Take out Blake Snells two cy young seasons and who is he?

Snell might give you a Cy Young season, and then for disappear for 3 seasons, or forever.

Take out his two best years and this is what he is.

118 2/3 IP 3.94 ERA 2.43 WAR

I'm not saying that guy is not valuable, and can't help your team win. But he just turned down $30 million a year for 5 years, because he is looking for either more money per or an extra year. He's 31, and while some pitchers pitch well into their 30's, most do not. I could be wrong, it seems there's always one guy who can be dug up to break the mold, but I personally can't think of one pitcher who showed that level of inconsistency in their 20's who went on to be a good pitcher throughout their 30's.

The odds are greatly in favor of whoever signs Snell coming to regret that contract. I'll root for him if he's here. But if he's demanding 180/6. I'm ok with the Sox passing.

I’d rather sign Clevinger for two than Snell for six…

It's nothing for us to worry about.

WHAT IT ACTUALLY SAYS IN THIS PIECE:

Leitch put Boston as the ninth most likely landing spot for Snell which sounds about right.

:D:D:D

Would you have the Sox in the Top Ten?

This calls for more mediocrity -- the wards of this club can't possibly afford the luxury of paying taxes!

Good pitching won't make them good, but just wait until they're good enough to spend on good pitching...

I wouldn't bet large sums of money on it, but I would not be suprised if Clevinger was better over the next 4 years than Snell is, or at the very least worth the cost. He will like cost 1/5 of Snell.

Clevinger would be an OK get, but the DV stuff would not go over well with a lot of people.

It would be looked on as yet another PR gaffe by our doofus front office.

The brightest of bulbs in the spinning disco ball? These are poison ivy leaguers you besmirch!

We're their suckers. They're just a bunch of comedians looking over their Red Sox Nation audience and repeating George Carlin's mantra:

"Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."

If JH wants to cut payroll so bad maybe he should start with that doofus front office. I’m sure there is some weeding out that could be done there.

One of the accusations against Clevinger was that he choked a woman. Someone is bound to notice that "throttle" can also mean "choke", leading to great hilarity...

They only have 4 assistant GM's. Is that really enough?

Maybe they need more, because 4 doesn’t seem to be enough to make things better.

He was very good from 2017 to 2020, but only started more than 21 games, once in that time period (8 out of 12 in '20.) We need a 30 start/ 175+ IP starter. THe only one we might have, Pivetta, is a 5th starter type.

This guy missed 2021 and averaged 23 GS & 123 IP, the last 2 seasons.

He'd still be our #3, due to his 4.03 ERA (103 ERA+) and 4.61 FIP (1.213 WHIP,) but I really hoped for much better.

I almost think Paxton on a 1 year deal might be just as good a bet.

I get your point, but what are these guys getting paid?

What they get paid isn't relevant. Red was just joking about it being a way for Henry to save some money instead of saving it by having a s***** baseball team.

He's not a top of the rotation guy, but Clevinger pushes Houck to the bullpen for sure. He had 10 QS last year and a 3.40 ERA if you ignore his very last start. Aside from 3 bad starts, he had a strong 2023.

Snell only pitching in the 7th inning 3 times last season. He's just really overrated IMO.

He wasn't suspended. Urias was suspended for 20 days the first time it came up with him.

Those are his boys. He would never. Raquel is the team mom. Can't let her go!

Ugh! I was on board with us getting him. I didn't know about any of this stuff, though. Grim.

Clevinger also has multiple accusers. No way it doesn't become a PR problem. We saw what happened with Dermody, and his issues were all about tweets.
