I don’t know how, but I had actually forgotten about the Arroyo, and Franchy at 1B experiment.

I blame Franchy for himself. That whole scenario was just wrong. I also blame Franchy for Dalbec. Just because…

This offseason totally sucks so far! What are we doing? Where is the starting pitching? It feels like we are bleeding players and getting farm players back if anything. What the hell is the front office doing?

Right now I’m living in a world where very few teams are making any moves. But it’s getting to be more, now with Toronto adding some gloves this week.

Hopefully Boston makes some moves sooner rather than much later…

In my world, 4 of the top 6 free agent pitchers have been signed.

Same world, but I only liked one of them for Boston anyway…

And yet they're all better than the flotsam and jetsam we have.

I had forgotten that BOTH Montgomery and Snell are clients of that POS Scott Bora$$ so don't expect them to sign anytime soon although that probably doesn't make that much difference to the Sox anyway as I doubt that have any real interest in either.

Well, to be fair the collective set is better than most rotations. If not all.

But we were never going to get more than one of them. Yesterday’s NY Post listed the Sox as participants in the Snell Hunt…

Point was mainly about Red calling Kike Cora's boy. Seems to me you could also make a case he was Bloom's boy.

And Bloom is the one who opened the door to Kike playing SS by not getting a legit fill-in.

Bloom was 3 steps ahead by signing Story to that big contract and deciding to let Bogaerts go before seeing how that move panned out! Oops! That move looks even more stupid in hindsight!

I'm far from a patient man in my old age... hard to believe I was a trout fisherman in my younger days.

But I'm convinced there will be significant new players added to the Red Sox BIG LEAGUE roster in the next month...

... before Winter Weekend. Even if the owners hide, the Sox have to make changes -- because the other employees will refuse to attend to get excoriated by fans and media... especially legendary retired players, who won't hold back their candor.

That’s how I see it.

The rest are or were 3rd or 4th tier, including Giolito.

Why, because Bogey’s deal looks better?

Assuming the Red Sox are interested in T Hernandez. That means one or two outfielders have to be on the trade market!!!!

Do we sell high on Duran ?????

I would, but that does not mean I want to hand him away.

BTV gives him a value of 34, which I feel is high, but I’d prefer to go with Rafaela and Abreu in CF than Duran.

Adding T.H and O’Neill looks OK for corner OF, but not so much if it forces Duran to FT CF. That’s not a good defensive OF.

The criticism with Bogaerts is that they didn't make a legit effort to retain him so we'll never know if they could have retained him for a price not much higher than Story's. And Bogaerts has been much more valuable than Story the last 2 seasons.

The contract Bogaerts got from the Padres was absolutely absurd.

I know the arguments, well.

We have no idea he’d have taken $160M/6 at any point during his last 2 years here. Or even $200M/8.

I wish we did extend him.

I don’t think the value per contract has made Bogey look better than Story, so I don’t agree with ghe point I responded to.

Of course, I wish we had Bogey over Story, but not at these price comps.

Bogey’s contract is the worst in MLB.

Yeah should have tried harder to extend him after ‘21.

I could care less who paid what for Xander Bogaerts.

I care more that the Red Sox totally screwed themselves and their fans by allowing another homegrown All-Star Silver Slugger to leave Boston... and replaced him with inferior ballplayers.

I wanted Bogey to stay but not at anywhere near what SDP paid him.

I do think we had a chance to extend him for less, but how much less May never be known. It’s all speculation.

While his defense seems to have levelled off at a not a really bad level, his offensive production has dropped noticeably over the last 2-3 years.

I doubt we tried hard enough, but we don’t know what Bogey would have accepted, either.

I want to think he’d have taken $200M/8, but who knows

Well said, and I blame DD more than I do Bloom for that one except for the slap in the face 1yr extension that Bloom offered.

Exactly. (Too bad other fans are more concerned with Henry's bank account than what appears on the field.)

I'm sure those fans are still p.o.'d that the RS didn't get rid of Williams, when they had that far better fielder Gene Stevens ready to step in.

I do t know a single poster who did not want Bogey back.

I’m not concerned about JHs wallet, but if you think he’d pay Bogey what SDP gave him and then sign more players to build up around Bogey, dream on.

This is crying over spilled milk but I guess it is still not obvious to all Sox fans that Henry wants this team built through the farm while picking up guys on 1 yr deals to keep the club around .500 while this process is taking place. Then once a prospect reaches the point where he needs to be paid he will be let go just like Mookie and Xander

You just will never figure out why some fans express interest in payroll. Been explained to you dozens of times. Yet never seems to sink in..

NOBODY ever said the Red Sox should have given Bogey what SD did, and if things would have been done right by DD, and or Bloom they wouldn’t have had to.

Nope. It doesn't. Because you give a different argument each time, generally involving speculations of how the team will be in the future, long after we're all dead. (or perhaps something involving abstruse dvdRWAR+ calculations).

Just, because it took weeks to name Bailey as the pitching coach, and they didn’t replace the 3B coach, and they’ve not done much of anything substantial to improve the club just looks a little slow. I’m sure the wheels are turning in baseball ops control at this very moment, and something big is imminent. Ok I’m not so sure.

I said this yesterday before anything had been done, and I kept preaching patience when so many on here were crying foul, or sham when they haven’t even been given a chance. The wheels are still turning, and the Red Sox are not done yet.

Big wheels are turning.
