Hilariously, this is exactly what Mets fans were saying about Michael Conforto last year. Rushing kids ends up being very damaging in a lot of cases. But all of the Talksox talent evaluators know better, so I'll trust your judgement.

Like I said, all the coaches, scouts, and red sox talent evaluators that ive read said he was ready...of course we here on a chat board dont know everything. I never claim to. My opinions are based on what ive read, have seen for myself, and/or seen on video. Everything pointed to a quick rise through the system. Seems the Sox staff, as well as outside baseball people who made these claims when he was drafted were right. Im sure he would be in AAA if the injury bug and underperformance didnt hit, but that doesnt mean he isnt ready for the challenge

Maybe he will stumble a little, but who cares. Most prospects do at one time or another. Its how they work through and handle it. By all accounts this kids is ready to be challenged at the MLB level.

It's hard to win. NOBODY saw Leon coming. EVERYBODY said, "send Betts dpwn", The Sox hustled Teddy's ass to Minnesota for a year, and we yelled all year long. Somehow we found ways to get the minor league results, and every time Teddy hit one out all you'd hear was, "bring him up!?" Finally Cronin said itr was his dispostion and cockiness that was keeping him in the sticks. Betts is now a candidate for MVP and Leon looks like Yogi. Right now it looks like they left the new kid down there tOO long, and the before you know, (but before the yelling stops), he'll go 1 for 18, and they'll be screaming from both sides. His physical stature and athleticism is very reminiscent of Yaz.

really? I know I'm missing something here. I hope that he has a great career for us for sure. what am I missing?

Yaz played at around 170. They used to list him as 6' 180, but he was more like 5'11' 175. It was only when he was 28 did his physique mature after working with a physical trainer in the off season.

Here's a theoretical question based on some speculative aspects that for arguments sake we will take as "givens":

Let's assume player A and player B end up being exactly the same player for the remainder of their careers and retire at the exact same age.

(Note: I know there are plenty of what ifs, but humor me and stick to just the scenario listed.)

Player A is called up in August after spending just about a year in the minors and jumps from AA to MLB. He struggles for 4 of his first 5 months, but then hits his stride in July 2017 and never looks back.

Player B is called up in August after spending about two years in the minors and is promoted from AAA after spending close a year there. He struggles for just 1 out of his first two months, but hits his stride in April of 2018 and never looks back.

Which do you choose?

Does it matter if your team is in a playoff race in 2017 and hopes to be in 2018 as well?

Please hold the what ifs and permutations to a minimum and try to answer the scenario given.

(This in no way is a projection on what Beni will do or might have done under different circumstances.)

Which do you choose if your team is not in a playoff race in 2017 but

If you don't mind losing a year of service time, and Scott Boras is the agent, Something are old GM Theo always watched out for. He did it to Kris Bryant. The sox I think did it with Bradley. I would pick A. If you want to wait it out and worry about the clock it's B.. All depends on high you rank your prospect.

Same exact level prospect.

That's a tough question. I'm being put on the spot. I'd say A. Even though I know he's making most of his outs on the team's dime and not in triple AAA. It's a trick question lol. They sound the same, but it's not. I go with A. jmo

It's not an easy question, but I agree. Player A gets "in stride" 3 months earlier. The trade off is he struggles for 3 more months (in the previous year).

The 3 extra "struggle" months could prevent a playoff run the 1st year and maybe even the second year, so of course other information is needed to make the actual call, but I thought this question addresses some of the thoughts in the decision making.

he just squares up everything he hits. Jumping from single A, to a stint in AA and the major is almost unheard of in a span of 3 months.

He has been amazing.

When you think about him having just a .701 OPS at Arkansas in 2014. That was less than 3 years ago!

Then this....

2015

ARK 1.205 OPS in 288 PAs

..A- .948 OPS in 153 PAs

...A 1.011 OPS in 86 PAs

2016

..A+ .976 OPS in 155 PAs

..AA .872 OPS in 263 PA

What a two year climb to the top!

College .376 20 57 (.488/.717/.1.205) 65 games

Minors .312 20 107 (.392/.540/.932) 151 games

216 games

845 PAs

Beltran Plan A Beni Plan B ?

I'm of the opinion that "Plan A" would've been the Panic Move. Trading your '15 Top Ten pick plus two others for 2 months of Beltran... yikes.

Ageed. Word is DD thought the deal was done. I'm glad it wasn't!

I'm half curious who was in that trade that never happened... the other half is too scared to ask. lol

Benintendi gets a hit off Layne....what is Young going to give that Benintendi won't?

Young has a 1.042 OPS against lefties this year...I'd love it if Benintendi does that in his first season, but I wouldn't bet much on it.

Platooning Benintendi with Young once he's back would make some sense. A platoon with Bryce Brentz, not so much.

I wonder as well. Based on the package Texas gave, it shouldn't have involved any of our big pieces (Moncada/Beni/Devers/Kopech).

I think we'll all be pretty happy with AB when all is said and done.

Shiiit, I'm pretty happy right now. Plus, we already reached our Panic Move Quota for the season anyhow (Pomeranz) to some extent (I personally would've held pat two more weeks). Let's see what this winter brings when the clock isn't ticking.

They could platoon Young with all the OF'S. They can try to give each one a needed day off. JBJ CAN PLAY RIGHT AT FENWAY FOR 1DAY. Don't be afraid to move Beni into CF one day. John Farrell needs to think out of the box, but has to be smart about it. I've seen Young play center field in a pinch , when Bradley had to leave the team in Baltimore for the birth of his kid. If Beni keeps hitting left hand pitching I would not be sit him down that much.

I don't think I'd be switching Young in for JBJ of Mookie all that much.

Move them around and insert Young if they need a day, but I wouldn't make a habit of it.

Young has to play vs LHPs, but Beni doesn't have to be the one who sits most of the time

True. But, only if he's hitting as well or better than the other two.

I like the kid, but that's asking a lot.
