Most posters are pretty positive... that the Sox are toast.

My wife started a fight last night incredulous that I kept watching that debacle of a game. I can't help it; I need to see which players still appear to care even an iota of what we do.

I like your wife.

It’s going to be very hard for the team moving forward, not only because the BP imploded and the offense has been inconsistent, but due the recent COVID contagions.

Seriously, Whata shame man!

Chaim Bloom on ongoing COVID outbreak: ‘It’s gut-wrenching.’

Bloom on why the outbreak has occurred: ‘I wish we knew exactly why this happened and why it happened when it happened.’

Bloom on connection of vaccination rate to outbreak: ‘every person that isn’t vaccinated in this organization, it pains me. … In this specific situation, we have a lot of breakthrough infections. There’s no way to know’ if outbreak would have been different with higher vax rate

Bloom says ‘majority’ of positive infections have been breakthrough positives.

Bloom says levels of symptoms have varied. Sox optimistic that no one will have long-term symptoms.

Bloom says vaccination status ‘will have to be a conversation in the industry’ regarding player personnel decisions.

Bloom says he believes Red Sox ‘moved the needle’ in terms of vaccinations among team personnel through education earlier this year. He’s been asking himself whether the org could have done more.

The Sox hasn't reached the 85% vaccination rate but no one is indicating what % they have reached. The 85% rate would have meant 6 of the 40 man wasn't vaccinated and 4 of the active roster. For all I know they could be at 60% or lower. In the words of that old Chinese philosopher, "Sum Ting Wong".

I have suspected for a.long time that there was something amiss in the clubhouse. While we can not know for sure what it may be.but it would not surprise me that there would be some tension between the vaccinated and the unvaccinated. Judging by Blooms admission, management has no idea how to resolve it.

Hey let's not get carried away and start the blame game.

Some of the guys that tested positive are vaccinated. Let's not pretend we have all the answers.

We know that JD is not vaccinated but he hasn't tested positive.

It's still a personal choice.

Or do you want to place a gold star marker on those not vaccinated?

I've been vaccinated. It was my choice.

You're a team player.

As bad as Dalbec has been, he sure doesn't look out of place with his latest OPS. 100 pts better than Vaz?

Even after the big night at the plate for Vaz!

If Bobby Dee ends up over .780 or .790, even his biggest bashers will have to think twice.

By the way, I agree with you about our outfield for 2022. With Renfroe, Hernandez and Verdugo as starters and Duran as the up and coming low cost outfielder we have a very good start. All three of the starters are good defenders and contribute well offensively. Between injuries, rest times, paternity leaves, bereavement leaves and the need for Kike to help in the infield at times, Duran will get enough PT to stay sharp and grow as a player. He is the perfect low cost replacement who can cover any outfield position and his speed can be used when needed.

I also agree about Dalbec. Despite his poor defense, he is a valuable platoon player at worst, and possibly a 20+ HR hitter sitting on bench with Duran, a backup catcher and hopefully a backup infielder.

If Duran is slated for the bench, he should be traded for someone who isn’t…

Is there a better bench option than Duran?

I think it's a stretch he gets to 790. You never know though.

Casas.

The Sox might want to hold on to Casas. Duran really has no place. He has power, speed, no glove and too much swing and miss in his game. He strikes me as the Second Coming of Dwayne Hosey. Except that Hosey was actually a better hitter...

Hosey had an usustainable BABIP in 95. Duran is probably better.

That the word “probably” made that response does give far too much merit to my comparison…

Duran does have a better last name and cool tattoos though. You could put his face on a Teen Beat magazine.

It all comes down to what you want. Do you let a guy develop or trade him? Not everyone is ready to be a productive everyday player right away.

Nothing wrong with trading Duran, nothing wrong with him as the 4th OFer. With the way, Cora rotates guys someone could still get 400 PA's like that. And he might be a much better player if he can adjust. And of course, he could be trade bait too.

Sox could develop 1 or 2 guys at a time IF they had carrying tools. If Duran could play sufficient defense, he'd be out there everyday. Since his defense is poor AND he isn't making contact, he just can't be on the Red Sox right now. You could hide a struggling JBJ in the 9th spot because his defense made up for it. When Duran is playing, he's not providing much of anything towards a winning ballclub. All Duran has is speed. That's a bench player right now.

I might feel different about Duran if he was 22. But he’s almost 25.

I’ve never been all that impressed. His A ball success was carried heavily by his BABIP. Now his speed can certainly raise his BABIP, but in high A ball, it was .480. FOUR EIGHTY. I really need someone to invent capital numbers so I can emphasize that better. He flopped in limited AA time and his AAA numbers appear to have been inflated by a park that made Marcus Wilson look like a slugger. And Wilson was released.

If Duran’s career is a 4th outfielder, nothing wrong with that. Good on him for being one of the select few capable of making an MLB roster. But if he has any appeal with GMs who (for reasons I just don’t see) value his skill set, send him off for a useful piece and fill the 4th outfielder role another way. It’s not a role that deserves any priority…
