Over, and not to worry! Yes, he's smart---sometimes too smart. As JF said the other day, "He comes into the dugout after hitting a line drive at some, and wonders what he did wrong! He'll get over it.

That's what concerns me. Will he get over it? He is young and at a key point in his development. Maybe a change would do him good.

He's pressing, likes to pull the ball, & doesn't have a great contact swing to the oposite field. Not a good combo.

He needs time to drop down in the order & work on going to the oposite field.

Just my opinion, & I happen to be right. ;)

Mookie will come around, be patient, the offense for this team is on fire and has production 1-9, it isn't a worry at all and doesn't need to be changed.

Mookie's numbers so far in May are worse than April: .222/.276/.352/.628

Farrell isn't changing the order, and Farrell knows what he's doing, right?

Last 7 days: .290/.313/.548/.861

W/ 7 R, 2 HR, 9 H, 9 RBI, 3 SO, 1 BB.

Again, He's trying to adjust to the outside corner, which is usually a ball but is getting called a strike more times than not. More times than it should be, i'll say that much. Betts is not a Pull Happy kind of hitter either, he hits to all fields. Again, his stats are very comparable to seasons past. It's not uncommon for Betts to be batting .256 mid-May. If you think it is, my guess is that you simply haven't been paying attention. I could also make the argument that w/ Betts leading-off, seeing the most ABs actually helps him as the season goes on. You're missing the forest for the trees.

Uh, his prior year numbers were extraordinarily pull heavy I thought?

Uh, Only when he gets a pitch inside. Thats why pitchers try to stay away from giving him anything inside. Thats why they go to the outside corner so much on Betts.

"Betts’ numbers don’t lie: he’s a .449 career hitter when pulls it in play, per Baseball-Reference.com, with 20 home runs to left and seven up the middle. He’s never homered to the opposite field."

Yes. I never said he hits HRs to all fields. I said he hits to all fields. HR power to all fields is a whole 'nother topic. XB has the same issue. They both need to develop HR power going the opposite way. That should come in time.

On the whole, yes. But this is something he may need to address soon, as Mookie's plate appearances approach 200.

We know. You are consumed fretting over roster crunch.;)

Ha. No, I wasn't fretting over the roster crunch, as I had no problem starting Rodriguez in AAA. I was merely pointing out the very real decisions that many others here would be fretting over had we added another mid rotation starter.

^^This.

If the team were not scoring runs and not winning, then I could understand more of a 'sense of urgency' in changing the batting order. But the team is doing very well, so they have the luxury of being more patient with Mookie.

Mookie does not have to be the leadoff hitter on this team. I am not suggesting benching him, just changing his place in the batting order. This is also a patient approach.

And then there is your fretting over the hypothetical fretting of other fans. You really are very busy with worry.

How badly does he suck?

Kidding!! But, i'm a little worried that he is raking far longer to shoot the outside pitches to the oposite field, and MAY NEVER EVER recover?

Over under???? Where does he finish?

Avg. .270

OBP. .310

Slg. % .470

Ops. .780

HR's. 17

rbi's. 60

Runs scored. 90

RF ranking? 10th in the mlb?

Bowling has destroyed the kid's career? Y or N

I don't see the thread, so please excuse my .... whatever?

In full diisclosure...., I had the kid doing YUGE things this year. Disappointed with his slow adjustments for such a smart kid.

So big deal that he's about to surpass my .270 low avg, what else has he done for us lately?

He's BARELY on pace for....

108 rbi's

Only 150 some odd runs scored. Not good enough for him to be 1st.

24 HR's. Not exactly Jim rice territory

What? Maybe 40 -50 SB's? Please! Papi could do that!

When will JF wake up & bench this kid?!?

I've seen enough to do far less than that!

If the offense were not scoring a ton of runs, I would agree with you. But with the way they're scoring and the team is winning, I'd hate to "disrupt" the lineup. Moving Mookie also means moving at least one other batter, which might or might not be a big deal. If Mookie is still not up to par in 2-3 weeks, or the offense suddenly goes cold, then you shake things up a little. Otherwise, it's too soon, IMO.

It does look like Mookie is starting to come around.
