Does Hang’em Chaim give Rodriguez a q.o. This offseason?

It might depend how he finishes, since I thinks it’s a close call.

1 year offer: make it.

Get the comp pick, if he says no. Pay high for one year, if he says yes.

One bit of good news for the Sox

Boone called it “reconstruction” of the UCL, and Britton had another bone chip removed by Dr. Neil ElAttrache in Los Angeles.

Asked if next season was in jeopardy for Britton, Boone said, “We’ll see.”

The manager initially said he wasn’t going to speculate on a potential return next season, but added, “There’s some optimism he could be back toward the end of next year.”

It’s another blow to the Yankees and Britton, who had his $13 million option for 2022 picked up before this season thanks to a clause in his contract.

That translates to $14M in AAV. Sucks for the Yankees.

Why do you want to pay him $18M if you think he sucks?

I would move Duran before dalbec this offseason!

Bloom...Duran has chance to be great. I know, I know, he says that about everyone. That's what I've been told. I must be the idiot here.

Never have I come close to saying ERod sucks.

I’m the guy who keeps posting how the team wins so much when he pitches- all the way back to 2018.

His COVID issues were real and can have long term effects. He’s a risk at any price.

I would not give him $19M x 5, but one year is a close call, to me. As of right now, I’d do it, but would not be upset if Bloom passes on the QO.

ERod does not suck!

Can we not do better than E Rod at $19M for 1 year? Are we hoping for him to refuse and garner a comp pick?

I doubt it entirely

I agree. Why are we giving a guy that's only making $8.3M a $18M qualifying offer after the year he's having?

He deserves a $10M raise?

Would the Rays make that offer? I freakin seriously doubt it.

Again, am I the only idiot on this board?

OPS since August 1

Dalbec 1.147

Verdugo .931

Duran .624

While Verdugo hasn’t kept with with the torrid pace of Dalbec, I am a bit hesitant to lump him in with Duran under the “Struggling” label…

Did you watch him play outfield this week?

Everybody would, because right now Dalbec is a better big leaguer. But he might also fetch a better return for Bloom as part of a trade, and a deal makes sense if the Sox sign Schwarber or someone else to keep first base warm until their top power-hitting prospect is promoted.

No, there is no way a pitcher better than ERod signs a one year deal.

As of right now, I’d hope he refuses, we get the pick and sign someone better for a longer term. The problem is, I’m not high on Gausman or Syndergaard as the types of pitchers we waited years to sign to long term deals.

Maybe Scherzer or Kershaw to a deal under 3-4 years might be best, but at todays prices, maybe punting with a 1 year deal with ERod is best, then trade for another.

And you can't trade Dalbec. For the second year in a row, he is having a stretch where he looks like one of the best power hitters in the game.

Yes. Did you watch Duran play the outfield ever?

Verdugo had a rough Monday, but not every player should be assessed solely by their worst game...

I don't disagree, but we know the offense can't outbash all the issues on the mound and on defense. So who do you trade to improve the team for '22?

Surely, no one is suggesting Bloom stands pat and brings back the same starting nine with the MLB's worst Total Zone Total Fielding Runs Above Avg (a hideous NEGATIVE 65)...

We've already been through how horrible some posters think Duran has been in center for the Red Sox, just killing them, based on some metric. Meanwhile, we haven't read one single fan who has seen Verdugo in centerfield all season think he's a good fit in the middle of the outfield.

I actually like Verdugo on either corner outfield spot, and thought he was just as good in right last year as this year's Renfroe, who leads all big league outfielders in errors.

The most likely candidate is probably Bogaerts.

Sure the defense can be upgraded by dealing Dalbec, but probably not by all that much...

He's probably gone after 22 anyway. And he plays the most critical defensive position.

Duran is also possible, as he is the lesser left fielder who will make less money and therefore become better trad bait.

Ok, but just because he can't play CF doesn't mean he is struggling. I bet Sale can't play CF very well either. Is he also struggling?

Definitely. He never could hit lefties-- career avg: vs. LHP .000, vs. RHP .176.

Yes, Verdugo is better in LF. However, if we are comparing Duran vs Verdugo in CF, Verdugo can hit and Duran cannot. Verdugo came up as a CFer in the Dodgers organization. He doesn't look lost out there. He just doesn't have Duran's athleticism. However, Duran just looks very uncomfortable in CF. He gets poor reads and speed can only make up a small part of a missed first step. Verdugo has the instincts to play CF, it'll just be underwhelming. Duran has no instincts and is worse than Verdugo. If the Opening Day lineup next year had Verdugo AND Duran in it, I'd have Verdugo in CF and Duran in LF.

Verdugo is hardly the ideal CF, but if you do play CF in Fenway, another factor in Verdugo's favor is he has a cannon where most people have a left arm. Duran's throwing arm doesn't quite look like we should be comparing it to Johnny Damon, but it still doesn't compare to Verdugo's either.

His arm is worse than Verdugo. There was a reason he was a 2B in college and not a SS.
