Hopefully the LT is up past 200m by that time. Unfortunately two of the Bs are represented by Boras. Not that we cant deal with that, but the fact he really likes his guys to get to FA. My hope is that at least one of them signes early for that security. I really think Betts and Bogey are ahead of JBJ on the priority list for the team, although Im sure theyd love to lock them all up for the next 10 years...first thing is to clear some wasted payroll.

Some tough decisions to be made in the next couple years.

If you look at Bogaerts situation - ARB years 2017, 2018, 2019 then into the blue yonder ... a Free Agent entering his Age 27 season. So let's price his 2020 and 2021 seasons at 35M and 38M, which for a guy his age with the revenue jumps you'd project seems like a pretty reasonable guess. So now the arb years ... since almost nobody actually goes to arbitration anymore, the comps analysis for arbs are pretty useless. That said, clearly the Red Sox have leverage here. So let's plug in $10M, $12M, $16M ... if you use a 7% discount rate, this comes to an AAV of $17.4M ($86.7M/5 years). So, a long term deal should be able to give more money up front, while maintaining the AAV (so you pay a fair price to buy a couple years of FA).

So something like 5 years at $21.1M per year would get you an equivalent total value ... and be a fair price for the extension. For the Sox, it buys two years of his free agency - for Bogaerts it gets him $20M more up front and still gets him into the FA pool before his 29th birthday.

I'm just the big moron here......

Betts is a must get. Give him what he wants. I want Bradley more than Xander but losing Bradley maybe an easier fill. IF, and that'a a big if, then Benintendi can move over to CF.

C Sandy 1B Hanley 2B Pedy SS Xander 3B Moncada LF Benintendi CF Bradley RF Betts DH Encarnacion......Young (1 yr), Swihart, Vasquez, Shaw and Holt on the bench

How about that line up *******s....

So, you'd re-sign everyone? Where would John Henry come up with all that money??? Unbelievable...

Honestly, except for DH, your lineup is realistic to me. I don't see why this ownership couldn't keep all these guys around if they wanted to.

I expect some asset consolidation in the offseason.

Shaw is good enough to start at a corner for SOMEBODY. Bradley is under team control for three more seasons - and given what he is that makes him a very valuable guy as a trade piece. The Red Sox have a lot of options there ...

* Move Benintendi to CF

* Move Betts to CF

I'm not concerned about it now. We don't lose that year of control now regardless of what happens to him.

I was concerned about it at the time and I still believe that bringing up a player for a one month trial and risking losing a year of control is a legitimate concern. As I said at the time, bring him up but don't send him back. And now it doesn't matter because he can't be sent back down for the requisite 20 days.

It is a legitimate concern, and the fact that Beni is playing so well does not negate that concern.

I was against the idea, but I am now thrilled that the FO did it.

I would like to add that it's refreshing to see how unassuming and level headed Benintendi appears to be.

As opposed to whom? Which young guy is not unassuming or level headed? Betts? Bradley? Xander?

1. Not my money - if Benintendi is good, and Henry cries poor, then it's the org not having the same priorities fans do - and it's good to know that

2. Service time is by days in the bigs - you can stop the clock by sending him back and bringing him back in September

None of them. Didn't mean to imply that. I was thinking more of some young guys on other teams.

Our young guys are all awesome!!!

One option is to trade a big star before we let him walk. Make a choice who you want to keep, and then hope you guessed right.

I think it's hilarious how people are jumping off the Xander bandwagon as soon as he struggled for a stretch.
That is because he is a choker.;)

Seriously though, he got pretty messed up there for a while. This year he dropped the hitch in his swing and started driving the ball to all fields. When he hit his slump, he started to revert somewhat to that hitch swing where he tries to flip the ball to RF. He was really caught in between the 2 approaches for a while, but now I think his swing and approach is settled back in to where he was before the slump.

I'm so sad that we will be losing all these guys in a few years. We won't be able to sign them all. :( :( :(
We will just have to enjoy what we have for the next 3 or 4 years, provided DD can get us some bullpen guys.

So now I have to fret about DUMBrowski's inability to staff a decent bullpen and the impending free agency of all my favorite players???????

:(

Thanks a lot.

But it is the only fun we have.

This had nothing to do with money or service time and everything to do with option years. If the Sox had brought Beni up and then sent him back down for a certain number of days (IIRC it's 20 days) it would have used up one of his option years. There are now so few days left in the minor league schedules that he could not be there for 20 days - the minor league season would end before the 20 days are up.

Option years don't seem like much of an issue for him right now but frequently a better player will be sent down because he has options while a lesser player without options stays with the club. There's a lot of shuffling that goes on there and I didn't want to see the FO give up that flexibility by calling him up and then sending him down for 20+ days and giving up an option year in case it didn't work out for him.

My concern was that Beni had never seen AAA and there was a chance he couldn't handle the bigs. I'm glad they were right.

The hope is that by the time the youngsters we have now are ready for FA, there is a new wave of youngsters ready to step in for the ones that we can't retain.

i worry less about that - after all, the Sox developmental targets stand outside of the box score in that sort of sense. Crackerjack guys tend to announce themselves right away. This is not like burning a major league contract on a draftee.

Is there anyone other than me who thinks there's a REAL chance that Benintendi gets carried over that wall were it not for the table there that allowed him to regain his balance?

Every time I see the play I see Beni's center of gravity beyond the wall and I see him pushing himself off the table to get himself back onto the field.

Right on the 15day DL and im guessing it will be the 60 real soon. Didnt look good. Hopefully im wrong and the second MRI shows nothing major...this completely sucks.

he is done for the year and IMO will never be the same player he was (or was going to be). his game/success is completely built around his lower half. this really bums me out. freaking pedroia needs to put that ball in the air not rollover a groundball. he just cost this kid about $200MM........

It's not Pedey's fault Beni forgot what they teach in Little League.

What's he running to third for on a ball hit right to the SS- right in his easy field of vision!

i know. i just dont want to blame the kid. it was a terrible decision on his part. but if pedey puts air under the ball, HoF doesnt have to make the wrong decision!!!

Oh come on debbie downer, lots of athletes get sidetracked by knee injuries and come back the next year and are perfectly fine. It happened to Tek in 2006, and the next year he was back at an All Star level, and Tek was a lot older than Beni at the time..
