They wouldn't but they would save little money...

Yoshida: 27:$18M

Teoscar: 27:$14.5M, 28:$15M club option ($6.5M buyout), 29:$15M conditional option

They don't need to save money, so maybe we'd have to include someone like Brannon, JO Garcia, or some bubble guy.

How about Yoshida & Duran for TH?

Masa is a DH. They already have a fulltime DH.

Trading the DH would mean he's no longer the DH.

It's not rocket science. Adding Duran forces Anthony to LF (not an option at DH anymore.)

Huh? Teoscar isn't the Dodgers's DH. He only DH'd 4 times. Ohtani and Masa can't fit on the same roster. Trading Masa to the Dodgers doesn't make any sense.

He means the existence of Ohtani means they would not want Yoshida. And I agree.  But they also do not want TH.  TH is also a DH, and had a WAR of 1 last year.  Dodgers are not going to just pencil him in at LF next year.  They fix their holes, they dont think about how much money they've already allocated to the position.

Its more of a change of scenery / bad-contract swap.  If we are including Duran, then they have a couple reasons to do it.

He was in the 15th percentile last year at -5 , defensive value.  And I think it would have been worse if he played the whole year.  I think that today, Masa might be the better defensive LF, if Im being honest.

Why would the Doyers make that trade?

Why would the Red Sox? Hernandez is more expensive, a year older and basically the same hitter at this point…

Hes not the same hitter.

Hernandez had an OPS+ of 108 last year and 103 the year before.  Yoshida had a 111 last year.  They’re both slightly above average.

Hernandez might slug more, but will also make more outs.  It’s not a significant trade off to go from one to the other.

Sox are probably better off passing on an aging and declining Teoscar and letting Mead DH while riding out one last year of Yoshida…

I'm not saying the Sox would. I'm just saying the Dodgers definitely wouldn't want Masa.

Got it.

BTW, hoe much worse is Yoshida in OF D than Teoscar?

Teoscar has an all fields approach that wouldn't work at Fenway for him. He's better off with LAD or just not with BOS.

I would try moving Duran or Masa. I would make Roman LF. Mead is DH. Arias is 2b. Find a defensive backup at C to replace Wong.

We don't know because Masa barely plays. SSS defensive metrics plus playing in Fenway, make it unreliable to judge him. However, in 801 career Innings, he's -7 DRS, -10 OAA, -13 FRV which is much worse than Teoscar's -5/-5/-6 in 999 Innings in '26. Masa hasn't been a fulltime OFer in many, many years even going back to Japan.

Teoscar Hernandez was 32 years old when the defensively suspect righthanded hitter landed a three-year, $66 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers after posting 2.3 bWAR in 160 games with the Seattle Mariners.

I'd say they are similar.  I think Aroz will get his $66M/3, but I would not do so.

How about we keep our 111 OPS+ and the LAD keep their 108 OPS+.  For the RS, I'd prefer the OBP.  It might not be a coincidence that the RS stopped scoring when Masa got injured.

I prefer Arias at SS and Story at 2b.  But Trevor might be not so happy.  Next thing you know he’ll be talking sarcastically to reporters through his Texan-to-English interpreter that he thinks he’ll have to play everywhere…

Teoscar isn’t exactly an elite outfielder.  But at a minimum, the man can still throw hard…

I assume Arias starts at 2b and takes over SS when Story gets injured in June.

Thats a pretty minimal difference.  Masa did have the better OPS+, but it was still extremely close.

Like I said earlier, basically the same hitter…

Giving him all the way until June?  You’re softening…

Masa's OPS isn't higher though.

I wouldn't have gone that far, but both guys are DH's that own a LF's glove.  i see no reason for the LAD to want either guy, but I wouldn't make my decision based on one or the other being worse.

Regardless, the Dodgers have little interest in adding Masa to their lineup. If the Sox are going to move him, there are better fits (LAA, TEX, CIN).

Story at SS for 2027 would be a crime.

If the plan is not to have Arias at SS, it would be a bigger reason for disliking Brez than anything anyone has hated on him about to date. Okay, maybe the Sale deal, but no matter what anyone thinks, there was legitimate cause for that deal. It just turned out Sale went from 5 years of nada to CY contention out of nowhere.

We are going nor can we trade Story, so having him at 2B (back-up SS) and Mead at DH (back-up 2B) should be the first adjustment made from the 2026 to 2027 season. Of course Mead at DH further muddies the logjam at DH and to some extent LF (Anthony/Duran and even Jones-Campbell.)

The next major order of business will be Sonny Gray. How to bring him back or replace him in kind. We should not just assume Crochet fills Gray's slot and no SP additions are needed. Thinking that would be a second MAJOR black mark against Brez, if it happens.

None of this should ba major addition to the budget, even if Gray adds $10M to the Lux tax budget. We lose IKF and Sandoval and need to replace them in kind.

The next major choice is something I'm sure will be hotly debated all winter long.

Add a big bat or add more quality pitching and/or pitching depth. Maybe we can do both. I doubt Henry allows it, and we've just about run out of young and valuable trade capital.

He has that over Yoshida, for sure.
