Had the Sox not had a hot 3-4 months out of the gate and played to their talent level (ie right now) do you think they’d have been better off long term?

I think a better question is what do the Yankees look like long term. They looked not too great this year and the team STILL decided to be buyers at the deadline. Right now that looks like a good decision and is EASILY worth it if you guys add another ring to your "modest" collection. But you guys paid a pretty high price if you don't win it all this year.

Good luck.

What a disaster with Covid on top of the other issues. Some may have lingering effects. Why were only 85% of players vaccinated? These guys should know better.

I guess Kiké and Barnes were both vaccinated. The status of the others is uncertain. The only guy who is definitely not vaccinated is Josh Taylor who is out as a close contact. Per MLB rules, close contact designation only applies to nonvaccinated contact.

It's obvious a certain GM was trying to save his job at the deadline, while the other rival did not feel that urgency.

And he might have done just that.

Do you think it was good for Yankee fans earlier in the year when they struggled? Of course not. Good start got the Sox fans excited.

There's still close to 30 games to be played.

Maybe I should ask you the question. If the Yankees lose in a one game playoff, would it have been better if you guys did nothing at all at trade deadline?

How do the Yankees approach 2022 after losing in the playoffs, again?

Will be sad when this lowly Sox team sweeps the M’s.

Perhaps, but the Red Sox have not swept a three-game series in Seattle since 1993 (although the Sox took a two-game series in 1997).

The Red Sox have a losing record in Seattle over that span.

They are due for positive regression against a team that struggles every year to be 3rd place in their division.

Probably has. Though a one game WC loss to the Sox could change it.

It would be 100% worth the season skid to get a wild card, beat the Yankees and go on a tear.

Yup. That night I'm going to order a large apizza from Fantini's and have a bottle of Four Roses on the ready.

Right now, this Sox team couldn’t sweep the kitchen floor, let alone an actual non-punting MLB team…

Or could they?

The occasional optimism on this site is refreshing. I need to stop discouraging it…

Most posters are pretty positive... that the Sox are toast.

My wife started a fight last night incredulous that I kept watching that debacle of a game. I can't help it; I need to see which players still appear to care even an iota of what we do.

Sox are going to do the following things:

Play just above .500 the rest of the way and get to 90 wins.

Sweep the M's so hard that they'll want to hide in the Kingdome rubble.

Beat the Yanks in Yankee Stadium 2 in the WC.

Lose in the 1st round of the playoffs.

I see no reason to think we'll be sweeping any M's. In their park? Have we even done that at the best of times?

I’m going to have the Johnny Blue on ice with a couple Cuban cigars ready to roll.

No, so that's exactly why it will happen now. Positive regression against the M's.

I figured as much.

Lumen Field (formerly CenturyLink Field) now covers "the Kingdome rubble.":

Stanton went on a tear, Judge continued to hit, Lemahieu went on a tear, Voit went on a tear. What it did was it changed the lineup enough to make it difficult on the pitchers. When you run 4-5 straight hulking RHH in a row, a pitcher can get into a groove. When you mix in LH, RH, tall, small, etc it forces the pitcher to adjust a little and makes the lineup a wee bit more difficult.

Are you still happy about what you gave up for what you got back?

You know you have reached a low point when " Brasier and Santana are on the way" actually sounds like good news.

Nice to have something to laugh about.
