Red Sox will regret not acquiring a starter at the deadline

Bennett and Tolle will both hit a wall. There’s a month and a half left in the regular season, nevermind playoff innings.
Crochet will most likely be a bullpen arm and not stretched out to be a starter in October. Sandoval has been out two years so durability and stamina are LEGIT concerns.

So it’s Gray, Suarez (who’s not looked good since returning from the IL), Sandoval, and the wildcard Brayan Bello. Can Bello start again and have success?.. Is this what this team was going to rely on going into the playoffs? 
a lot of people wanted and said we needed another starter like we did in 2013 with Jake Peavy. Not a top guy, but a good solid starter that can handle the workload and take some innings from the others down the stretch. 
we’re going to have to hope the offense, with the additions of Adley Rucshman and a returning Roman Anthony, can carry us on some nights.
Besides a good bullpen arm, they didn’t address pitching, and personally, I think they will regret it.

Miles Mikolas got DFAd today.  Problem solved.  Unless you want a starter that doesn’t suck.

I suppose the MLB debuts of Holobetz and/or Wehunt might happen in the near future…

I'd take either over Mikolas TBH. Holobetz is still 30 IP under his career high.

FWIW Sean Manaea is on a streak of four straight quality starts, posting an ERA of 2.16 over 25 innings.

Manaea has been OK this year.  Were the Mets willing to trade him?  He’s under contract for one more year at $25mill.  The only SP they traded are both FA after the season.  (Technically Holmes has a player option.)

They are a team with a decent offense playing .500 ball. It's not that impressive TBH. 

Yordan should win MVP this year.

In some respects Sean Manaea is the lefthanded Luis Castillo with a similar contract and age.

nope, castillo doesnt have the extension, which doesnt age. Hard pass on castillo, interested in manea.

With the way the schedule is these days, they play a LOT less divisional games. Yordan has mashed against everyone.

I agree the rotation could become a concern once the games get more important. Bennett and Tolle have been good, but relying on young starters for a full playoff workload is a big ask, while Sandoval and Suarez still have their own questions. The Patriots Limousine mention aside, I think having one more dependable starter would have given the team much more flexibility. Do you think Bello can realistically fill that gap?

Bennett is going into today’s game at 116ip which is 41 more ip than last year. Most baseball people will tell you that 40ish ip past the prior years total is where they usually cut these young guys off, especially a little over a year returning from TJS in Bennetts case. They may push him a little but he’s NOT part of the playoff rotation. 
Tolle may last longer since there’s no injury and he’s a big boy who can handle a big ip load. so I imagine he could finish the season as a starter or come close. He’ll probably be a pen arm for the playoffs as well. 
it’ll be Gray Suarez Sandoval, with Bello hanging around, as it stands right now as our playoff rotation. 
sorry but I’m not incredibly confident with this. There were many low cost options to go get. I hope the guys they just promoted to AAA, Holobetz/Wehunt are ready for the show, and I hope the offense can get going again and stay there.

With that said…

Arias needs to come up. There’s zero for him in AAA. Like Devers and Xander, the rest of his development can happen in MLB. Anthony returning and Arias getting the call would be a nice boost this team could use.

I understand that, but Are those guys coming off TJS just a year ago?
