We talked about Andrus and even Jose Iglesias. I think there were others available.

The real answer is Bogaerts though. And that would have kept Story at second, where he played great last year and where his elbow would get less stress.

They just don't listen to us! :)

Neither of hose guys would have come into that situation. They needed to shore up MiLB. Y'all talk like ballplayers are robots who won't analyze the situation because of the great tradition and culture of the Red Sox.

There's no way anyone with even a sliver of a chance of making an MLB roster signs here with what was, at the time, a SS logjam. Now getting some fidder that could play D is certainly something they failed at

I think Iglesias definitely would have signed with us.

Debatable at best, but you get the point. It's still a massive org failure not having a suitable defensive MIF in the minors for cases like these.

Iglesias signed a minor league deal with the Padres of all teams. What makes you doubt he'd have signed with the Sox?

Kike's issue is throwing.

He should be playing 2B.

Reyes can play short.

Kike $10M....Reyes Min wage...

And Iglesias's defensive numbers last year were just fine. So yeah, he's an obvious miss, IMO. Bloom thought Kike would get it done.

No Bloom didn't think Kike can do it. Cora told Bloom Kike can do it. Kike is Cora's boy.

Bloom is the one who has put him on the payroll for 3 years, for reasonable amounts, but not chump change. So I think Bloom is kind of involved too...

I dont think anyone expected Kike to be this awful as a 2-3 month bridge. Chang’s injury was hurtful, too.

Thinking mondesi would be easy earlier was another factor.

It’s still Bloom’s mistake or Cora’s.

Yes, both.

But when he re-signed Kike, Story was still healthy.

I don’t mind that they have Kike a shot. And they still had Chang in case things didn’t work out. But now it seems like they just want to force things to work out with Kike. Despite clearly not feeling that way when Chang was healthy.

So I think this is partially on Bloom for not at least calling up Hamilton (or my choice in Rafaela, but really, what’s the argument against Hamilton right now?) and partially on Cora for not starting Reyes at SS…

Yes, but Story was also playing second base. And a lot of us thought that should continue. I still do.

Story was always going to be the replacement for Xander. Again, they had three guys who could play SS and Kike at the ML level.

I'm not so sure. What about Mayer at short and Story at second? Story has an elbow issue. How many shortstops have had the same operation as him and had no further issues? I'm not aware there are any, but I could be wrong.

So you're saying they didn't give Story that bag under the assumption that if Xander left he could move over to SS because 2B is an easier position to fill?

Mayer had only played Rookie ball at the time. Hopefully they were not signing MLB free agents with him in mind…

I am pleased with how the starters are lining up.

Both Pivetta and Kluber have been replaced. Whitlock and Houck are now starting.

Next guy up for me was Kutter and Cora has him starting in game 2.

I like it.

No more middle of the road starting pitching acquisition.

Go get a top of the line starter. That is your job Bloom.

If you actually think that all you have to do to get J D Martinez and his career .874 OPS out is throw him low and away sliders, you obviously don't have a clue about baseball.

yeah, i don't have a clue and you're a f***ing genius. i guess i should have posted it in green.

look, i get it, you love JD. hell, i love JD and hate that he wasn't resigned. but i also hated him swing and miss at low and away all the freakin time.

With Casas struggling and Dalbec tearing it up in AAA , doesn't it seem like an obvious move to option Tristan and promote Bobby for one more look ?

No matter how many times I watch “Casablanca”, Rick never gets the girl. I’m well past the point of wondering “will he choose Ilsa THIS time?”

And so it goes with Dalbec.

Demote Casas to accommodate Duvall. Duran has earned a chance to stay and play more than Casas..
