He should have fixed it in the offseason, yes. However, he found a guy now. Why bitch about the move today? Why not say, ok let's see what happens?

I have agreed all along that the OF plan sucked. I agreed that it sucked in 2021. I agreed that the bullpen plan sucked in the offseason. Bloom can be criticized for it. However, criticizing him AFTER the trades that you've called for seems weird AF.

Weird? Making a move after giving up, and trading Vaz, So now we should be happy, and see what happens? We don’t have a choice?

The thing to me is they had clear OF and bullpen and even 1b plans before the season. However, injuries, weak depth, and some players just flat out not producing made them all weaknesses. It’s not like any of them were ignored.

And when you have weaknesses like that, your only options are internal ones until other teams are willing to trade. To me, the Sox absolutely did not exhaust all internal options, but I am not going to pretend they didn’t try them…

Excuse, excuse denying at its best. A for effort, but F for substance.

The plan included Arroyo as a platton RHB though? Yuck!

This is actually a very touchy subject for me, and it might come as a shock to some I'm a little nervous to write this but I can relate here a lot. To put it as P.G. as I possibly can I was hugged too much as a child and it completely f***ed me up in life. My parents had no ideal what was going on but a teacher I had in elementary school did things to me that should never happen to any 7-year-old boy. I've been addicted to everything in my life from alcohol, to methadone, to crack, to gambling, to overeating, to sex (every person I ever met with a sexual addiction was also sexually molested as a young child). I've gone to AA, OA, NA, and SA, and to this day I am 10.5 years sober from everything. One thing I have learned through my experiences in AA, OA, NA, and SA is that all forms of addiction are just symptoms of the same disease.....people are covering up trauma. I'm willing to bet that McGuire has had some serious childhood trauma that he's dealing with that led him to do the things he did. I had actually met a guy who was traumatized when he was 6 years old by a group of younger boys in town who used to think it was funny to take him in the woods and Master**** on top of him. They told him it was a game, he grew up to do the same things McGuire did.

No one ever deserves to be the victim of someone else B.S. If your parents beat you as a kid and you grew up to be an alcoholic I feel sorry for you and hope you get all the help you need in the world, you have my sympathy....but at the same time, it's no excuse for getting behind the wheel and killing someone. I would like to know the extent to what McGuire actually did, did he actually assault someone? or did he just play with his wanky thinking his windows were tinted and someone caught him? People also have the capacity to change too, and I've seen people with all types of addictions change themselves. Ten years ago I was pushing 290 Lbs' eating, sniffing, smoking, gambling, and f***ing myself to an early grave. Destroyed my marriage and my life and have spent the past ten years rebuilding it. I walk around at 180 now, in the BSOML and am clean from every vice that every vice and drug that ever afflicted me. So....I don't want to hear people in here say that people can't change because that's absolute ******** and I can attest to that personally.

It’s that you keep calling out Bloom for doing nothing about positions they’ve clearly been trying to fix. You can only trade when another team is willing.

Like 1b. They had a clear plan. Use Shaw and Dalbec and maybe Casas can force himself into the mix. Franchy Cordero was NOT part of the opening day platoon. He wasn’t even on the opening day 40 man roster, let slone the 26 man roster. And like Shaw or not, his resume does include being a starting 1b for multiple MLB teams. He just didn’t work out this season, unlike a couple other players who came to the organization with far less impressive careers, such as Schreiber and Refsnyder…

What kind of grade do you think Bloom would get out in Red Sox Nation today? I bet a lot worse than what he would get on here, and all his trusted supporters.

We can discuss his grade from me once you tell me which Mookie deal was the option he should have pursued. I’ve only posted the options for you three times…

If what they had was a clear plan about anything they all need to be fired. Excuse excuse denying. Spin, spin, spin.

Maybe trading Vazquez wasn't giving up? They have control over McGuire for 2023, which they didn't have for Vazquez. He's a solid defensive C. His bat is whatever. He's better than Plawecki. He's better than any in house option they had and they can still bring Vaz back in the offseason if they want.

I already answered that Sherlock.

I don’t give a dam about 2023 right now, and I guarantee NO ONE in that clubhouse does either.

The problem is that RSN includes people that sit in the cheap seats, the expensive seats, post on sites like this, call into sports radio, sit at home and watch casually or even obsessively. The grades would be all over the place. It's not what is just on here. It's not what is just on sports radio. Most Red Sox fans are waking up today not even knowing Reese McGuire is on the Sox.

Then you'd make a horrible GM and I'm glad you're not making trades.

Plawecki is also a fa too after this year I believe. He might be his replacement for next year with the hopes of either resigning Vazquez or signing Contreras.

To save money.

The end result is he was they did not like him that much, just like his previous three teams in 4 years. I do not think he will be around Boston for very long as well.

I am not a Bloom guy, but I support his moves yesterday, and today, because moves had to be made.

I also agree with you that they should've been made a month ago, when even dumb fans like me knew they needed serious help to get through a tough July schedule.

I'm sorry you went through this. I know several people close to me that went through similar things.

What McGuire did was purely to himself and nobody else saw except for the police officer. He f***ed up and it will follow him forever.

It was too little, too late and kinda underwhelming, but there's a half day to go... We'll see what it looks like tonight.

If this is all it is, I'd rank it a C+ for now.

I wish they traded all their expiring contracts, but there was no way that was ever going to happen. Henry wasn't going to allow it.

He doesn't need to be around for a long time. He's 34. He's a stop gap. He was traded for a PTBNL or cash.

FWIW, I've compartmentalized my traumas so much in childhood and early adulthood that a lot of the jokes in here don't really bother me, I actually find some of them really funny. What is life if we can't make fun of things, people and even ourselves? If he's a good guy, who has turned his life around, and he helps this team....I hope people give him a chance.

In fairness to Bloom he apparently has history with Pham when the latter was with Rays. So this may turn better than I thought earlier. The fact that it is a cash or ptbnl deal makes it more palatable.

Reese is 15th in framing and 30th in pop time.

Vazquez is 49th in framing and 15th in pop time.

Plawecki is 34th in framing and 75th in pop time.

The moves don't move the needle with me, really. Bloom didn't give up much so didn't really get much.

1. I'm excited he dumped Diekman and somehow got a defensive catcher even if it's just a backup for next season.

2. Pham at least provides a better option than what Cora had to put out there. There are still 2 months to play and they can't tank far enough to really affect draft position or anything so what's the point.

3. They've been prepared to move on from Vazquez for a long time. I think his defense is pretty overrated. He's a horrible baserunner and throws the ball around too much.

Bloom is trying to play that fine line between buying and selling, present and future.

There are not a lot of Bloom fans right now, including the team apparently, and I can understand why.

All I can say is have patience and keep the faith.

Fans don't have to care about future years, but that's not a luxury that a GM has.

It must be a directive from above because it's a very tough tight rope to walk.
