a-roid has definitely helped expose the average yankee fan for the bandwagon whores they are. First night back with the eyes of the world on him a few of them pretended to have some credibility and boo him. After a few games and a few hits they now cheer for him like pre-pubescent girls at a Justin Bieber concert. And all for naught, soon the yankee caps will be back under the beds and a-rod will become as irrelevant as bonds, clemens and the like.

I missed this gem. Brennan, how do you feel about Ortiz?

When was Ortiz suspended? When was he charged with recruiting others to use? Ortiz didn't break any MLB rules. Arod did.

Ortiz tested positive for a banned substance before there was a punishment phase in testing. He wasn't punished, but he definitely broke the rules and cheated. He's just as much a cheater as Pettitte

There was not a rule in place. He didn't break any rules.

Edit: I also think Bonds and Clemens should be in the HOF.

couple of general questions...1)does Alex's actions possibly cloud the arb's thought process going forward 2) what effect if any will have on MLB's position 3)if he was serious about his walkout, can he forced back?? Edited by jete02fan

I'm gonna go with 100. The delay into the new year makes me think the arbiter is going to ratchet it down

I would like to see ARod win his arbitration case and get it reduced to 50 games. That would mess up the $pankees plans because they already have plans to spend that money.

I would like to see A-rod not lose any games, but be banned from the playoffs for the rest of his career, and have an official ARod Asterix™ next to any of his career statistics. Its win-win for everyone involved. Well, except for the Yankees, and A-rod, but who cares about them?

What they should do is give him a full year ban, but keep his salary as part of the luxury tax cap. Yanks should also pay out his salary, but 100% goes to drug prevention youth programs. That way, teams would not be able to turn a blind eye to dirty players.

Alex Rodriguez suspended 162 games.
Damn! I wanted his return to be looming over the Yankees in 2014. Has ARod agreed to the 162 games or does he have another appeal available?

He can go to the federal level, but at that point, it won't really change anything. MLB followed their policies and procedures. He's done for the entirety of 2014, as this covers playoffs too. So, Mr. Tanaka, here's a 6 yr $108 mil offer. Sign here and here and brush up on your English, cause you're going to NY

He can appeal this decision to Federal Court. I guess that it is possible that he could get an injunction while the Federal Court is considering the appeal. He probably has 60 days to appeal the decision which would bring the timeline up to Spring Training. The Federal Court deliberation could spill over into the regular season. I hope that he gets an injunction and disrupts the Yankees Spring Training Camp.

Alex Rodriguez Suspension Now 162 Games

By Charlie Wilmoth [January 11 at 10:45am CST]

The result of Alex Rodriguez's appeal is in, and he will be suspended for 162 games, Bob Nightengale of USA Today tweets. Rodriguez plans to appeal the suspension in federal court. The suspension will cover the full 2014 season, and also the postseason, Yahoo! Sports' Tim Brown tweets. The suspension previously was 211 games. Even though the suspension was reduced, the decision by arbitrator Fredric Horowitz appears to be a victory for Major League Baseball, which won a suspension for A-Rod that goes far beyond those of other first-time PED offenders.

"The number of games sadly comes as no surprise, as the deck has been stacked against me from day one," says Rodriguez in a statement released on his Facebook page. "I am confident that when a Federal Judge reviews the entirety of the record ... the judge will find that the panel blatantly disregarded the law and facts, and will overturn the suspension."

The MLBPA, meanwhile, says in a statement that it disagrees with the arbitrator's decision, but respects the process that led to it. "We recognize that a final and binding decision has been reached, however, and we respect the collectively-bargained arbitration process which led to the decision," says the union.

A-Rod's suspension for the entire season means the Yankees will save about $24.3MM against the 2014 luxury tax threshold. Rodriguez's luxury-tax figure is $27.5MM, but Joel Sherman of the New York Post notes (via Twitter) that the Yankees will be assessed about $3.16MM of that, since 183 days, and not 162, counts as a year. In any case, the suspension could help the Yankees get below the $189MM threshold, if they choose. The Yankees will also save $25MM in salary

No such injunction will occur. He can try to go to the federal level, but he's a member of a union which negotiated this process in good faith. This means that going to the federal level is inappropriate and something the union likely won't get behind him for. Also, in federal court, he'll have to swear under oath that he didn't use PEDs, and he could risk his freedom if the evidence MLB has is damning enough. I doubt he goes that route, as the last thing he needs is a criminal trial. At that point, the Yankees could terminate his contract

This is why I hate the $pankees! They just throw $$$$$$ at their problems. Wouldn't it be great if he told them they can keep their money and sign somewhere else.

It might still happen but I've always believed that Tanaka would wind up with the Yankees. A bit of optimism? Well I said A-Turd would get 90 days and he got over twice as much as that so don't take my prediction to the bank quite yet.

108 million? That's the starting point in negotiations.

That's why I hate the $$$$$$$$$uxxxxx. They just throw money at their problems. Think the Astros could have filled all those holes like the $ux did? That's the reason the $ux won the World Series. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

That's quite an eloquent use of the money sign, and one i am certain will clarify your position about BHE's complaints regarding the New York Yankees' spending habits.

And back on topic, MLBTR posted some opinions from legal experts about A-Rod's chances of overturning his suspension or getting an injunction. They all replied with essentially "Lol no."

He's still talkin' the talk though. The guy is too much. There's going to be an interview with Bosch on TV tomorrow night...I heard a clip from it in which he lists 4-5 substances A-Rod was using.
