They aren't moving Story off SS. It's more likely they move him off the 40 man.

Tracy is not Cora, but you could be right.

I'm beginning to think at least one from Story, Duran and Yoshida will not be on the Sox 40 on opening day 2027.

To me, the defense is clearly better with Arias at SS and Story at 2B, Mead would offer a solid back-up and could be the DH. That pushes Anthony to LF and makes Duran the one who is gone.

Mead at 2B, Anthony at DH and Duran/Jones in LF makes Story the odd man out.

Either way, we'd have a DH and no need for Yoshida, but since it's near impossible to move him, maybe we keep him as the back-up DH and LF'er.

I get the point about adding a big bat, and am not against the idea.

I remember some of us looking at 300 more PAs from Anthony in 2026 as an "in house" boost to the offense, and it turned out he had less PAs in 2026 than 2025. There was also some hopes Story could stay healthy and give us something close to 2025, when he led the team in HRs, RBIs and SBs. NOPE! Some had hopes Narvaez could repeat or improve on 2025: NOPE! Some had hopes our younger players could progress along the age-related bell curve: Rafaela did: Abreu did not. Sogard did: Duran did not.

Repeating the same pattern of hoping or projecting growth and better health from more of our players than regressions seems like folly, but I still think there is some logic to expect more growth than decline, as most of our players are pre-prime or prime. Contreras seems like the obvious counterpoint with an expected decline, but when you look at other aged players, most did not give us much this year, so counting on them to repeat is not asking for anything. With Arias we probably don't need Story to give us near 2025 numbers. Withe Anthony, Jones, White and Yoshida, we don't need to count on Duran to repeat 2024 or even 2025. With Yoshida giving us as little as Duran and Story did, what do we need to replace? Plus, we have about 4-5 DHs or DH platoon options.

Duran is no longer a valuable piece to the Sox or probably anyone else at this point. He should be replaced and I am sorry to see his underperformance but it's time to admit he no longer can help us. With Arais due to make the team at the start of 2027, Story is extra baggage unless kept for DH and utility. An infield of Durbin, Arais, Mead and Contreras makes sense. Sogard is a very good utility piece. Yoshida would be hard to move but at least makes enough contact to part time at DH. Our hitting fundamentals are poor and we lack power bats. We could add a big bat, but where would he play. Should we reconfigure the outfield? Hard to move on from the 3 we currently have. I've got to believe we are lacking in the coacching of our hitters. I expected more from our outfield, but them seem to  have regressed.

I was the one who said add Owen to the 40 man in August.  Now we have Nate Eaton in LF.

I’d rather have Eaton than the left-handed hitting Hull.  117 plate appearances in the Sally League doesn’t adequately prepare anyone to face Max Fried.   Why not just call up Kristian Campbell since he bats right—handed, is already on the 40, and had a nearly identical OPS to Hull in the ACC?

In extremely limited action, Eaton has a 1.467 OPS vs Fried…

Arias is not MLB ready.  Weren't you pushing for Mayer not too long ago?

I can guess the answers but if Duran. Story and Yoshida cannot be expected to make positive contributions in 2027 , then just eat the contracts and the money for the last 2.

They are either better or not than younger alternatives.  JH does not keep losing positions in his hedge funds.  Sox can afford to eat Yoshi and Trevor 's deal . In fact, if no team wants either with or without Duran added for almost free doesn't that tell you something about keeping them ?

He is ready.

If not, we still have Story, Mead and decent depth with Sogard, Seigler, Monasterio.

I guess we could add a one year fix at SS to bridge to Arias, but next year, you'll say he's not ready.

With Mayer, it wasn't about not being ready- it was about not being good enough.

Sorry, but not ready.

Hard to know.

At this point, I'd rather roll the dice with Arias than hope for a Story reboot.

He played half the year in Worcester, where the Sox promote players they feel are MLB-ready…

And send rehabing players to get back up to speed  and lastly, send players like KC to see if they were ever real

Exactly what does cutting Yoshida and Story do?  Free up roster space for Ryan Jeffers?  Or Randy “The Missing Piece” Arozarena?

They sent Campbell back down to f*** up his swing.

I do think the timing of the resolution of the new CBA will play a big part in determining outcomes for  expiring contracts or non- tenders like Yoshi, Story or Duran .  Don't expect any movement or resolutions until CBA is a known entity, also how to resolve remaining contract balances

At this point, it might be worth remembering that the last time the CBA expired, the week before the lockout became a flurry or free agent deals, including Corey Seager, Max Scherzer, and Marcus Semien…

One more year of Story.  Then when he’s gone, it will be followed by 2 years of revolving door at SS until Henry Godbout takes over…

Last nights game reminded me of one thing…… according to Fangraphs the Red Sox Roster was paid 199m this year……..12th most in MLB,

The Yankees and Steinbrenners roster was paid 310m or 155% of what the Red Sox roster got paid.
it was brutally obvious all these years of playing bullsh** mental games has landed us in a spot where Fenway hasn’t seen a single October baseball game since 2021.

The mental games of this bum owner has led us to where we eventually trade Devers, not resign Bregman, not resign Kyle Schwarbers, extend minor leaguers waaaay too early like Kristian Campbell and Roman Anthony.

It is time for ownership to look themselves in the mirror, and realize the revenue of this baseball organization comes from passionate people spending their hard earned dollars and they deserve sooooo much more than a payroll to players 12th highest in MLB.

Godbout isn't an MLB SS.

What do the next few months look like?

October is the postseason. November will be business as usual for departing FA's, but there will be less moves at the GM meetings. December 1st will be a lockout. Yay.

You don't see Arias as our next FT/long term SS?
