Since 1961, the Sox are the only time a club has 6 series sweeps vs division leaders.

Last night broke a team streak of 28 games not allowing 6 or more runs. 2nd longest since 1920 (Sox in '67.)

This is history, folks.

Like I said above, bring up Gamboa today (he's supposed to start). Call up Wehunt for Sunday for the bullpen game and have him start (his scheduled start date).

Only moron managers use bullpen games during prolonged stretches without days off…

Many talked about needing an innings eater SP'er, even beyond the idea that Bennett and Tolle might need some rest.

Miller was an okay add, but he's not really a work horse. Having Bello in the pen helps. We may need to rotate some AAA arms into the 26 every 2-3 days, and eventually bring back Weissert.

Right now, our AAA choices are:

Rivera

Gamboa

Samaniego

Weissert

Possible add-ons: Wehunt, Holobetz, Ziehl, Bastardo or Paez

You know it's a weird season when discussing how the third base coach has turned around his season is a viable conversation.  As I listen to the announcer go on about this team's accomplishments he was interrupted twice as the Red Sox rifled doubles down the line and circled the bases.   What an amazing thing we are experiencing.

You want that I should double-check the math on that one?

The RS announcers made the same curious claim:  one of those streaks is going to end tonight .

Only if both teams win or both teams lose…

there is a lot I don't like about modern baseball, I am almost 60, but bullpen games just don't make sense to me. go to a six man rotation if you want to save innings. is your organization so desperate for starters there isn't one guy at AAA that can come up for a start?

Obviously all is well today, but I question why some claims get taking at face value and not challenged.  But today's question of the day starts off later this afternoon.

after last night, i'm thinking Tolle is just fine.

My guess is that pitchers like their routines.  And it makes no difference whether or not that routine makes sense or not.  I don't know if it means anything, since I don't know if the numbers are polluted by openers, injuries, etc., but these are the 4-, 5-, and 6+ days of rest:

4 Days,GS        3.98
5 Days,GS        4.40
6+ Days,GS        4.19

Maybe it has something to do with scheduling a BP exactly in the middle of starts.

I don’t get the point of overworking your bullpen to rest your starters.  Especially since a rested started doesn’t guarantee an effective starter.  So what do you do the day after a bullpen game when the starter gives up 4 in the first and you’re down 6-0 in the 3rd?

Just call up an AAAA or AAA arm and take any lumps that go along with it.

Finally broke down and purchased last two months of mlb.tv for $39. I'm guessing I've spent close to $500 watching Sox game at various bars.

First time in years I didn't subscribe. I've been watching 10+min game summary on Youtube every day.

This is fun.

I have mlb.tv.  One thing I like is being able to watch archived games.  It means I only have to watch the parts I know I'm going to enjoy. 😄

Tolle got 24 swings and misses on his pitches, the most by a Red Sox pitcher in more than three years.

I know it's the A's but that is incredible. That's the best friend to keep down the pitch count. I've seen pitchers throw so many fouled pitched then to lose the batter to a walk, it's frustrating.

Having two rookie starting pitcher is a great accomplishment for Bres and his baseball people. The best news is that neither (under current CBA) will earn service time this year. Thus they are under control for another six years (unless Tolle finishes in top two of ROY).

It now appears the trade for Durbin has worked well despite sending two good pitchers to the Brewers. A gold glove candidate 3B with 4 more years of service time is a good get.

I do hope to see Arias in September and put the distant between the future and Story.

Bennett, too.

Wuth Tolle and Bennett, the question was never effectiveness but rather workload…

I thought the Weissert demotion and Burgos promotion might have been for that idea, but they used him up. They could demoted him and call up ____? (Rivera or Gamboa?)

I'd say yes.

I think I might've mentioned this last season or the off-season.  I think we know 12 of our 15 key players for 2028 team.  And maybe 9 of our 2030.  That's a lot of flexibility and a great base to build on.

I'm not sure they used him up.  If we run into another marathon, and he throws 35 pitches tomorrow, then demote him in favor Rivera/Gamboa.  But with our BP having throw -0- pitches last night, no current decision is required.

This is one reason why a weaker farm may not be a real bad thing. We don't really need major farm infusions over the next 2-4 years, other than Arias and maybe one or two from Gonzales, Valera, Godbout, Schaffner, Hull & Holobetz.

This is what soxprospects projects with some blanks (and players) added by me, where I thing there is a gap:

2028:

SP: Crochet, Suarez, Tolle, Bennett, _____, Bello, Crawford, Holobetz, Wehunt

RP: ______, ______, Slaten, Miller, Moran, Weissert, Kelly, Rivera, Phillips, Mullins

C: _____, Wong, Jo Garcia

1B: Contreras, Casas (Mead, Brannon)

2B: Mead, Seigler (Romy/Winnay/MWhite)

SS: Arias, Monasterio (Cheng)

3B: Durbin, Romero (Romero)

LF: Duran, White (Anthony, Gonzales)

CF: Rafaela (Gutierrez, White, Campbell)

RF: Abreu (Gonzales, White)

DH: Anthony, Campbell, Gonzales, Brannon (Winnay/Cespedes)

2030:

SP: Crochet, Suarez, Tolle, Bennett, _____, Valera, Delzine, LaFavor, Holobetz, Wehunt (D Brown, Monegro, Ziehl, B Morgan)

RP: _____, _____, Bello, Moran, ____, ____, Phillips, Rivera, Mullins (Bastardo, Paez, Finley, Cason, Futrell)

C: Primera, Jo Garcia (Ge Rodrigues/Heyman)

1B: Gonzales (Mead)

2B: Mead, Seigler (Winnay/MWhite)

SS: Arias, Mataczynski (Soto/Ramos/Brito))

3B: Durbin, Godbout, Romero

LF: Anthony, Hull, YRod (Shelar)

CF: Rafaela, Hull (Rivas)

RF: ______, Campbell, Gutierrez (Silverio)

DH: ______, Schaffner, Brannon (Cespedes)

There will be more _____, but the ones I placed could be all there is needed.
