I am of the opinion that this tear did not happen while shagging balls in BP the other night. I suspect that the injury was gradual and as such may have been present when he was brought on.

I am not an expert, however. I have just suffered through meniscus pain for years and then had surgery. Rehab for me took over 4 months. But my meniscus looked like an inverted bottle cap when scope photos were taken. Mine was worse, I guess.

Still, 3 weeks sound very optimistic to me. 6 weeks? I don't know about that either.

This sucks.

Doc, what can you add?

Craig Kimbrel To Have Knee Surgery, Miss 3-6 Weeks

By Charlie Wilmoth | July 9, 2016 at 12:34pm CDT

Red Sox closer Craig Kimbrel needs surgery to repair cartilage in his left knee and will be out three to six weeks, Evan Drellich of the Boston Herald tweets. Kimbrel had an MRI after experience knee soreness yesterday.

The 28-year-old Kimbrel, acquired at the start of the season in a big trade with the Padres, has a modest 3.55 ERA in his first year with Boston, but with his usual dominant peripherals — he has a ridiculous 13.6 K/9 to go with 4.1 BB/9 over 33 innings. He’s also recorded 17 saves this season.

I think Bill Mueller had a meniscus procedure when we had him and missed only 4 weeks.

I assume, if the rehab is so short, they must be taking the option often said to be chosen by athletes for small tears: just snipping off the torn section, rather than trying to surgically repair it. Theoretically, you end up paying for it later. (Of course we have no information on any of this, but then, that's in keeping with most of the discussions here, no?)

The acquisition of Ziegler is going to be very important. DD got it done before the injury to Kimbrel had been announced. That might have driven up the price.

Torn meniscus is not a sever injury, it's nerve racking anytime you think about having a knee injury and needing surgery. If this was an torn tendon that would be a completely different story but we should get him back and he should be able to get a good month under his belt before seasons end.

Depends on the degree. You'll get more of an update after the surgery. Small tears are easily fixed and you can actually walk out of the operating room. The small tears can typically have a return to sports in 4 weeks assuming no residual pain

If the sawx only had those prospects they traded for kimbrel they might be able to land a solid starter.........

As you love to say, if your aunt had balls she'd be your uncle.

Terrible week for my fantasy team, had to drop both Harvey and Kimbrel and Carpenter went on the DL. Unreal Edited by Divinity

Kimbrel will be back sometime in August, its a minor surgery. He should be walking by weeks end, then rehab. Hes in the prime of his youngers years and should recover quickly from this.

I think Zig, Barnes, and Koji can hold it down for a little bit.

Good thing DD was proactive and got a solid BP arm before this happened.

The timing of that worked out splendidly for the Sox.

I imagine the price would have been much steeper had Kimbrel's and Taz's injuries occurred before the trade.

Are you claiming merloni never said those things?

No, I'm sure the quotes were accurate. They were also pretty harmless. The headline of the article was total ********, because it's Bleacher Report.

Yeah but they usually have something to do with the content that follows.

yeah, I agree here. 3 weeks recovery and 1 week rehab in minors...I think Aug 20th or so is what we most likely are looking at
