I am very far from a fan of this deal. Brad Miller was a much better choice.

Also, still think the Sox need a LF or a 2B (depending on where Kike's plays). And I do not like Marwin for 2B...

It looks like Miller is signing for about what Marwin is getting.

:(

I don't like Marwin at 2B, either. He's not a CF'er, either.

It's nice to have versatile utility players, but we keep adding players that don't address our biggest need: 2B or CF (wherever EHern is not playing.)

Maybe, Bloom has a deal in the works. If we add a nice 2Bman (or CF'er), then the rest of the moves make more sense. (It also means Chavis starts in AAA- not such a bad thing.)

I think we know how 2B and CF are going to play out.

Disappointed Miller was not the choice over Marwin, and Miller was he one guy I predicted Bloom to sign with absolute certainty. Oh well.

I still think a LHH LF would be the best non-pitching addition. And while money will certainly be an object, I would love to see Corey Dickerson out there...

It seems sacrilegious to say, but Brett Gardner (829 OPS in 2019, .892 OPS vs LHP, 3.6 fWAR and always with good defensive metrics) also seems like a really good option for a LHH platoon with Renfroe.

And hopefully he will want prove something to a certain team in the Bronx...

If EHern playing a lot in CF is not in the plans, then I can see looking for a LHH LF'er, but I'm still clinging to the hope we trade for a 2Bman- maybe someone like Adam Frazier.

EHern plays CF.

Renfroe-Cordero platoon in LF.

Verdugo plays FT RF.

Gardner would be a terrible for the Red Sox because then he couldn't bat against Boston pitchers. He hits .800 every year vs. the Sox and a buck-and-a-quarter vs. everyone else.

LOL.

It's not like Sox pitching has been bad over Gardner's time with the Yanks.

Here are his career splits (.743 OPS career)

.768 at Fenway

.771 at Yankee Stadium

.741 v Boston pitching

If we don't sign a CF'er or 2Bman, I'm thinking Cordero is our CF'er.

Renfroe will play FT in LF. EHern at 2B.

With EHern able to play so many positions, especially CF very well, and now Gonzalez on board, we'll have a lot of flexibility to mix and match, partial platoon, and adjust as we go, based on how well certain players are doing.

Cordero might be guy at the center of the cog. If he does well, there may not be much shifting around or platooning. EHern will play nearly FT at 2B and Marwin can spell players all over the diamond. If Cordero does poorly, it could get complicated, but still doable. EHern plays CF and Arroyo and or Chavis play 2B.

If Arroyo or Chavis come on strong out of the gate, we could decide Cordero platoons with Renfroe in RF, and go with EHern near FT in CF.

I don't really like scenarios with Verdugo in CF and Renfroe in RF, but that is an option.

We may just go with the hottest hands out of these guys at 3 positions- 2B, CF, LF:

EHern (2B/CF) will likely get over 600 PAs, if possible

Renfroe (LF/RF) best vs LHPs

Cordero (CF/RF/LF) best vs RHPs

Gonzalez (L-R hitter) best if not needed at 2B or CF

Arroyo (2B) sucks vs LHPs and is likely our back up SS and maybe 3Bman

Chavis (1B-2B-LF?) may start in AAA

AAA

Duran (CF)

Munoz (2B, OF, SS) not on 40 man roster

Downs (2B)

Puello, Gettys, Wilson (OF)

He posted a .829 OPS in 2019. Are you saying that was carried by his .837 OPS against the Red Sox that year?

His career OPS is .743. His career OPS vs Boston is .741.

History does not support your contention...

If you watched any Red Sox-Yankee games the past five years, you saw Gardner get as many big hits vs. Boston than any other Yankee, often when he was hovering at the Mendoza Line. But I won't call him clutch, because that doesn't exist on this board.

Do you see the big hits he gets against other organizations too?

It turns out he hits the other 28 teams just as well, as the stats support.

Not to mention we as fans tend to remember one big hit over a bunch of noiseless out...

No, do you? I only watch Yankee games when they play my favorite team, the Red Sox.

Historically, he beats up on the Jays far more than he does on the Sox.

He must have really sucked vs the Sox from 2008-2012 to end up at .741 vs the Sox, career.

I only went as far back as the last two times Boston was trying to win a World Series. But it's been really fun looking up stats for a Yankee to fend off all the reminders I got for making an unsubstantiated crack on a Red Sox board about a player from our arch-rivals.

At least Spring Training begins soon to put us all out of our misery or elation (did I cover it all) from this polarizing offseason.

I was just looking at his career numbers vs the Sox and the recent years you provided and it shows a much different picture.

Gardner is still a good fielder. The fact that he was a Yankee does not bother me, unless there was some bad blood event like with Machado & Pedey.

2013 and 2016 are the only real anomalies. Half the AL had an OPS of .800 or more vs Boston in 2014 and 2015...

Don't even think it Notin.

If we sign Gardner, I may have to quit baseball. Or become a Padres' fan.

At least you’ll get Orisllo back!

Mazza DFA'd to make room for Perez.

That’s it! Bloom has gone off the deep end. This team is done. Nobody left to root for!

Too late. I thunk it. And I like the idea of taking in the fallen Stormtrooper and finding out he’s not truly evil. Did you not root for Finn in The Force Awakens???

Also the Orioles but I am not sure that counts...
