Yes, some people criticized people for acting like they knew better than Bloom, and let's not sugar coat it. Those who screamed for him to be called up "NOW" were indirectly saying Bloom was wrong not to call him up 3, 4, 6 or 8 weeks ago. Hell, some wanted him on the opening day roster.

 

Now, you run around patting yourself on the back and making claims that are totally false about other people's positions, including my own, and I'm supposed to "man up?"

So I was only 11 days off on the Duran promotion.

 

I said for a while he will not play CF in Boston. I’d like to critique that statement. He will not play CF in Boston long term. I think he starts there but moves to a corner rather quickly.

 

Who knows, maybe his defense makes a jump at the next level. But I would have figured he’d get at least a few starts in LF down in Worcester before bringing him up.

 

I don’t think the Sox will be shy about switching his position but I have a hard time believing they do it in his major league debut.

That's a blatant lie. Find one quote where I said don't call him up this year. (Plus, I don't think anyone else said that either. Zero while you are saying "most.")

 

I never said we should not call him up. My position has been 100% consistent- "Call him up when Bloom thinks he's ready and can play enough."

Yes, I think that's correct.

 

The calls for Duran to be promoted first started 2 months ago, and needless to say, some of them were of the 'WTF are they waiting for?' variety.

It makes sense for Duran to debut at Yankee Stadium with 's shortened left field, provided Yankees put up a right handed pitcher. I haven't seen the Yankee's choice for tonight's game. It's got to be good for Duran to be among such guys as Bogaerts and JDM who can help him with the approach to hitting ML pitching.

 

Now it's time for Bloom to find platoon help for Dalbec and to look to strengthen our pitching through trade.

I was Duran’s harshest critic, with the possible exception of Max, and even I said “at some point this year.”

 

Now I also questioned if he was overvalued based on his history, but conceded he might be good based on his stat evals. And that I would have traded him in the right deal. But at least I was against calling him up to bench him. I just don’t get that idea. Especially after hyping him as such an important missing piece.

 

Also he hasn’t answered my questions yet about whether he’ll be any good.

 

 

I’m starting to think too many people have adopted the idea that “not agreeing with me 100% is the same as disagreeing with me. Also it’s bashing.”

I realize my opinion was "easy," but I never pretended to know more than Bloom. I trusted he knew better.

 

I really like Duran. I was hoping all along Bloom thought he was ready. It wasn't like I was hoping he didnt think he was ready or personally felt he was not ready, even now.

 

I wasn't "right" or "wrong."

 

Some wanted him making the opening day roster after a nice spring.

Some wanted him called up in April, May or June.

 

How are these people right?

 

They took a firmer position than I did, for sure, but they weren't any more right than I and other were.

 

I wanted him up earlier, but there's no reason to do a dance or tear others down. I'm sure I've earned my fair share of dancing, but whatever.

I still believe the Sox are trying to stay under the CBT ceiling this year as we don't appear to have starting pitching good enough to be WS contenders/winners. We are backed up with approximately $800K leeway so it appears Bloom will need to clear some salary through trades to do even the minimum. By that I mean a reliable left handed first baseman to platoon with Dalbec and a solid relief pitcher, assuming we get Sale back an Houck can be a spot starter/long reliever.

 

The hope is that we continue to be lucky on the injury front.
