That is true about living in New England I think you get a lot better vibe, and pulse on the Red Sox than you would in living in Fla, or TX.

No one lives in those states anymore…

Bloom needs to take a page out of the Braves system. That team will be competing for a while. Lots of long term contract and most of them really good value.

Fun fact, Matt Olson has the most HR of ANY MLB player over the last 6 years.

Which of the current Sox players deserves the long term deal the Braves players got? Bello isn't in Strider's league. Casas' bat might be in shouting distance of Olson's, but his defense is not. If he's a DH profile, why would you give him a long term deal? Duran is having a breakout season, but he's doing it at a much older age than the Braves guys were doing it at. Are we comfortable with him performing at the same level going forward? If there's regression on the 403 BABIP, his value goes down a lot. Does he profile as a 4th OFer or platoon guy?

To be fair, the only reason Richards flamed out and went to the pen is because he wasn’t allowed to cheat anymore…

He wasn't very good when cheating was allowed either.

To me this team is terrible bad coached and trained. Their fundamentals of the game specially at defense are pathetic.

It’s also terrible assembled. This team ain’t going anywhere. They should have sold included Denvers and rebuild. Thing is they rather to be mediocre. They don’t rebuild nor going anywhere this season.

Bloom, Cora, and even Henry have to go. There’s no plan for neither way.

worst defense in all of MLB. Bloom and Cora are at least #1 in something.

Posted
This is at least an 80-85 win team.

Why do people think tearing it all down and rebuilding is so easy? That’s a multiyear process that rarely works…

Not to mention even if you pull it off, it involves real pain for the fans.

The Orioles had the following records in 2018, 2019 and 2021 they had records of 47-115, 54-108 and 52-110 (25-35 in 2020).

The Astros' fans had to endure seasons of 56-106, 55-107 and 51-111 from 2011-2013.

To those who call for tearing it down, is that what you want?

They've been bad, but not even bottom 5. Easy on the hyperbole.

They're 25th in UZR, per fangraphs, and 26th aggregate defensive value. What fangraphs are you using?

You need all of this? The eye test should tell you all you need to know.

So we can't talk baseball related topics on this baseball internet forum? News to me. Also, don't care for or about your eye test, thanks.

I don’t think most fans care where the Red Sox rank on D, and can SEE for themselves it is not very good. If you need the rankings good for you.

FWIW Ian Browne says Sale, Houck and Whitlock are all expected to be back by August 15.

If true it does make the deadline inactivity a little more palatable.

Bro, we're having a decent baseball discussion here. We know they've been bad on defense, but discussing how bad is a pertinent topic of discussion here.

That's what they've said on multiple fluff pieces I've read, with varying timelines in or around the 15th.

Depends on if you believe the Sox actually want to compete or not.

No, NOT ALLOWED!

Compete covers a lot of ground.

I believe they wanted to compete in 2023, as in being in the hunt for a Wild Card spot, but obviously within a tight budget.

Not when you needed help weeks ago, and every game counts.

number 1 in fielding pct. and errors. that's pretty f***ing bad.

Fielding percentage and errors are both awful measures of defensive efficiency. But anyways, the fact that they've been bad isn't in question here.

No one said not allowed I just said I don’t need a ranking, and that my eyes have told me all I need to see without ranking anything. Just my opinion.

Why would you interject in the discussion to talk about the eye test or whatever then. Jesus Christ.

Why do you keep banging the money drum? Money is clearly not the issue here.

Are they FIGHTING for a playoff spot or "fighting" for a playoff spot.

They aren't great measures for sure. But are they better than the eye test?
