One amazing statline for DHern is his K/9 rate. His 85 IP sample size is small, but among all MLB with 85+ IP in the history of MLB, only 8 pitchers have a better rate:

15.3 J Hader

14.8 A Diaz

14.7 Chapman

14.5 Dev Williams

14.5 Betances

14.4 Kimbrel

14,3 Karinchak

14.1 N Anderson

14.0 DHern

Since he walks so many batters, his K% ranks only 21st (32.3%,) but still that's pretty damn good. It's the 18% BB rate (7.7 BB/9) that he can't seem to overcome.

I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving. Ours was a unique one. We had planned to go to our daughter's longtime boyfriend's house for dinner. We were set to bring the turkey, stuffing, cranberry & orange relish, pumpkin & pecan pies and ice cream, while their family was to make the ham, sweet potato casserole, spinach casserole, but the boyfriend came down with Covid (mild, so far), so we ended up doing a food exchange and ate at our own homes. It worked out well, but was a bit disappointing.

Pecan pie and sweet potato pie -- dang, those are some memories of gala feasts visiting my father down south... he had a pecan tree in his yard, and they grew Haymons, which you just can't get up North.

Sorry you couldn't connect, but bet you have plenty of yum leftovers...

Looking forward to turkey sandwiches and all the great sides.

The pie is almost gone!

COVID cut our Thanksgiving guest list by more than half! One person got COVID but he was responsible for bringing 3 others from out of state.

Thankfully, my son took a lot of leftovers, because we still have food for days. The pies we had were gigantic. I fear that i will bring on diabetes if I continue eating them.

The pandemic is supposedly over, but almost everyone I know had their holiday impacted by COVID. Will this scourge ever go away!

Probably not.

Polio is still around. Bubonic plague is still around.

Eradicating a disease is not easy…

Many diseases evolve to become less deadly, that's probably what we see and between that and Vaccines Covid likely just becomes a yearly illness we have to deal with like the flu every year.

I made the mistake of weighin myself today and I'm sure it's mostly water weight but I'm easily 10 lbs heavier today.

In my defense, I just HAD to have at least one piece of every aunt's pie and I might have had two slices of the PEE-CAN pie.

We will see what Turkeys Bloom will come up with for the 2023 season.

I'm just not seeing why so many are expecting failure with this winter's moves.

Bloom did not do too badly with a highly restricted budget.

Nobody knows how well he will do, but there is little reason to expect turkeys.

40 man is full, not sure why they’d protect someone only to DFA to make room for a guy when they could have just protected someone like Ward instead of said player.

Unless said player is better than Ward and the guy the will DFA.

(He really needs to be better than 5-6 on our 40, as we will be adding 4-6 min, IMO.

I don’t think we make a pick up, maybe, maybe there’s a pitcher they really like.

Two major differences between now and past Rule 5 Drafts:

1. There was not one, last year, so this year has more good ones on the list.

2. This is the first Rule 5 Draft since rosters were expanded to 26.

If we really think Ward was worth protecting, we must think 5-6 guys should be DFA'd to keep him. Same with said player.

Evidence to date, Hoy Park and Joely Rodriquez. Let's see what happens although Bogaerts needs to be settled before we really know what we have for needs and how much money is vailable.

Sorry. Other than to satisfy an impatient fan base, why would the Bogaerts situation need to be settled before the Sox know their needs and budget? That seems exactly the opposite of how it should be done

100% disagree. I’ve been saying for some time now that the Bogey, and Raffy situations have to be know first before you can move forward, and see how much money is spent, and how much is left to spend. Also both situations should have not only been know by now, but known long ago. Then again maybe both were with the lowballed offers, before last season started.

I think they already know their needs and budget?

The Bogaerts situation is tough, because it’s tied into the shortstop market as a whole. It could be another month or two before the dominoes fall….or it could be next week

I disagree, the Sox have an ideal what those guys will cost, within +-6-7 million AAV between the two of them. And Raffys extension can be made to kick in next year if need that AAV back to get under the cap.

That should NOT stop them from addressing the rotation and other area of needs. If they wait for the dominoes to fall in the short stop market, they could end up losing out on the pitching market.

Why on Earth would they need to do that?

And was Devers offer really a lowball offer?

The Sox could easily sign Senga, Taillon, and Conforto addressing three needs and have plenty of money left over to address short stop and Devers. You should have around 45 million to play with after that. You don’t have to worry about not having enough money for Bogey. Or Correa/Turner if you wanted an upgrade.

No sense in painting yourself into a corner when you don’t need to.
