@MacCerullo

Word from Fort Myers is Bobby Dalbec has been optioned to Triple-A and Jorge Alfaro will remain with the Sox in Worcester. Presumably that means Yu Chang and Connor Wong will both start the season with the big league club.

Alfaro staying means he is given a 40 man slot, right?

Who gets traded or DFA'd?

Or, will Mills be placed on the 60 day?

Has a decision been made on Tapia?

Why do you have Mills ahead of Bleier?

Mills career: 6.21 ERA, 4.58 xFIP

Bleier: 3.06 ERA, 3.79 xFIP

Bleier has been a solid pitcher for a long time. Wyatt is a waiver wire guy.

Longer team control, but your point is well-taken.

I like Bleier more than Mills.

No, it just means no other team has offered Alfaro an MLB spot.

That happens, today and tomorrow, right?

Then, the WSox have 72 hours to decide to keep him or let him go to a team who said they wanted him, as I understand it.

He may still end up on our 40- or not.

Alfaro had an upward mobility clause, not an opt out. On 3/25, if he wasn't put on the 40 man, other clubs could offer to put him on their rosters in 24 hours. Clearly, nobody else added him as he's now going to WOO.

This is honestly the best outcome for the Sox. Now they don't have to burn a 40-man spot to keep Alfaro as a depth option. Right?

Good to know, thanks.

That's good news for our catcher depth and 40 man roster flexibility.

Yes, I believe they only have to worry about the next upward mobility date. I think there is another one in 2 months?

Correct.

They still need to burn one for Tapia, which could simply be moving Mills to the 60 Day IL. If Sherriff is added to the 50 man, they need to burn another. That could be Chang or Ort. Or neither and Ort starts the season in the bullpen…

Tapia and Goodrum are soon.

Allen has a May 15 and June 15 clause.

Correction for my post above:

@BOSSportsGordo

Does not look like Alfaro will use his upward mobility clause now, but he does have opt outs on 6/1 and 7/1 if he’s not on the roster by then.

Nobody wants Goodrum. He can be straight released.

Tapia has an opt out if not added to 40 man by Opening Day.

Goodrum will probably be left in Worcester. He was only signed to pay shortstop there anyway…

I'd have Hamilton and Koss on the depth chart in front of him. Maybe even rotate Rafaela in once a week?

I hope Worcester management will do something similar. Goodrum is just a warm body right now…

MLBTR reported on Saturday, "Hatfield adds that Tapia can opt-out of his deal on Monday if not added to the roster." That means the 24 hour window starts today, right? (Not opening day.)

I might even call up EValdez and move Arroyo to SS before calling up Goodrum, even if he was on the 40.

Until Mayer gets called up to AAA?

The only thing he is doing is letting the opposing pitchers rack up the k's.

I don't even want Goodrum in Worcester scanning tickets.

Oooh… the ol’ False Sense of Security stategy.

They could release Goodrum. I’m fine with that. He could also ride the bench in Worcester. Whatever. He’s absolutely the least of the Sox problems right now…

Rumor is that the Sox are looking into EXTERNAL options for the final bullpen spot.

1. That’s good news because Ort isn’t external.

2. Reread point #1…

That doesn't mean they will automatically find what they are looking for. :(

Bloom, ever-cognizant of a franchise steeped in championship pedigree, is on the look-out for someone with the legacy of a Keith Foulke... for example, Johnny from Burger King.

Dalbec to Philly for LHP Michael Plassmeyer.

Philly lost Rhys Hoskins for the season and could use a RHH compliment for Darick Hall, a 27yo former 14th round pick with 142 career PA (and 44 strikeouts). Dalbec, being a former Dombrowski draft pick, is a solution he’s familiar with.

Plassmeyer is a 25yo LHP with good numbers but getting to be part of a bullpen crunch in Philly. Roster Resource doesn’t have him in their bullpen but he is on the 40 man roster, so trading him opens a spot for Dalbec…

Holy crap, even Denny's ham and eggers have complicated contracts now.
