I forgot to put Yamamoto on the list.

I noticed, but mainly because he’s my desire. I figured you would not mind him added.

Man, I added two big name Free agent pitchers. What else do you guys want?

You want the Sox to sign all the starters in the world and trade the farm and have 5 #1s?

I get it. We suck, but being realistic and assuming some balls are grown on John Henry’s part, adding two legit starting pitchers I’d pretty damn ambitious.

It also doesn’t have to be those two guys. s***….it could be Nola and Snell for all I care.

Sonny Gray should be strongly considered.

I’m on board with Gray, Matt Chapman (Not to be confused with fellow free agent and not his brother Aroldis), and a solid bullpen arm that throws from either side. Or both sides. I’m not particular.

So maybe Aroldis Chapman? Gray, Chapman and Chapman? Not only good free agents, but also a mildly effective law firm…

I just like him so much better out of the pen.

I do, too, but I like Houck, Whitlock and Crawford more for pen duty than Pivetta.

He seems to give more inning, even if maybe not as good as others.

I like him, a lot, too.

I knew I was forgetting someone I liked.

Who isn’t better out of the bullpen?

Well, me... especially if you're sitting behind home plate.

But I get better looking with every beer (until I can't see straight anymore -- which doesn't mean I'm drunk, because I'll either get full or fall asleep first, but it's probably just a night game).

I just wonder how are they going to assemble a solid rotation for next year. We only have one arm who is nothing but a No. 2 in my book in Bello. Other than him, we have 3-inning pitchers.

If we can make Bello our #3, we'd be well off. We can then handle our 4 and 5 going 4 innings most of the time.

One thing of note, although Pivetta has not be all that consistent, he has give IP as our 5th starter.

5.1 in 2021 (second best on staff to Nate)

5.4 in 2022 (just 0.1 behind Nate and Wacha)

5.1 in 2023 (behind Bello and 0.1 below the league avg.)

that's my worry. Bloom hasn't added a single solid starter in four years, so why would he start now?

When you look at a lot of other MLB rotations, what do you really see out of the #4 #5 slot. I like all these arms in the bullpen but some combination of Crawford/Pivetta/Houck/Whitlock would be fine in that role. They really need to build the rotation at the top. Two solid signings with the names talked about in here would be absolutely transformative to this rotation.

Maybe because he will likely have $48M to spend and all the everyday slots are filled.

After his stint with the shitheads from the Bronx, you have to wonder if he can handle a big market.

with what he gave Kluber, Mondesi and what he left on the table, he could have signed a decent pitcher last year. but he didn't. he went the garbage route. again, i have ZERO faith in this clown to do anything right.

He'd be fine. His 4.10 xFIP that year wasn't that far off from his career norms at the time. I don't see him as being better than a #3 though.

Understandable.

But, Mondesi?

Chump change for a position we actually needed, but the guy stretched 1 month rehab into a year's vacation.

Oh. You're one of those.

Yah but just how much of that Bloom will be allowed to spend is the $64,000 question.

It seems like more and more, each season.

I'm thinking we are due for going over the tax line, and JH must be feeling the anger and angst, if that matters to him, at all.

I think we go over $48M (which I figure gets us to the tax line.) He may spend right up to the second line, which might be $67-68M.

yeah, whatever, it all adds up.

Yes. Every year a team loses, you can look back and choose the bums, add up the money, then choose a guy we shoulda- coulda signed and blah, blah, blah.

The fact is, Bloom signed a bunch of guys who worked out well, this year and last, but he swung and missed at the most important signing: SP.

He coulda-shoulda spent more on the rotation. For whatever reason, he did not.

The tax line is just a partial excuse. He had enough funds to get a real pitcher and chose not to.

Everybody agrees.

I doubt it would have mattered, unless you go total hindsight.

as bad as this year has been, i could get excited for next season if the Sox sign a couple of quality SPs. guys like Casas, Duran, Rafaela, Abreu and Bello give me hope.

Yep, he was picking through garbage and in the end the team stunk like garbage.
