A-Rod to be banned from baseball for life. Why not just save him the trouble, and just hand the Yankees a 100 million dollar check?

That's if he tries to appeal the ban. If he's smart he'll take the deal to miss the remainder of this year and the next.

Now it's reported that A-Rod is going to take a deal. I have to say MLB did a good job on all this. They boxed A-Rod into an impossible position. Checkmate.

It was an obvious situation once his lawyers saw the evidence. Selig was going to use the best interest of baseball clause, which is un-appealable really. There is no arbiter for that charge, only Selig, and it isn't challengeable by the legal system as it is written in the CBA and is a power given to the commish. When charged with either missing 200 games or being banned from baseball for life (and losing another $70 mil in the process) it is really no question. Now, the only question is if the Yankees plan to sue Fraud for damage to the brand. I hope they do, come to a buyout agreement and then see ARod go off into the sunset

This is probably going to help the Yankees to get back into buying any player they want as this will free up $25 million I believe. The rest of the MLB will suffer if the Yankees get out from under the contract.

I can see why Bud Selig wants to come down on the players but this is a case of therefore helping the ball club.

Collateral damage I guess.

Although I love to see Yankees fans turning on their own, and I do agree that A-Rod should get banned.. Nothing would make me happier than to see him come back to their lineup and struggle, and the Yankees have to keep paying him on that god awful stupid f***ing contract they signed him to.

ARod has always been a merc to me. And a merc has to perform. He's been in NY 10 yrs now and he's had one good postseason and won 1 title. That's not enough when the other 9 seasons he's either completely sucked in the playoffs or been injured. His regular season numbers have been gaudy, but that's not how u get measured when you're the best player in the game and you come to the best franchise in the game

i just don't understand why they are going through the pretense of sim games and rehab assignments....hey Selig..get this over with...announce those suspensions...especially Ass-Rod's

ARod's getting on a plane to Chicago, but will he play? I really hope not. If he does, I hope the White Sox fans give it to him every time he's at bat.

I heard that the way the Yankee's insurance policy works is that they will only pay the full salary of a season if A-rod doesn't play a single game -- that is probably why the Yanks have tried so hard to prevent him from playing.

Girardi said he penciled him into tomorrow's lineup.

I saw ARod's press conference today. You almost feel sorry for the guy. Almost. He seemed pretty sincere about wanting to play and help the Yankees win. I'm sure that's what he was told to say. He avoided questions about PEDs. It's true he's been through a helluva lot with his hip injuries, rehab, etc. But that was probably caused by taking steroids. Whenever these guys hips and legs fall apart, you have to suspect steroids, especially after they've had monster years. Steroids can work miracles, but they'll bite you if you take them too much or regularly. Prednisone comes to mind.

The way I see it, the Yankees made their bed with ARod's ridiculous contract, and now they should lie in it. But they need to retool, and are pretty desperate to get out of his contract--or as much of it as they can. That we are seeing Selig separating ARod from the others--without any disclosed justification--is a testimony as to how powerful the Yankees are. He's giving them a years' salary--probably as much as he figures he can get away with. The arbiter, however, may see things differently.

The other factor is the media. So much of it is based in NY--the networks, etc. ESPN, CBS, Yahoo, Fox. Predictably, most are on the side of the Yankees. Morosi alone of Fox has suggested the Yankees are a factor in Selig's treatment of ARod. Most of the others sound like mouthpieces for the Yankees.

I think A-Rod would say anything to guarantee the money keeps flowing. There seems to be good evidence that he tampered with evidence of the Biogenesis situation.....I would not take anything he says or does with much trust.

Girardi is the type of guy who doesn't give a crap about any of the controversy surrounding ARod. He's going to field his best team, and that means ARod starts and bats cleanup, I guess, tonite. Joe doesn't let the political BS interfere with his managing. I remember he got fired in Miami for telling the owner where to go.

I suspect this is what the ARod "ban" is all about. The Yankees are powerful. Interesting the PA seems to be backing ARod. We'll see. Showalter has managed the Yankees. He knows the organization.

Why is he crying about this? I assume these are the rules, and would be the same for any team with a suspended player.

This has nothing to do with the Yankees. ARod recruited players to this clinic, was the most avid user of PEDs and then tried to destroy evidence of his involvement as bribe the owner of the now defunct clinic. He did a lot more than just use

Yet if his appeal fails he will sue MLB saying this is all ******** and not proved. I hope MLB has some pretty tight evidence.

Gotta love it. He's such a victim In today's society, he should get paid even if he lied and cheated......

This guy is amazing. He and his camp ratted out a few biogenesis guys, Braun and his own team mate Cevelli. Though Cevelli always seems like he was on meth.

John Lackey: A-Rod shouldn't be playing for Yankees

Posted by Peter Abraham, Globe Staff August 15, 2013 11:50 PM

TORONTO — In his first game in the majors, back in 2002, John Lackey gave up a home run to Alex Rodriguez. Years later, Rodriguez admitted that he used performance-enhancing drugs during that season.

Now Lackey will likely face Rodriguez on Saturday when he starts against the Yankees. Once again, his drug use is an issue.

Rodriguez was suspended for 211 games on Aug. 5. Major League Baseball said at the time it had evidence Rodriguez used numerous forms of PEDs over multiple years.

Rodriguez has yet to deny baseball’s findings but appealed his punishment and has since played nine games for the Yankees, hitting .278 with one home run and four RBIs.

Lackey doesn’t believe it’s fair Rodriguez is on the field.

“I’ve got a problem with it. You bet I do,” Lackey told the Globe on Thursday. “How is he still playing? He obviously did something and he’s playing. I’m not sure that’s right. … It’s pretty evident he’s been doing stuff for a lot of years I’ve been facing him.”

Lackey said the topic is one that comes up frequently in the Red Sox clubhouse, especially among the pitchers.

“Sure, we talk about it,” he said. “But talking to the media about it is a little bit different. People have strong feelings. He took me deep the first time I faced him as a rookie and he admitted to doing stuff back then. There are a lot of things I want back from him.”

Red Sox manager John Farrell deflected questions about whether Rodriguez should be on the field.

“He has every right to appeal it, which he is. We know he’s going to be in the lineup and we’ll prepare accordingly. The process he’s going through is well within his rights. They’re in place for a reason and you can’t argue that.”

As a competitor, is Farrell upset his team has to face a player who has apparently been cheating for years? The Sox have 39 games remaining, 10 against the Yankees. Rodriguez could have a significant impact on the pennant race.

“I understand what you’re getting at. But he being on the field is out of our hands,” Farrell said. “Until completely proven guilty, this is what we’re dealing with.”

See the Globe on Friday for more on how the Red Sox feel about facing A-Rod this weekend.
