The local beat writers have said that the Sox are hearing from other orgs expressing interest in Chapman, but the Sox have said no thanks. It's dumb dumb Bob Nightengale who is saying that the Sox are looking to move Chapman. He has zero sources and was saying that they were dealing Chapman last season as well.

If Breslow isn’t going to be here long term do you want him making decisions now that affect this year, next year, or beyond?

These are two separate issues. I'm saying what is currently happening. You are asking what should be done in some alternate universe. I don't control the Sox. If I did, Breslow wouldn't have been made the CBO to begin with.

The Sox are stuck with Breslow for now. If they fire him, they will find NOBODY to replace him with. If he was the 13th pick this time. The next person will be the 25th pick. They will get hung up on over and over again. Even Eddie Romero Jr would likely say no this time.

I understand, but what is currently happening is Breslow, and just being stuck with him is not a good situation to be in.

He needs to hire a personable GM that can actually speak with people. He needs his own Sam Kennedy, but a guy that's not sleazy.

They also need an LL to go along with him.

The smartest guy in the room is one who listens to others' opinions and actually values their input -- especially those closer to the scenes at lower levels or advanced scouting or bird-dogging that builds relationships with potential draft picks or international signees and their families and coaches -- and trusts the veteran wisdom and instincts of a consensus before making personnel decisions.

Theo should step up.

Theo is a sort of baseball hero in two different cities.  Making him CBO would be a major upgrade over Breslow and a huge PR move for the franchise.  I find it hard to believe Epstein wants the job, otherwise there is absolutely no reason that tjis hasn’t already happened…

It feels doubtful the Red Sox will get an impact bat at the trade deadline.

Also sounds like they want to get rid of Aroldis Chapman.

I haven't read any articles on Chapman.  Does one of the RS writers have anything on the RS looking to get rid of him?

If the only role of the GM is to make public statements, don’t blame the GM if he has to be sleazy; blame the person(s) creating the message content…

Arizona has Perdomo and Marte at SS/2B who each were arguably the best SS and best 2B in the NL last year.

Lawlar didn't move to the outfield because he couldn't play SS.

They brought in Arenado.  I think if they had plans to play Lawler at 3rd, they'd have done so instead of trading for Arenado.

Point is, it's not like he moved because he couldn't play SS.

But Whats the point of swapping Mayer for Lawlar?

”Our SS only has an OPS+ of 74 after 320 career PA.  We should improve on the position by acquiring a SS with an OPS+ of 54 after 130 career PA!”

The Sox preferred Mayer over Lawlar on draft day and should stick with that assessment…

I don't think he'll be CBO, but I think he should step into the LL role.

No, just NIghtengale. Local writers have said opposite.

Internal communication doesn't matter I guess?

Lawlar was moved out of the IF because of some real bad defense down the stretch run last year. No, he can't play SS at the MLB level.

Not if the response is always to blame the messenger and avoid the folks crafting the message.

Lawlar is a stupid option anyway.

”Mayer is taking too long to become a productive hitter!! We need to shake things up by getting another SS with less success and less experience!  Thats the fastest way!”

That's why you get someone that can "actually" do internal messaging, not whatever the Sox are doing right now.

We come up with loads of stupid options around here.

Well, he is kind of the Captain Obvious #1 pick for a player to be moved at the deadline if the team is out of it.

But I think that, if they thought he was a real SS, they'd have given him the 3B job.

Being a good player doesn't mean the RS want to get rid of him.

No, but he's one of the top closers in the game and not under control for 2027, and the Sox are 27-36.  He's a pretty good bet to be traded next month.

It should if the guy doesn't have a long contract and the Red Sox stink this year and they want to be good in future years.

Being a good player that will be a free agent at the end of the season absolutely does make him a candidate…

Brannon is a right-handed power prospect who stands at 6 feet tall and weighs 245 pounds. He belted a 464ft bomb.

Soxprospects has him listed at 210lb. (#33 Prospect for the Sox)

Anyone know his weight? (1.039 OPS, 9 homers, 8 doubles at Portland)

The Red Sox drafted Brannon in the ninth round (No. 279 overall) out of Randleman High in North Carolina in 2022, then signed him to a well-above slot value bonus of $712,500. The second highest ninth round bonus that year was $390,000 lower. He received the second-highest bonus among all picks in rounds 5-9 that year.
