He is a pretty big guy, so I think his power will develop. I'd project him topping out at 15-20 in a few years. I don't see him as a big home run guy.

i'm thinking that if he stays quick which means he doesn't put on much weight at all, he becomes a fixture at ss for a long time. He has proven that he is a hard worker. Physically, I think that he needs to stay right where he is if he is going to stay at ss. I think that he is very good and secures that vital position for years to come. What ever power he comes up with is a big added bonus.

Sorry to chime in so off topic, but I like baseball humor and I'm not sure where else to post this....Couple of broadcasts ago, Don Orsillo remarked on Remy's Boston accent.....(Remy says "Pedroier" all the time)......Seems Remy said something about Xander B. and his homeland of

......."Aruber??"

I have an Ex who was making the mistake of asking people for directions when she first came to Boston and was told that she should stop at what she thought was "Knot Station?" Who can guess how the direction giver thought "Knot Station" is spelled?

It's got to be North Station.

The bit about Remy's accent was pretty funny.

As much as Remy butchers players names, I couldn't figure out what was funny about the way he pronounced Bogaert's name.

"Naver" always cracks me up.

I gave up on this team a bit early -- they need to play for their lives this week. 7 games. That's not as daunting as 9 or 10. Pedroia and Hanley need to get healthy, and they need to figure something out with Porcello, but maybe they're not out yet.

Cueto/Buchholz/E-Rod/Miley/Johnson. Could be an excellent rotation.

The pitching performance of the last couple of weeks does offer some hope.

That and the fact that this is still a weak division.

They just need some consistent offense. Too many decent pitching starts have been wasted.

I found this portion of (wasn't it) Sunday's broadcast hilarious. Upon meeting Remy on a bus, some family had laughed when he said, Xandah Boegahts." Remy wanted to know what the deal was, and Orsillo went into great detail about other names Remy butchers.

Yup, then he got a wave of texts, citing even more names.

This team's problems are obvious. At 7 games back, its not completely unrealistic for this team to get back into the race if the right moves are made.

The biggest problem right now seems to be ownership pride. Cut Masterson, Napoli. Phantom DL Porcello. Kelly to the bullpen. Get Hanley the f*** out of the outfield. If they're not comfortable with lots of rookies, looking for a low cost inning eater-- maybe someone like an Aaron Harang-- would help. An ace would be lovely, but a #2/3 would be great too.

These moves seem obvious to most of us. Besides the last one, I don't understand why they haven't happened.

This team can play like a playoff team here on out. However, the hole they dug for themselves is much too deep.

Maybe. Maybe not. If they keep winning it could turn around but they won't win playoff games with this team

Harang wouldn't be the worst idea. A low cost innings eater that can keep a sub 4 ERA would be great.

Too many teams in front of them. They just dug too much of a hole in the first 2 months imo.

I have to tell you that I agree with much of what you have written. I don't get it. It is obvious. guess it is just not our money.

Cutting Masterson makes a lot of sense - reason you sign him for 1-year is to be able to blast him without any regrets

Napoli needs to be platooned at best - really a Hanley-Sandoval-Napoli platoon between 3B and 1B would not be unreasonable, which would also allow them to back up LF a bit better

I do think Johnson will be up by the end of the break. The team is saved by being the AL East where one 20-7 sort of month probably wins the thing.

At the same time, the players are playing better - this season has been more about underperformance than pure talent gaps. I think the front office hesitation so far has really been about figuring out whether they are buying or not. The truth is, without these 25 guys playing better, adding guys will not do much. But they are playing better, and that's important.

I'm with you on most of it. How do you get Hanley our of left???????

The guy is a pure hitter.....

A few weeks ago I'd say put him in DH............. but Ortiz is starting to crank.......

Posted

There is no other position Hanley is going to be good at. The guy is uncoordinated.

He can hit the crap out of the ball when healthy. He seriously can hit like crazy, pitchers are afraid of him.

He's doing the least damage he can do in left............ and it's like a bull in a china shop.....

We could cut Napoli and start Hanley at 1B, making another position he's never played for him to get used to.

Players to trade

Buchholz has value because the contract is as flexible as they come, and high ceiling pitchers are worth gold this time of year. If he's healthy and continues to perform, I wouldn't be surprised if they can get major league quality talent for him. Maybe even more from Theo.

Hanley has a career .870 OPS. I can't stress this enough, but someone will want that bat for a stretch run. 3/60 isn't an insane contract for a 31 year old either. Argue with me all you want, there is an elite prospect waiting out there.

Koji is expensive, but lock down relievers can be good trade chips. Look at Miller.

Masterson/Victorino might be worth something in a trade if the Red Sox eat their entire contracts.

Players to Keep

Napoli is worth more here than in a trade. Same with Craig. Maybe one of them turns it around.

Wade Miley, Porcello too. Worth more here than in a dump.

Betts/Bogaerts/Swihart/Castillo/Rodriguez/Pedroia/Tazawa. They're the core, don't trade them.

Ortiz. Keep him for the fanbase.

Because no team in the AL East looks like they can run away, I think there is a chance. Slim, but a chance. Because they play so many games with teams in their division that would also help. I can see all of your trade candidates getting move though.

They need to make moves to get back in this race. If not , the only thing under us in the standings on Fenway's green monster will be the warning track.

Being 6 games out with half the season still to go, the Sox are very much still in this. Having to catch 4 other teams makes it a bit more difficult, but none of the teams are running away with the division, and there are plenty of games left against those teams. I agree, some moves will have to be made, but this season is far from over.

Yep. And I'm sure you'll agree that it always a good thing to have some Thunder mojo on our side.

But you hit the nail on the head. It may seem like the Yankees are rolling right now, but they certainly aren't going to go on a tear to really run away with it. The AL East winner will likely clinch on one of the first 4 days of October, the last 4 days of the season.

Ok well, the referring to yourself in third person needs to stop. Right away. Please and thank you.

We were 9 games out in August of 2007 and won the WS. Granted our current pitching staff is not even close to what we had then.

Bottom line. Don't give up.

I think you mean 2004, since in 2007. the Sox pretty much wire to wired the AL East, but the point still stands.

Thank you!

Will do. Never again.

You are right. We must never give up. One thing that would be nice is another "Tessie," a song that forms our rallying cry and propels us to the point that we all know we can get to.

Thunder mojo is awesome! Keep it going tonight.

We can get right back in this thing.
