Meanwhile, Vaz is left hung out to dry last night in Houston. Finds out that he has been traded from the media surrounding him outside the dugout. Vaz looks like he is going to cry right there on the field and a Houston front office guy pulls him out of the press gaggle and down into the Houston clubhouse.

Nicely done, Bloom you puke. How is it that Vaz deserved that?

Is this Bloom's fault, or the media's fault?

Let's see what the trade actually is first... Please...

Nothing is going to change that we needed a 1st baseman for months. We get one multiples of ugly AB's and fielding plays later?????

BLOOMS obviously

So the media leaks the trade before Bloom has a chance to do anything about it and it's Bloom's fault. Ok.

There is nothing to complain about here. The Sox get a quality first baseman for apparently very little money. How can anyone not be happy ? Sometimes, folks get into such a down mood that nothing pleases them.

And, in what world do you let go of your starting catcher no matter who he is if you think there is any chance that you are still in it.

Vaz is not a great defensive catcher any longer. Oh there is the mighty framing stat which honestly I consider a nice to have, not inscribed on the tablets Moses brought down off the mountain. Vaz could not frame an 8x10 photo successfully at this point. But he has been a major part of your offense when you have had not much offense to write home about and like it or not HE IS YOUR STARTING CATCHER. He has your pitching staff's balls in his hands. But of course the FO nerds appear not to understand that.

So Bloom can make whatever additional moves he wants to make at this point. If the Sox had not thrown in the towel on the season they would not have moved Vaz unless they got back a boatload. They certainly did not get a boatload back.

If Hosmer opts out, highly likely....how much are you willing to pay to resign him. You may have a 1st basemen for the remainder of this season only......a big SO WHAT.

Earth to Bloom...the season started months ago and that is when we needed a first baseman.

Hosmer is not quality. His offense is weak for a 1B.

But now the sox staff is firmly in the grasp of reese mcguire....who, despite only being in the league for a few seasons, is said to have plenty of experience handling staffs. Rumor has it that he's worked hard on it during the off season

107 wRC+ this year. He gets on base, just doesn't hit for power.

Sox have a 75 wRC+ at 1b for the year. This is an upgrade.

Some people had asked for Christian Walker instead. He also has a 107 wRC+.

But does not know anything about this staff! Simply commenting that the Sox are out on this season no matter what else they do from here.

Whatever smoke and mirrors Bloom puts out there for us to swallow, they are out on this season. In addition I expect Bloom to send more guys packing and at a time when we actually need players for next year, never mind this year, Bloom will bring back....... mainly prospects with a sprinkling of JAGS and broken down vets to fill out the 2023 roster.

I for one am seriously considering whether Bloom has now entered the land of Cherries as a FO exec.

Anything would be an upgrade!

That said I actually like the player. But there is nothing to say we will see Hosmer in a Sox uni past this season. Hosmer will very likely opt out and that will wipe out SD's commitment to paying most of his salary for the next three years. That goes away as soon as Hosmer opts out.

Like I said, weak. You don't hit for power, you are weak at 1B. Who cares if it is an upgrade? It is a very low ceiling upgrade.

That's completely on orlando and the sox, no other way to slice it.

Yes its Blooms fault. Vaz should not have been anywhere near the field while Bloom was negotiating his trade with Houston. How many times have we seen players not come out onto the field for BP or for the start of the game when the GM is negotiating a trade for them.

And having let Vaz out onto the field some representative of the Sox FO should have been right there lurking ready to grab Vaz as soon as Bloom called to say the deal was done. Where was that guy? Nose stuck in a spread sheet? Should have been a Sox FO guy right there to help Vaz off the field and get his s*** out of the Sox clubhouse.

Nonsense, bloom knew well before the media and should never have had vaz out there knowing how close the trade was to being finalized.

Stop making excuses.

Hosmer's no trade protection kept him from being part of the package for Soto.

Thanks, Captain Obvious.

Hosmer's stats for 2022:

.272BA

40 RBI

8 HR's

.727 OPS

112 OPS+

I've seen a lot worse, so I do believe there is some quality here.

Yeah, he's been ok. The Padres just overpaid for him. If you look back at his Royals track record, it made no sense for him to get the contract he got.

That's a little bit of a roller coaster ride. Then he went to a ballpark that massively suppresses hits (ballpark factor is 30th for H and 2B). Maybe he'll be better in Fenway? Maybe he'll still be somewhat mediocre?

Bloom and the Red Sox handled the Vazquez situation poorly. There is no getting around that. That said , Vaz is a big boy. He will get over it . These guys know what they are signing up for.

And yet, he's still lightyears better than what the Sox have put on the field this year for whatever reason.
