Our offense and the order of our lineup is not a problem (even if we picked the names out of a hat). It is the pitching stupid.

This thread is about Mookie Betts. We have a separate thread about pitching, which has been much improve this season.

Yeah we all know this at Talksox.

You have a point about such a low OBP leading off. In a vacuum Mookie would be hitting lower.

However, as Bell has pointed out, Mookie, despite his low OBP and low BA, is getting on base at a sufficient pace to lead in runs scored and be among the leaders in RBI with this offense and batting order.

Why fix what works well enough when the benefits of the change would likely be negligible? Besides, we all know that Mookie is a better batter than what he has shown so far this season. He will improve.

I guess I'm the only one who doesn't really know that.

Hey, I could be wrong.

I just assumed that most if not all posters here recognize his ability at the plate. Maybe we all have different assessments of him.

Betts has been scorching the ball the last three weeks. If there was any thought of moving him out of the leadoff spot (and it's safe to assume there was when he was struggling), he has silenced it with his play. Saying otherwise would contradict your own point, devildavid.

And I just said that it doesn't matter who bats where in this lineup. I wouldn't lead off with one of our catchers. Any order we put out there will produce plenty of runs.

Yup. I bet even Kimmi would agree with you!:P

Pretty much this is kimmi's position for any roster. I don't ascribe to that for all rosters, but for this team, they look pretty interchangeable.

Well, it's not quite as simple as that, but yes, I agree with your overall point.

As I said before, I'm a worrier. Not on my list of things to worry about are Mookie and our lineup.

David, your point about not putting a low OBP guy in the leadoff spot is certainly valid. Much of the reason why Farrell and others are not willing to move him down is because Mookie fits the conventional profile of a leadoff hitter. Another big part of the reasoning is that the offense is leading or near the top in virtually every category. Farrell has the luxury of being patient with him.

If the offense were scuffling, you can bet that Mookie would be moved down in the order, despite the fact that it's "too soon".

And right on cue as I'm typing this, Mookie hits one out on the 2nd pitch of the game. LOL Go Mookie!

Pretty much this. Even an orangutan could make the lineup these days and still they are going to make a lot of runs.

He will end up with an OPS in the top 3 Sox. 4th at worst.

I'll guess around .845.

He might be 3rd place after tomorrow night!

Not only does he homer three times, but the first one was to center, the second to left, the third to right. Each of his HR's was hit over a different wall.

Yeah, Mookie, I think it's safe to say you had a good night.

I'm waiting!!!!!

When is someone going to suggest moving Mookie up in the batting order to take more advantage of his power-hitting?

An argument could be made to have the killer B's 1-2-3:

1) Betts

2) Bogey

3) Bradley

4) Ortiz

I agree. Trade Pedroia. He shouldn't be hitting 2nd.

How badly does he suck?

Kidding!! But, i'm a little worried that he is raking far longer to shoot the outside pitches to the oposite field, and MAY NEVER EVER recover?

Over under???? Where does he finish?

Avg. .270

OBP. .310

Slg. % .470

Ops. .780

HR's. 17

rbi's. 60

Runs scored. 90

RF ranking? 10th in the mlb?

Bowling has destroyed the kid's career? Y or N

I don't see the thread, so please excuse my .... whatever?

In full disclosure...., I had the kid doing YUGE things this year. Disappointed with his slow adjustments for such a smart kid.

YUGE is back, old friend! :oD

Lunatic.

How many days until he gets his nagging injury that will plague him for the remainder of the season?

Trade him before it happens.

Really, the move is a no-brainer. Just like picking up the option on Buchholz in the offseason.

Your opinion on Pedrioa is the main reason no one should take your "no-brainer" posts seriously.
