It wouldn’t make any sense to me.

From an emotional standpoint, JBJ sees that his buddies Betts/Beni/Holt are all gone. May as well just switch teams. He'd have to be paid a premium to come back here.

Steamer600, which assumes 600 plate appearances for each position player, projects Danny Mendick with a 2021 WAR of 1.1:

https://www.fangraphs.com/projections.aspx?pos=2b&stats=bat&type=steamer600&team=4&lg=all&players=0

As points of reference, Steamer600 projects 2021 WAR of 2.0 for Enrique Hernandez, 1.2 for Christian Arroyo and 0.3 for Jonathan Arauz.

The big plus would be moving EHern to CF and improving 4 positions defensively.

Miami has two dirt cheap glove guys for CF, both of whom are benched behind Starling Marte in Lewis Brinson and Magneuris Sierra. Neither has ever shown much offense, but Sierra is a little younger and more likely to turn it all around. Although "more likely" is this case might still not mean all that much.

As for 2B, Mike Moutakas is reportedly available, but has a very pricey contract and really, is not much for 2B.

Danny Mendick of the White Sox was a Gold Glove finalist at 2B and is currently benched behind Nick Madrigal. Not sure what it takes to get him.

Cleveland is reportedly shopping Amed Rosario.

Detroit might be listening on Niko Goodrum, who lost his starting role when they re-signed Schoop.

The Twins were shopping Luis Arraez, as they have a bulk of middle infielders on the MLB roster. But he is probably outside the Sox price range.

Seattle might be willing to part with Jake Fraley (CF) or Dylan Moore (2B) for the right price.

Atlanta has got to be looking to move Ender Inciarte to clear playing time for Christian Pache and possbily Drew Waters.

St Louis has Lane Thomas, a CF with no place to play.

Colorado will definitely trade CF Charlie Blackmom, but he makes a ton of money and cannot hit outside of Coors.

Philly has two middling CF candidates in Adam Hasely and Roman Quinn. Doubtful they would miss either one.

I doubt the Giants have any untouchables, but it would probably cost to bring Maurico Dubon back.

Dylan Moore's stock has risen since he committed errors on three straight ninth-inning plays, each leading to a run, in a Seattle Mariner win over the Red Sox in March 2019:

SEATTLE -- Pitching and defense may be the keys to winning baseball games, but it never hurts to hit the ball over the wall, as well. The Mariners showed that again Saturday as they overcame three straight errors in the ninth inning by rookie third baseman Dylan Moore to survive

Seattle could also make available 25-year-old second baseman Shed Long, whom Steamer600 projects with a 2021 WAR of 1.1.

I'm thinking with no more moves made, these players will see the most time at these positions (2nd most):

C: Vaz (Plawecki)

1B: Dalbec (Chavis)

2B: Hernandez (Arroyo)

3B: Devers (Arroyo)

SS: Bogaerts (Arroyo)

LF: Renfroe (JD in NL parks-Cordero)

CF: Cordero (EHern-Verdugo)

RF: Verdugo (Renfroe)

DH: JD (Chavis)

Any disagreements?

IDK. I still kinda see Cordero as a LF. I know he's good really good wheels, but I heard his route running labeled as "adventurous." To me, he's better as a platoon with Renfroe and have another guy come in as the CF.

Hell, maybe they do throw Kiké in CF and have Arroyo/Chavis do a share at 2b?

I was assuming no more additions, but I actually agree with your point.

I've been saying for a while, our team looks better with EHern in CF, and I'm not sure Cordero over Beni changes that. (Neither would look very good in CF.)

It's what I'd prefer, but I posted what I think will happen- not what I want to happen.

Yes, I've think I've turned to the darkside where Kiké should be the CF. I think they can piece together 2b. It's never hard to find a AAAA guy to just throw at that position.

...and guys like Kinsler can be picked up mid season pretty easily, although Buttrey turned out better than expected.

We also have Munoz & Arauz and Downs as a possible late season arrival.

It seems now anyone would have to be paid a premium to come to Boston.

So, minus Beni and plus Sawamura, Codero & Winckowski, and that's now it for the winter?

No, not finished yet. We need an outfielder.

I will say that I really, really like the Sawamura signing.

Good news: no more 7:30 red sox start times. All evening home games will begin at 7:10.

Best news we've had all offseason!

I don't think it makes much difference, as at those times, there will be plenty of other games to watch whose players we're more familiar with.

Cordero is a Mirage always has been injury prone hope I’m wrong but if I’m Bloom I may just option him and play Marwin .

Careful with the word "always." He was hurt in 2018 and 2019.

He played 34 games in 2020- way more than Beni's 14.

Let's give him a chance. He does need to pass the physical for the trade to be completed.

who

The guy who will either supplement Dalbec at 1B or platoon with Renfroe in LF or maybe take over 2B so Kike Hernandez can move to CF where he will be flanked by Cordero and Verdugo.

Marwin is Jose Altuve's former double play partner turned super-utility player turned garbage can cheater...

I don't think he'll be very good, but he'll be better than Peraza.

I am very far from a fan of this deal. Brad Miller was a much better choice.

Also, still think the Sox need a LF or a 2B (depending on where Kike's plays). And I do not like Marwin for 2B...

Thanks - I am among the ill informed. Currently I am not familiar with many of the recent signees.

There's no reason to have been very familiar as they all have been mediocre. What these moves do is increase the floor of this team. They won't pick 4th next year. They'll probably wind up with 78-86 wins no matter how this team performs. There is an outside chance that EVERYTHING breaks right and the Sox get to about 92 wins (MVP year from Devers, return to form for JD, starting pitching holds up and performs at peak level, etc.).

@redsoxstats

Over the last three years position players that batted 7th, 8th, and 9th in MLB have combined to hit .236/.304/.385. 2018 Sox hit .231/.292/.367. Almost impossible to manufacture runs.

I'm pretty intrigued with the Sox just trying to hit jacks in that part of the order now.

Will strengthening the bottom of the order be a boon for the Sox or just lipstick on a pig?

Our roster is bad enough to keep both on the 26.

You mean CF or 2B.

We have 26 left fielders.
