Nobody wants Chavis.

If the Sox get a LHH 1B, maybe they deal Dalbec for something and keep Chavis as the RHH platoon option. I think weak side platoon might be his ceiling...

I seriously doubt Bloom would give up on Dalbec this soon.

DFA Brice.

Send Chavis down.

I think Marwin is headed to the IL to make room on the active roster for Duran. If they demote Chavis, which is still possible, then someone else gets promoted to fill his roster spot. Cordero?

Houck man. You're 5 minutes behind.

5 minutes? I'm that far behind in a one mile race. I'm further back here...

Are Duran and Houck an infusion or a transfusion? An infusion is the process of creating a new substance, while a transfusion is the addition of one substance to another, without creating something new.

Scribes tend to use "infusion" when a team adds new players (especially young prospects) to the roster. Transfusions are often life-savers for victims of accidents or patients in the OR (like war casualties).

The Sox lost 4 of 5 going into the All-Star break.

The 4 roster slots that can be upgraded may just be from within the system:

Duran for Chavis (Santana)

Houck for Brice

Sale for Workman

Brasier for Rios/Andriese

I do think we trade for one or two players but will not give up much in return.

Is Wilson one of the trade chips?

Maybe, but we are weak on OF depth on the farm.

Jimenez will be added this winter to protect from rule 5 but is probably not going to be ML ready by 2022.

This is the most untrue thing I've ever read on this board.

I think the absolute worst thing anyone said about a Duran promotion was “probably in September”…

Not sure why, but Wilson isn’t so widely regarded. He’d get claimed if waived, but any trade involving him will either be small or include him as an ancillary piece…

Well, depends what’s coming back.

Trades aren’t always about “giving up” on someone. Not like the Sox gave up on Kopech…

Yes, getting Sale for Kopech, Moncada and others actually shows they were valued.

Potts would get claimed. He's still a decent prospect.

I could see Potts being dealt. If Bloom makes any significant moves, prospects on the 40 man with no immediate future in Boston (Potts, Groome, Rosario) are likely candidates. I might consider Mata and Ward but both are out and not likely to garner attention…

Especially Kopech, given Dombrowski’s career-long love of flame-throwing pitchers. Kopech might have been the hardest thrower he ever had in any MLB organization…

I wasn't aware of Marwin. If he's going to the IL, Chavis stays.

Why is Santana on the IL?

There were some posters who wanted him on the opening day roster or called up in early May.

If we are talking about rewarding posters for getting the closest to when his actual call up occurred, oldtimer wins the prize, but those who said September were about as close to those who said opening day or May.

Anyway, I'm glad he's up. I thought this would finally end the debate. I should have known better.

Almost better to keep him for injury insurance at this point. Unfortunately, he's no longer seen as being able to play CF adequately and his bat will need to cover the corner OF positions.

Potts would be selling really low. Better to hold onto the former 1st rounder IMO.

We can’t tell if he was sold low until we see what he gets. BTV does give him a rather low value (2.4), but he’s been struggling in AA most of the year…

My guess is Bloom had identified the most likely players not to make next year's 40 man roster, including Rule 5 eligible players likely needing to be protected.

Looking at 2022's roster:

Free Agents (may extend or re-sign one or some):

ERod

Ottavino

Marwin

Santana

Workman

Team Options

Andriese- likely bye-bye

Richards- likely bye-bye

Perez- likely keep

Vaz- keep

Opt out?

JD Martinez

Borderline keep, Traded or DFA'd?

Brice

Chavis

Arauz

Potts

Wilson

Rios

Groome

Rosario

Plawecki or Wong?

That's a lot of slots opening up or potentially opening up.

I see about 12-15 of these guys gone, so maybe we trade some of them, before we lose them for nothing- assuming the ones I'm talking about have trade value.

If we add 4-6 free agents, we might be down to 6-10 slots for Rule 5 and borderline players listed above.

Rule 5:

Jecorrah Arnold

Brayan Bello

Cole Brannen

Gary Calvo

Marco Cardoso

Pedro Castellanos

Felix Cepeda

Kole Cottam

Kutter Crawford

Ricardo Cubillan

Osvaldo De La Rosa

Tyler Dearden

Jonathan Diaz

Danny Diaz

Jeter Downs

Jarren Duran- Already added

Tyler Esplin

Durbin Feltman

Ryan Fernandez

Ryan Fitzgerald

Antoni Flores

Frank German

Rio Gomez

Devlin Granberg

Gilberto Jimenez

Jose Larez

Dominic LoBrutto

Bryan Lucas

Charlie Madden

Alan Marrero

Elih Marrero

Joan Martinez

Alexander Montero

Oddanier Mosqueda

Brendan Nail

Brett Netzer

Tanner Nishioka

Kaleb Ort

Yusniel Padron-Artiles

Aaron Perry

Antonio Police

AJ Politi

Ceddanne Rafaela

Oscar Rangel

Tyreque Reed

Jesus Rosillo

Yasel Santana

Zach Schellinger

Alex Scherff

John Schreiber

Gregori Segovia

Chase Shugart

Miguel Suero

Jake Thompson

Thaddeus Ward

Grant Williams

Josh Winckowski

Bloom will not protect all the bolded players, so maybe he trades 1 or 2 of those he feel might be drafted.

He missed a good chunk of time, too.
