What's your take on this team right now? Can they creep back into the pathetic AL Wild Card race, or is this a mirage?

Who freaking knows where this team is going.  There are some positive signs though.  Pitching has been pretty damn good.  Bats are waking up a bit.  Durbin has become somewhat of a spark plug.  New dude Seigler has really capitalized on his small sample.  Contreras and Rafaela have been steady contributors.

Sure hope Anthony gets back soon.

Agree lineup is getting more bat to ball I’d like to see us win 4 out of next 5 it sets up nicely.

lineup needs to be left alone… maybe swap Duran and seigler if he keeps pounding. Thats it.

Masa needs to bat everyday until RA gets back, or we make a trade.

Narvaez has been awful ABS challenges and 5 RBI’s in 137 AB’s get him and Gaspar out of lineup.

Over the last three tracking periods by B-Ref:

  • Over the past 28 days, our OPS ranked #23.
  • Over the past 14 days, our OPS ranked #18.
  • Over the past 7 days, our OPS ranked #7.

Small sample sizes, and I think we need a bat, but directionally positive.

And Cavalli is tough.

Trends are a real thing in MLB.

Liking Siegler.  Hes not a guy I want starting 140 games, but he certainly could be a serviceable short term fix…

Breslow can be blamed for some things, but he can't be blamed for Mayer and Anthony being complete washouts so far this season.

Blamed for washouts no, but expectations yes.

Next to hockey refs, MLB chUMPIRES are the worst.

Actually, hockey refs are fine and pretty well respected.  Baseball umpires are BAD because 50% of the time, the calls are not what you want them to be.

Yeah, I don't understand why Yoshida doesn't play more.  Like tonight, for example.

Hockey refs aren't even refs; they're game managers. And I seriously doubt they're well respected. I don't understand why the Nats' runner just didn't run over the mound and head for third.

Anthony is going to be fine if he can stay on the field

Durbin leads all AL 3rd baseman in DRS with 8.

Durbin has been hot but his overall OPS this year is still below.700. But you’re right-he can sure pick it at 3B

Matt Chapman leads MLB with 14.

Hardly a surprise, he’s probably the second best fielding 3rd stacker of the last 20 years behind Nolan Arenado.  Amazingly, they were high school teammates at El Toro HS in California.  Chapman was a couple years behind Arenado.

I know that Cavalli can be tough, but Narvaez struck out on a pitch that was going to hit him in the face.  Contreras struck out on three pitches outside the strike zone, and Abreu just K'd on a pitch where the catcher had to throw him out at 1st.

I'm sure these chUMPS will get it wrong. It goes with the job.

How's about a line drive towards the mound?

I actually did that once in Little League.  Pitcher almost hit me twice and somebody yelled out of the stands “hit him”.  I lined the next pitch off the pitchers foot or ankle.  Everyone was laughing.

So the guy who intentionally started it is still in the game. F'ing umps.

It’s going to happen every time Contreras strikes out if he can’t just walk away from someone saying something.
