Sure, that's the truth. It's just about when you need a fill-in starter, you'd like it to be a guy who can at least 'keep you in the game' with 5.1 innings and 3 runs allowed or something-not get shelled out of there in the first inning. Somebody who doesn't cost you much but has a chance of landing a decent contract the next year if they do well, like Fister.

Line Bronson Arroyo was? That's too much to ask, but it does happen.

I just want someone to avoid duplicating the awful Steve Ontiveros situation of 2000. That's the kind of thing every team should learn from and make sure it never happens again...

It's rare, but the more depth you have, the more chances you have to catch lightning in a bottle. Or at least be able to keep the teams in the game.

LOL Ontiveros has apparently been erased from my memory.

Travis keeps hitting when I see him play.

I am concerned about Mookie.

I'm not. Guys like Travis need to make an impression. Mookie knows he has a job come April....

Devers seems to be swinging the bat well, which is not a surprise.

But is still having issues defensively, from what I've heard.

His season defensively will be a work in progress.

I have zero issues about Mookie, it's not just spring training....it's the first week of March. If he's slumping 30 days into the season moving into May I'll start to wonder if he's hiding an injury but I'm not worried about Mookie performing.

A lot of great players struggle in spring training, its really not a legitimate concern, Mookie will be fine. Anyone remember when Ortiz went 2-35 or something like that to start his spring in 2014?

No concern for our starters getting going slowly. It is good to see Travis and Swihart off well as they are trying hard to make the roster. We probably will take one of Lin or Marrero so they also bear watching.

Yeah, ST really means very little for the upcoming season, form wise. How many times have we seen a player light it up in ST, only to fall back to the mean (or below) when it comes to show time? There's little to take from ST, especially this early. That said, it's still comforting to see Swilahrt doing well, even if I don't give it much respect, overall. Really like the kid and want him to stay here and play.

Beni looks big. The guy has really packed on some muscle.

There's no way Lin makes the 25 man roster. He's got options, while many others don't.

It would be nice for him to get a hit, just to get that monkey off his back. The longer he goes without a hit, the more he'll start thinking about.

But he'll be fine.

Mookie is obviously finished.....toast.

It's a damn good thing we didn't extend him for 10 yr, $30M. Hell he can't even hit off back of line pitchers.

I saw where he said he had gained from 175 to 185. On his frame that is a lot of extra power potential. Maybe 25 to 30 HR's this year.

I can't see any of these ST games. Is Mookie actually looking bad at the plate, striking out a lot, swinging at bad pitches... or is he hitting liners at people. It's hard to imagine him going this long without even a bloop hit over third base. Is there any talk about the problem? Has he seen an eye specialist?

Will he leave ST hitting .050 or .250? What's the line on that??

My line of thought is, I don't care about ST'ing at all.

If he's hitting .050 in May, then I'll worry.

Players are notoriously superstitious, and some of these superstitious players don't like using up too many hits before the regular season.
