Thanks for the link. It's too bad those who judge you harshly don't seem to remember your posts like this one.

Harmony is okay in my book.

And so is Dave Cameron.

I'm trying to write a novel myself...been at it 4 years actually.

The end product is what counts my friend not the time it takes to create it.

If they make it into a movie, I would like to be played by George Cloonie.

Well i have talked to you and you do have the voice. What about the rest of you?

It's going to be finished, within the next 12-18 months, unless I die or lose my faculties.

I will just say this that I probably resemble George Clooney as closely as Billy Beane resembles Brad Pitt. LOL!!

FanGraphs columnist Dave Cameron discusses Rafael Devers and Fenway Park:

http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/we-need-to-talk-about-rafael-devers/

Great stuff especially:

He could be a monster of a hitter. He might become a monster of a hitter regardless of his home park. There aren’t many 20 year olds who hit high-level pitching the way Devers has. The bat looks pretty special even without taking park effects into account.

But when you put him in the best park in baseball for fly balls to left field, and then see him regularly pound the ball to left field in his first week in the big leagues, it’s impossible to not get a bit excited. Rafael Devers and Fenway Park might just be a perfect match.

I have such a man-crush on Devers. I might even like him better than Scarlett Johansson.

That's because she is a HORRIBLE hitter...

Good for you. I give you and all the other writers all the praise in the world. I hate writing. I absolutely hated writing papers in English class, and I still hate writing recommendations, reports, etc. Hate it! Dread it! LOL

What kind of book is it?

It's sort of a 'literary' book - it's semi-autobiographical and it's based around some actual events in my life, but there's a lot of made-up stuff too. It's set in the year 2003 and the Red Sox are in there.

It's intended to be sort of 'deep' with psychological and philosophical stuff about life, but it's also meant to be humorous.

Some parts I remember and the rest I made up"

It sounds interesting Bell. I hope you'll let us know when it gets published. :)

Sure seems silly now about giving him a shot. That's all I asked. I had NO IDEA HE'D SUCCEED. All I wanted was for him to get a look. He may still fail but at least we've giving him a look.

Every player is different.

There's old say in golf that his game can travel. Meaning that the swing is good enough to play on any course.

Well, Devers has a swing that travels, meaning he can hit just about anybody. A, AA, AAA, Majors. Ball must at some point cross home plate and Devers knows what to do with it. He was born to hit.

Posted

The team handled it correctly. Rushing him any sooner was risky. they pushed him pretty hard as it is.

Once they were satisfied that he'd learned what he could from AA, he is perfectly eligible according to the way the team operates, to try his luck in the big leagues. And so he did, and so far it's working.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves though. As great as he looks it's been less than a month. Will Middlebrooks looked pretty flashy at this point in his career too. Things look promising but nothing us guaranteed.

I'll relax a lot more when teams have seen Devers a few different times and he's still hitting their best pitching.,

He hit one of the toughest Left Handed Pitchers in the game, who has not given up a HR to Left Handed hitter since 2011, not a bad start, against facing the best. He's no Middlebrooks.

He has that 'natural' look swing.....

He has a level swing, he doesn't bail, he hits where it's pitched....

Neal Cotts, a 37-year-old lefthander with a 4.04 ERA at Triple A this year, is no James Paxton.

This year in his larger sample size at Double A Portland, Devers posted an OPS of .993 against righthanders and .793 against lefthanders (and then 1.075 and .958 in the smaller sample at Triple A Pawtucket).

Better. Need to see them play, cant go by numbers all the time.

Hopefully no more sitting on the bench, especially against a mediocre lefty like Montgomery.

Yep, I'll take Devers over Holt any day of week. JF's loyalty to Holt is just too weird.

Play your f***ing best players. The kid is twenty years old. How tired can he get?

I think it is less being tired than trying to limit situations to mess with his head. Avoiding lefties is a fair example. But then, as is always the case here - the players will make these decisions ultimately. Certainly Devers helped move that ball along.

We simply don't know that yet. He ran into one against one of the best RP's in the business. That's not even a good sign, not yet. Anyone who throws that hard will get one ran into from time to time. I like that he did that, don't get me wrong, but in terms of moving the hit/bust needle, it's a baby step in the right direction.

Plus, how can anybody be tired after all the days off we've had recently?

THU July 27th

WED Aug 2nd

MON Aug 7th

THU Aug 10th

(4 days off in 15 days)

It was clearly JF's love affair with Holt and his sub .600 OPS & lack of ability to play any position very well defensively.

How about starting to show some loyalty to the guys who are actually saving your freakin' job!!!!!!

Tired? He's 20 years old! He could play back-to-back doubleheaders and not get tired. This young man is thest non-ballhooed rookie I've ever seen.

I think this qualifies as ballyhoo ...

THIS!!^^

TIRED??

More anecdotal evidence: When I was five years older than Beni I was playing 5 games a week with a doubleheader on weekends PLUS working full time to support a family. And I'll bet he's in a lot better shape than I was.

Sorry, but I have no sympathy for "tired".
