Right here! Right now!  All that matters! That’s why that Christian Vazquez trade got bashed so harshly (which it did at first).

Huh? Point? Bashed, or praised. Opinions on trades can change from game to game, week to week, month to month, and year to year. Look how the Sale trade looked as time went along with Atlanta as everyone watched him win the CY after being traded not only for a suspect, but the Red Sox generously paid $17M of his contract. All opinions, and grades of trades are subject to change at the drop of a hat, which is nothing new.

2 thoughts;    regarding Yoshida,  the Sox will get to pay out his entire remaining 2026 and 2027 salary in any event,  SO, see if you can move him for any price up to 99.9% of the remaining cost, clear the roster spot and use it to protect a RS Rule 5 eligible MiLB player.   The roster slot issue will become more evident when & IF, Anthony ever returns

Regarding Duran , the Sox will not extend him,  he will cost another $7-$8 million next arb  round, so again free up the spot and try to get any 2 armed, 2 legged young player to take this position and move on, wishing him well .     He tried hard but never had all that much skill except for basepath speed and probably maximized his potential up to a middling ceiling.    He is a certifiable, low esteem/self confidence head case  who was bullied by his father IMO.

The Sox seem to attract head cases , many of which show up on TalkSox

Someone might pay more than min wage for Yoshida, but not by much, so yes, assume we pay 99% of his contract, if someone takes him.

Duran might need some money added, too, but only if we want something of value back. I think someone will want him and give up a promising single A player or two- not much more, at this point. One plus is he is still just arb eligible, so any team can just walk away.

If IKF gets healthy, he may bring something back of minimal value- same with Wong, Coulombe and T Guerrero.

Gray is the one guy that may bring back a useful piece or two. My guess is, we will want someone who will be part of the 2017 and beyond plans.

Chapman's 2027 control makes it hard for me to suggest we trade him, but I'd listen to offers.

Contreras has 2 years remaining, so I'd listen but not settle on lower return values.

Duran is already making $7mill tjis year.  Next year he likely falls somewhere in the $10-12mill range…

I'm guessing $8.5M to $10M, but likely somewhere else.

I knew the current year $7M+  but what justifies a raise ?  I guess longevity , not production,  counts more

Also that everyone gets raises in arbitration…

Maybe.  Depends what each side offers…

That wasn't through ARB, that was negotiated. We don't know what it would be if he went to arbitration TBH.

But if he goes through arbitration next year, $7mill is the starting point and he is getting a raise…

Probably not a 5M raise though.

Maybe not, but doesn’t that depend on the Sox offer?

They won't give him $12M. They probably want to offer $6M.

My guess is he'll be traded, and someone else can make the arb offer.

probably true, why give him 12m when you can get a hurt pitcher like sandoval for that coin

They did get Chapman for $13M a couple winters ago.

I wish we knew what teams offered for Duran. (Maybe we'd all have said no.)

Doesn’t seem that way with various reports coming out last year. Not many GMs wanted to deal with him. I remember one sayid it always seemed like he was trying to “win” the trade.

the best trade is when both sides win.
