It just seems like the plan the past 3 years has been kinda "we'll figure it out as we go."

2020:

Starting rotation includes Weber and a bullpen day.

That bullpen.

2021:

Original plan was Kiké at 2b.

Cordero getting a lot of run early in the season for some reason.

Uncertainty at 1b.

2022:

Continued uncertainty at 1b with a backup of Travis Shaw.

OF was very LHB heavy and the only idea was to platoon Arroyo out there.

Starting rotation of the walking wounded.

Another bullpen hodgepodge (Barnes was a known concern at this point, Diekman "replaced" Ottavino, no defined role for Houck/Whitlock, Taylor injury).

I will say that a lot of us wanted Jose Iglesias as a bench bat and that would have been the right call over Arroyo in retrospect.

Good summary, but I don’t think there was much uncertainty at 1B to start 2022. The plan was to start Dalbec who had a .813 career OPS, and if he struggled, Casas would be called up.

I thought Dalbec was stiff defensively and had taken a long while just to get to the majors due to his so so defense and high strikeout rate. He had a good second half last year, but still looked lost at the plate when the pitching he faced was upper caliber.

Dalbec is tantalizing because he has so much power. He's getting down to his last slivers of hope with the Red Sox.

He’s bordering on Middlebrooks-ianism…

Dalbec has a better approach than Middlebrooks ever did ... but with that many holes in your swing, approach stops mattering

Certainly, there were doubts aboutBobby Dee, but with him, Shaw and Casas in the system, I can’t blame Bloom for not adding a 1Bman before May or June.

How about trading Bloom for prospects?

He wouldn't bring back very much, maybe a single A longshot.

Complain when he doesn’t make moves. Complain when he does make moves.

Got it.

If Bloom doesn't trade Evaoldi by the deadline tomorrow, he is totally incompetent and deserves to be fired.

Hang 'em chaim is in over his head....

His good start, tonight, might put an interested GM over the hump.

That's rich coming from the poster who continually lambasts others, saying 1 game doesn't sway GM's.....

What teams would be suitors for Nathan Eovaldi's services?

Is Eovaldi too expensive for a return to Tampa Bay? Minnesota? Philadelphia?

Could Eovaldi get a second chance with the Los Angeles Dodgers, the franchise that drafted the righthander in 2008?

If we paid the full boat, I think several teams would give up a nice return.

With no money added, maybe something like what we got for Vaz or a little better.

I read somewhere, a trade of JD would get us under the tax line for '22.

Unless Pham pushes us back over…

The mariners certainly looked like they could use more pitching after that beatdown tonight......

Justify this Vazquez trade then? go ahead let me hear it

Organization has no catching, you deal your #1 guy for again, Orlando loves the 23 to 25 year old prospects in AA

Valdez has no position defensive liability

Abreu although might have value and can play RF but .250 career hitter thus far

It’s not about the prospects it’s about dealing your #1 C at cheap money

Again, if your rebuilding then rebuild!

Don’t acquire a 34 year old bear leaguer with a 2 million buyout in 23 for what, to win 72 games instead of 70?

F##king joke!

Thanks for your deep insights on how to run an MLB franchise…

Doesn't it seem like maybe the Sox aren't giving up on 2022?

I don't know how you arrived at that conclusion.

A sample of Boston sports radio this morning indicates that fans especially seasons ticket holders are bull s*** over yesterday trades.

Jason Mastrodonato

@JMastrodonato

Chaim Bloom: “We’re still hoping to make the postseason… Also want to make sure we’re doing what’s best for the organization.”

Either hang 'em chaim is a liar or it's further proof that he has no idea what he is doing.....

It was far from a conclusion, Nick.

It's the fact that Eovaldi pitched last night that makes me wonder. If they're trading him it's risky to use him.

He hadn't looked sharp since coming of the DL so they had one last shot to show otherwise before the deadline.

If they don't trade him it's just further proof that orlando is in over his head......

Vazquez is leaving at the end of the year. If they want to bring him back, they can just re-sign him.

Valdez is 23 and in AAA with an OPS of 907. He is 13 months older than Casas, not some washed up retread.

Abreu is 23 and in AA and is the lesser prospect, but fills an organizational hole at OF.

What 25 year old in AA are we talking about?

"It's not about the prospects it's about dealing your #1 C at cheap money." Yeah, that's why you can deal him at the deadline. If he wasn't a #1, nobody would want him. If he was expensive, nobody would want him. He has value because he's cheap and pretty good. You complain about Bloom NOT making changes, but then complain when he does make changes. It makes no sense.
