Here's an idea for a 62 game season (starting late July after 2 weeks of "summer training"):

4 Home and 4 Away vs own division (32 games).

3 Home vs 5 teams and 3 Away vs 5 teams -other 2 divisions (30 games).

Top 8 teams from each league make the playoffs. All rounds are 7 games. Make the playoffs have much more games and teams.

1st round: 16 teams- possible 56 games.

2nd round: 8 teams- possible 28 games.

ALC/NLC: 4 teams- possible 14 games.

WS: 2 teams- possible 7 games (consider 9 game series, here.)

If mid July is not quite the time to start, how about a shorter season starting in August?

3H & 3A vs own div (24 games)

3H vs 5 teams (15)

3A vs 5 teams (15)

54 game season.

Sounds like a plan.

It isn't just the warmer weather but increased UV radiation from bright direct sunlight. The Chinese reported some success using UV radiation on the virus. The jury is still out. Some virologists believe UV radiation appears to reduce the amount of time the virus can survive on surfaces exposed to direct sunlight but no one really knows for sure.

Then why did cases explode in Miami?

MLB announces that teams will pay minor leaguers a lump-sum of the scheduled spring training allowance money that they were to receive through 4/9. Conversations are ongoing regarding compensation beyond 4/9 (when the minor League season had been scheduled to start).

I have my own opinion about it, but I never "wing it" here (by that I mean I never state that something is a medical fact unless I know it is almost certainly true). My opinion is that the virus is doing well (as in proliferating) in warmer climates right now-the Philippines, Indonesia etc. I don't believe temperature is going to make a difference.

There is encouraging news about the efficacy of an old antimalarial drug, chloroquin. It seems to interfere with the ability of the virus to bind to receptors in the lungs. Studies have been done in China showing that it is effective in reducing the severity of the disease, but so far its not been studied here. I say give it a try if someone has severe disease. It is highly unlikely to hurt.

.

We know it does quite well in a 98.6 degree host...

No realli! She was Karving her initials on the moose with the sharpened end of an interspace toothbrush given her by Svenge—her brother-in-law— an Oslo dentist and star of many Norwegian movies: "The Hot Hands of an Oslo Dentist", "Fillings of Passion", "The Huge Molars of Horst Nordfink"...

You really make no sense sometimes.

It's spreading heavily in Florida, and Chinese scientists tested it up to 38 degrees on a surface and it survived for over three days. So while there's still hope, it looks unlikely the heat will affect it too much.

That's too bad.

It looks like everyone is just going to have to stay the heck home. Unfortunately, not everyone seems to be willing to do so.

Opening credits of “Monty Python’s Quest for the Holy Grail.”

As you likely have more spare time than normal (like all of us), this is suggested viewing. Not sure if Netflix is streaming it, but they are streaming “Life of Brian,” which is also suggested viewing...

I don't have Netflix. I don't watch enough tv to warrant me subscribing to it.

I do not think that either of those movies is my cup of tea anyway.

BTW: where has Jacko been? He is on the front lines in NY as an ER doc as I recall. Hopefully he is keeping out of harms way as much as possible.

There is a Covid 19 thread in the General Discussion section. Jacko has been posting there.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. I have been reading some things about some drugs that do seem very encouraging, thank goodness.

Baseball is overproduced anyway. You really only need like 4 cameras.

We wouldn't need broadcasters either. We can figure out what's going on.

Agreed. It would be cool to hear the sounds of the games in an empty stadium.

As long as we could get players mic'd up

What I am suggesting get real managers or execs from real teams competing with suped up graphics etc, and broadcasting over MLB TV or NESN etc. After all how many reruns of the mad fisherman can one endure.

i would be into this. great idea Elk.

It's fake news. Our president said the warm weather kills the virus.

Warm weather can allow us to be out of doors and away from crowds, so in a way it could help.

Wuhan quarantine began Jan 23.

Today:

@AFP

Restaurants are reopening, traffic and factories are stirring, and in one of the clearest signs yet that China is awakening from its coronavirus coma, the country's "dancing aunties" are once again gathering in parks and squares

But would not have found people in Wuhan partying on some beach smack in the middle of their crisis...they wouldn't dare and even governmentally, we can't and won't do what China did....that horse has left the barn.

My guess, if we are lucky we are more or less out of the woods (meaning phase 1 of COVID-19 is behind us) by 2nd week in June at Best. The more people keep dicking around with social distancing, the longer this phase will go. But moon has a 60+ game plan that seems to make sense and that would be fine with me if they can pull that off.

So that explains why he’s been ignoring Global Warming!! He wasn’t being foolish; he was being antiseptic!

I spent 35 bucks last night on "Out of the Park 21", which is basically a comprehensive baseball franchise simulation game. It has partially scratched my baseball itch, I'd recommend it for anyone else who is in withdrawal.

I'm familiar with it. I believe it's what they came up with after they stopped making MLB 2K. As an XBOX user I am still disappointed with that, since The Show is only available for PS4

Has there been a baseball game better than MVP04?

Was that the one with Manny on the cover or was that MVP05? I remember playing the hell out of that one. Probably my favorite sports video game ever.

Manny was 05. Basically the same game with minor changes to the pitching mechanics. 04 was Pujols.

Why yes! All-Star Baseball! My brother and I played it constantly in the late 50s. He even compiled stats on players to include cards for them beyond those in tthe set. the worse game of all? "Electric baseball." Remember that one?

All Star Baseball with the spinners?

I have never been able to get into baseball video games.

Yup. that's the one. (I can still see some of the cards: Lefty Grove with all the strikeouts; Joe Medwick (?) with all the doubles. Was it Eddie Yost with all the walks?).

I had the late 70’s/early 80’s version with Mike Schmidt and Lou Brock and Pete Rose. I used to make box scores and keep stats, too...
