I don't think it was a language issue, Devers also understands English well, much better than he speaks it.  I think this is just his behavior. 

He got back to the dugout and avoided a butt tap from a coach/teammate too. Devers knows when a ship is sinking and doesn't feel compelled to be the good soldier. He was right about Breslow. He's probably right about whatever is going on in SF. He just wants to show up and hit dingers. Let him do that.
