Plus, how can anybody be tired after all the days off we've had recently?

THU July 27th

WED Aug 2nd

MON Aug 7th

THU Aug 10th

(4 days off in 15 days)

It was clearly JF's love affair with Holt and his sub .600 OPS & lack of ability to play any position very well defensively.

How about starting to show some loyalty to the guys who are actually saving your freakin' job!!!!!!

I think it's a manager trying to keep pressure off of a kid ... and limit expectations that a 20 year old is supposed to save our season. It is important to get Holt some reps too along the way - there are going to be playoff roster decisions to have (since by and large there is probably going to be an extra roster spot)

Now, that's a fair argument, but I still disagree. Devers seems unaffected by pressure.

It's like he's in a happy bubble.

He's too young to know any better.

That could very well be the truth.

What a tremendous hit for the kid right after HRam looked totally embarrassed by Chapman. Did you see the look on HRam's face after he K'd? I thought it was verging on aiding and abetting the enemy.

It sure didn't affect Devers!

I did not notice the look on Hanley's face. I'll have to go back and look at it. But yeah, that was a weak at bat by Hanley.

I'm thrilled with what we've seen from Devers so far.

holt had a pretty big base running play in last nights game. moving up on that 58 foot breaking ball was Yuuuuge.

team is 13-8 in games holt has started.

the called strike on the first pitch was high. it put him at a yuuuuge disadvantage. he swung at the next 2 pitches because of it. both which were also high out of the zone. that was why he gave the look. chapman got away with that pitch and they both knew it.

I got the sense from watching HRam's body language and facial expressions, he was sending a message like, "You are a God, Chapman. There's no possible way anybody in the world can hit you!"

I actually thought about how his behavior might make poor Devers feel coming up to face the HRam- anointed God.

Nope, the kid in his "happy bubble" swung wildly once, then he calmly cranked a long HR off a 103 mph fastball.

This kid is really making a big difference. He single-handedly (Okay, he had help from Sale) turned the joyful Yankee dugout into a funeral procession, and all he did was tie the game!

I read it differently, but you could be right.

I don't get the hate for Holt. He's a bench player that provides a lot of versatility.

OK, I just watched that at bat again.

@ slasher - The first pitch called a strike was a borderline high strike, but IMO (and according to K zone) it was a strike. It was certainly close enough for the call to go either way. The 2nd pitch was almost in the exact same location, maybe a 1/2 inch higher, but again, close enough to be called a strike if Hanley hadn't swung. The third pitch was probably another 1/2 inch to inch higher, not a strike, but too close to take.

@ Moon - After the 1st pitch, Hanley said something to Romine. After the strike out, Hanley mouthed something in Chapman's direction. I do not get the impression that Hanley had a defeatist attitude, but that he was tipping his cap to Chapman for beating him in that at bat, which sometimes you just have to do. But to me, the look also said, "I'll get you next time." And yes, I can infer all that from watching on a tv screen.

Devers put his stamp on the Sox - Spankee rivalry. I think the kid has proven he belongs. As long as he can make adjustments when the pitchers do so with him, he will be fine.

Just watched the Devers HR again (since it was right after the Hanley at bat).

That was a thing of beauty, in every way imaginable.

It was gorgeous, but rookies have put on a good 3 weeks before. Being excited is fine, but don't sell out. Not yet.

Absolutely. It's hard not to get pumped up about him, but we do need to temper our expectations. I posted elsewhere that the reaction Devers is getting is the exact same reaction that Beni received when he first came up and at the beginning of the year. A couple short months later, people were talking about trading or platooning him.

Devers will be fine, as will Beni, but both will go through learning curves. Be excited, but be realistic, and have patience when the slumps come.

It's weird how 3 people get 3 very different take-aways from that one plate appearance. No way am I saying mine is right, but I just didn't like the vibe HRam was sending to the rookie coming up.

Two dingers from Devers tonight and one from Beni. Hard not to get a warm feeling when these kids are putting on a great show. The problem is that it has been a lot of them and Nunez and not so much of the others. We need Pedey back for Holt and Betts and Bogaerts have to contribute more. They should be able to but aren't. Betts is having problems with pitches low and away while Bogey just has too much motion of his bat prior to swinging, in my opinion. Getting Pedey back and Betts and Bogaerts putting up some numbers makes this team very hard to beat, when anyone other than Fister pitches.

We keep waiting for Betts and Bogey to catch fire. It's been a long wait.

I know JF will never do it, but maybe we need to open with...

1) Nunez

2) Beni

3) Devers

Very frustrating waiting for betts to explode. Nunez is bound to run out of gas, so we really need him.

Not sure we see anything out of bogey this year due to the injury.

I keep hearing he's working his butt off with Butterfield defensively at 3rd base, that's what is impressing me.

His D was what was holding him back, and he's made a few errors already, but the kid has some range.

So what is the feeling on Pedroia's knee? Is this irritation post surgery or more serious?

i think it goes back to the Machado takeout. pedey might want to rethink how he handled that one by throwing his teammates under the bus....

It's more important to be buddies with everyone else in MLB than to be healthy enough to play on the field.

And the "realistic" expectation was that Devers shouldn't be in Boston in 2017. People doubting Devers were wrong then and they're wrong now.

Tge first time I saw Devers swing a bat, I thought, "My God, Jimmie Foxx is back" except he's batting left handed! This AM I'm reading the hot "news" and I am thinking the same thing. So, I looked them up on MLB. Result:

Foxx----6' 195

Devers--6' 195

NY what a coincidence!

I kep thinking, 'he's 20!'. He is seeing shots come off the bats at a speed he's never experienced in his life! From what I have seen, he;ll be OK no matter where they plaay him. Jimmie Foxx was also 6' 195, and did OK. No. No range, but caught everything he could reach. If hr hits .350 every year, with 40 home runs, they won;t care if his fielding a compareable to Tdde"s!

i love hearing this. especially from someone that actually saw the XX play live and in person.

Thank you. Maybe some NESN guy could bring out some film. Koxx in 1937 (left isde picture) and Devers90 years later hittin in the right handing slot. I guess synchronizing might be a problem, but they could slow it down! I'll keep waitin; if they ever do something like that I'd probably miss it anyway!

It's all about perception. Who knows what he was actually thinking?
