don't feel bad for Chaim, who knew what he was getting into, and was well-paid; he'll be ok.

The fans just need to recover. But first, Boston needs to recover the fans...

Well said.

Also, the best trade chip they had was Bogaerts, and they informed him they wouldn't try to trade him. That had to be rubber-stamped by ownership. So how could they bitch about not getting under the threshold?

Why wait for a stupid offer. You get under the CBT because the plan was to give Nate and Xander QO’s. That gives the Sox extra 2nd round picks rather than extra 4th round picks.

Henry has a huge piece of blame pie to eat. I’m no fan.

They had trades for Sale and JD that Bloom passed on. Easy enough to complain.

The point is that with reports out there, which I just found out about a few weeks ago just make me more skeptical of the who thing. That’s all.

Sorry, it’s not believable. The job description was trade Mookie.

But they were all in to contend every season, they tell us!

None of it really adds up to a coherent story.

You can be all in on April 1, but realize it’s time to deal on July 31.

If ownership realized that, they would have approved a fire sale.

Actually I read another report this morning that DD was actually in trade talks with the Dodgers about Mookie during the 2019 season when things wasn’t looking so good, but then the Red Sox went on a winning streak, so the Red Sox backed off. Might of gotten a better return for Mookie then, so just another thought for fodder.

Our fans deserve the best! That's why we didn't pay Mookie or Xander and we cut payroll and raised ticket prices!

And that's why we gave a .180 hitter the big bucks, those that were left over from profits.
