Sure, but I'm getting at is that we already have a defensively challenged second baseman with a league average bat.

Well I don't want India either, Jeez...

Maybe, but their front office has to be looking for any way to improve; it's not all about money -- gotta give up something good to get a good return. Plus, they might not view Gelof as the high profile guy (drafted 20 picks after Bloom chose Jud Fabian at #40... who refused to sign, then went #67 the next year to the O's).

Ok, so trade him straight up for Cutter Coffey if drafting position means something to the fans?

Ohtani decision is "imminent".

Toronto.

Rumor is that there is a private jet flying from Anaheim to Toronto and Kikuchi has rented out an upscale sushi restaurant near the stadium this evening.

Chaim Bloom, Winter Weekend 2023: "You better be ready to surround that bet with a whole lot of talent or you’re not going to win… To back up that bet we needed young talent back in the organization, so we made the move that we made with Mookie..."

@BOSSportsGordo

The Red Sox are “very heavily involved” in the Yoshinobu Yamamoto sweepstakes, @jonmorosi said on @MLBNetwork today.

If he winds up elsewhere and the contract is under 300M, it'll be pitchfork time....

Brez hired El Guapo for security for the sit-down... mainly to keep Pablo Sandoval from anywhere near the building.

It's official, he's a Jay.

The Yanks and Jays are seriously trying to improve.

The A.L. East is certainly not getting any easier. The Sox need to keep pace. All in on Yamamoto ?

That's good for the Red Sox. It forces Henry to actually do something. If the Yanks didn't get Soto and Ohtani went to the Dodgers, there'd be less of an immediate need for the Sox to make a splash.

Not yet. The Red Sox should go to the Angels and take Trout off their hands so the Angels can offer big money to Ohtani.

The Yanks just killed us by landing Soto (who is an on base machine and with the short porch will be a 50 homer guy every year). The Red Sox need a star that we do not have, otherwise we will be in last place for a decade.

Non-Shohei Hot Stove update: Twins have received increased trade interest in infielder Jorge Polanco over the past week.

Changed my mind on the above trade.

Twins give:

Pablo Lopez

Jhoan Duran

Jorge Polanco

Red Sox give:

Jarren Duran

Tanner Houck

Josh Winckowski

Posted
Per BTV:

Polanco for Winckowski or Schreiber

I entered a tarde on BTV:

Wikelman, Walter & Mata for Polanco.

That frees up roster room for Slaten and a free agent signing.

I'd give that and more for that package.

HORRIBLE move

I'm not sure about the fit for o'Neill, but how can any trade giving up who we gave up be called "horrible?"

Posted

O'Neill is everything Verdugo was not: a two-time Gold Glove leftfielder, a guy who hit 34 home runs in his one full season ('21), and a right-handed batter.

Most importantly, on bb-ref's Similarity Scores, Tyler O'Neill's most similar batter is.... Wily Mo Pena!

Also a factor - Ty cost two borderline fringe depth pitchers instead of free agent money, the better to be saved for legitimate big-time starters...
