Thank you.

I wouldn't know, because I fortunately do not suffer from an addiction, but my understanding is that a food addiction is no different than an alcohol, cigarette, or drug addiction.

No need for everyone to hate the guy because he's fat.

Why do you keep saying this? It's obviously false, and a mischaracterization of what other people say. It riles you up when people put words in your mouth, so stop doing it to others.

No one has said they dislike Sandoval because he's fat. He's disliked/hated because he sucks, and he sucks because he's out of shape. If he was playing well, no one would give a s*** about the fact that he's fat.

I'll second that. I don't actually hate anyone. I don't know Pablo Sandoval. I hate the fact that the Sox signed him even though I didn't at the time. I hate the fact that he is receiving many millions of dollars and quite possibly influencing the way budgetary issues are dealt with going forward. I hate the fact that some wanted him to play ahead of Shaw who clearly won the job and is the better player. No offense to Pablo at all - don't hate him just the way he approaches the game.

I'm out on Panda because he blew his second chance when he came into camp heavier than ever and unable to field his position.

I am looking forward to this topic dying down so there will be less belly aching ( pun obviously intended ) about it.

Hope he gets his s*** together but I don't care as far as the 2016 Sox are concerned.

He has had his chances no matter how one feels.

This team is more enjoyable w/o him

That it is. And I do not care to speculate how the team would be better IF he were playing and playing well.

That did not happen and it will not happen, as I see it.

I really like Shaw. He is big, athletic, has a rifle for an arm and just quite simply earned the right to be our third baseman.

I agree. I saw enough of him last year to believe that he belonged in Boston. I assumed 1st base. I am not surprised at all that he has taken to third as well as he has.

His size mad me think that he may not have the agility and range to play 3rd.

But so far, so good.

Same here........

Last year he looked like a big man that moved well. This year he just looks like a man that moves well.

Actually...... there is no way to say it other than I'm shocked how well he is playing third. Those bare hand grabs he has been making and him ranging to his left, and just over all is dang impressive.

And that he'll make a play that was cool, or hit a shot that bring in a run all while looking like.......... he's done it before........ makes me really like his game....

I am amazed at how well he's reclaimed his college position considering how little he'd played it in the meantime. He was a little rusty in the Spring but seems to have shaken that off completely now and is probably playing better 3B than he did in college. He's clearly worked hard on that, and I'm pleased.

That saaaaaaaaid... those who are too quick to congratulate themselves over Shawo do head over to fangraphs and check out his BABIIP. I think there still may yet be trouble in the wind...

hopefully he just adds more walks, cuts down on the strikeouts and starts flashing his power again, and keeps his numbers up while BABIP normalizes. that would be nice.

I won't be checking out the crystal ball on any of these guys. Just going to enjoy what this young man is doing right now.

You want to make this a moral question which it isn't. You incorrectly and disingenuously try to characterize criticism of Sandoval as hate which of course it isn't. This tone of moral superiority is unbecoming. The fact is those closest to Sandoval realize his behavior is self destructive and recognize he is his own worst enemy.

No, I'm really not trying to make it a moral question. I have already admitted that I am not morally superior to anyone.

There is an awful lot of vitriol and hate being spewed towards Pablo. You can deny it all you want, but it's as plain as day.

As far as I have heard from people who actually know Pablo, he's a good person. He's in a difficult situation. If you feel he has no one to blame but himself, that's fine. Regardless, there is no reason to continue to beat a man when he is down. None. Especially now that he's not even on the 25 man roster.

Nobody is beating on Pablo unless he reads this forum, which is highly unlikely. I think commenting here about a guy who showed up so out of shape that he could not compete for a starting position is fair game for fans. The fact that $17M is sitting on the bench or on the DL because that player failed to address his addiction is hurting our team. That money could and should have been spent elsewhere.

This is a place similar to a bar or the stadium or other gathering place for fans to watch the games. People at bars and at the ballparks are commenting about the guy's weight. We are just doing the same thing. None of us here is sending him hate mail about it. I don't know why she gets so bent out of shape about it.

I am not beating Pablo when he is down but reacting to your characterization of criticism of him as hate. Pablo is only incidental to my post, it is your tendency to demonize those who disagree with you as being hateful that is the issue.

Commenting on him being out of shape and how that might impact his ability to field his position are fair game. Many of the other comments have been unfair.

I retract all of my "Pablo hate" posts and apologize to anyone who I offended by them.

I was wrong to make that assumption.

Truth is, its likely that no one here knows Pablo Sandoval, so no one has any right to "hate" him. For my part, I almost feel sorry for the guy as I would any human being with an addiction problem that they cannot or will not address. Thats the human thing to do. I do not feel any more sorry for him than I would any stranger with that problem. But the guy is getting paid $17M, and when he took up a spot on the pine instead of at 3B, that hurts my team. Part of that is on Cherington for signing him, but part of it is for Sandoval failing to get some help. I think its time for the Red Sox to move on past Pablo Sandoval. He is sunk money.

I'm sorry, those statements may be unkind, but I disagree strenously with "unfair."

When the guy promised to come into camp 20 pounds lighter and came in 40 pounds heavier, busted a belt buckle with a swing, completely unable to field his position, and got hurt twice within a month when he tried, clearly has no control over his agent, and the team has tens of millions of dollars sunk into the guy, you just can't expect people to keep biting their lips. Someone is going to say some unkind words. At this point I think it's clear that someone needed to say some unkind things to Pablo much earlier.

Sometimes the words we choose to use are not particularly kind and can seem hateful.

My problem with Pablo is more a problem with baseball. You shouldn't get stuck with a player for that much money and years when they aren't doing their job. I don't care why he isn't doing his job, he isn't doing it, that's all that matters. None of us are his friends, family, therapists, etc. We are Red Sox fans. We want players who do their job (well). It doesn't matter who the individual is, it's the fact that resources are limited in a baseball and he is talking up a big portion of their resources for a long time into the future.

The Red Sox should do everything in their power to try to get him help and make him useful. He hasn't earned any spot on the MLB team though and he won't be hopefully until he figures his s*** out or they figure out how to get rid of him. The problem is the fact that it doesn't appear that he is going to be worth anything in the future and we are indeed stuck with him, no one is going to touch him with the kind of money he is due. And quite frankly, he doesn't deserve the money he is getting. It was a completely WTF signing then and it looks like one of the worst contracts in the history of baseball right now. Not good.

I don't agree with many of your assessments recently (which is unusual) but you're a good un Kimmi.

Chase Headley has sucked almost as bad as Panda.*
