he is fun to watch and expect him to have LF on lockdown for the next handful of years. i honestly thought that knee injury was it for him. so glad the kid is young enough that he is still made out of rubber.....

Beni looks like he could be a solid leadoff hitter. I really dont see a prolonged slump from him. The bat is too good. Too much plate coverage. I see a 300BA with a High obp. 380-400ish. I also can see 20+ dingers and 20sb. Seems like a logical choice to leadoff.

Expecting a .390 OBP from the kid in his rookie season is a bit much IMO. After Ortiz, the highest OBP on this year's team is Pedroia at .378, and that's 12 points above his career number.

I was talking when all is said and done. He will have adjustments first of course, but like Mookie, i think his hit tool is plenty good enough to be a leadoff guy...which was my main point

And yes, i think Beni can be around a 380 obp.

His OBP in AA was .357. Good, but not spectacular.

I'll tell ya this... if this kid has a .380 OBP as a leadoff hitter with what he's got behind him the Sox will lead the league in runs scored again in 2017, even without David Ortiz.

If he keeps his glorious hair, he'll get to .380 easily. If he cuts it off ala Brock, he has no chance.

Would that be Sampson Benintendi we're talking about?

I've been thinking the same thing lately.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I'm surprised this post came the day after the game he had last night. I'm not talking about 0-4, that happens, but 8 total pitches seen in the game. He came up multiple times when the pitcher was wild and the sox had a scoring opportunity and swung at the first pitch.

Agree. Completely. Frustrating. He had chances to break the game open, possibly even with a walk, and.. he swings at the first pitch? TWICE?? He gets a pass from me because of his age and inexperience - this time.

And the first one wasn't even a good pitch to swing at. Had it been a BP, get me over fastball down the middle, fine, but the first one was nowhere near that.

The second one was a much better pitch to hit, he just didn't do it.

It is still very early to be declaring Benintendi the next best thing. He looks like he should be very good for us going forward but he still has some developing to do. He looks right now to be a very good possibility for us in left field for some time. Looks to me like a possible top of the order kind of guy.

Yes, he has the look of a hitter who can make contact and put the ball in play with a low strikeout rate and good speed to get on base. We will have to watch him grow a bit but it appears he will have a positive impact on the Sox lineup. I would certainly consider him for a place near the top of the order next year if he can continue to hit for a good average. Next year with Ortiz gone people like Pedey, Bogey and Betts may find different hitting slots. I think Betts will wind up hitting third as his best slot next year. A lot will depend on what we do about 1st, 3rd and DH.

Hes been playing sporadically since coming back. Hard to get the full timing back when hes playing a couple times a week, so Im not too concerned about that performance.. From what Ive seen overall, and what i believe he can be when all is said and done is around 380. I agree its optimistic and the number is always give or take a few points, So yeah, thats my opinion.

Beni got in as a pinch hitter for one at bat in the ninth. He put up a good at bat against a guy with good heat and battled him until finally putting a ball in play down in the corner which was unfortunately caught. Still impressed with this kid at the plate.

Regardless of how well he performs in the playoffs, here's a kid who is living the dream. He's barely 22 years old, less than a year and a half ago he was drafted, and later this week he's probably going to be playing in the ALDS.

How can you not feel good for this kid?

And still letting his mom make him get haircuts. :(

I happen to catch his 2nd Pro game a little bit over a year ago when he was playing on Lowell. My dad & I were watching Sox on tv together this past week and he mentioned Beni looked like a teenager. Told my dad he wasn't that far wrong. Lol

I was not happy to see that...but Mom asked him to from what i hear...

Hey, you have to respect a guy who does what his mom asks him to do.

Andrew Benintendi, Michael Conforto and Kyle Schwarber each made the jump to the majors the season after being drafted out of college. Compare their first-year MLB lines:

AB 2016 118 PA, .295/.359/.476/.835, OPS+ 117

MC 2015, 194 PA, .270/.335/.506/.841, OPS+ 130

KS 2015 273 PA, .246/.355/.487/.842, OPS+ 130

Will Beni play any winter ball? He might benefit from getting another 100 AB's in competition during the offseason.
