It's a plus for the BP that he wasn't taken out too early.

That's why they've lost all of his starts, he's killed the bullpen.

Well today he had an exceptionally good start.

It's the longest he's ever gone in a game. His previous "best" start was probably his first: 5 IP, 5 H, 1 B, 11 K, 0 ER.

How bad do you need to be doing, this early in the season, to homer, double and walk, but just get your OPS up to .565?

(Answer: .471 after 17 games by Story.)

I've seen guys from .450 to .750 in two games, frequently, this early in the season.  Muncy went from .623 to .946 in one game.  Soler was at .613 after 48 PAs, to .849 only 31 PAs later.

Elementary my dear Watson.

Thats the issue with the Sox bullpen - too many arms best suited for mop up duty…

Nice game again by Early, he gave up his first homer in his short career (33 innings).

He's had a knack for run prevention.

Finally a convincing win. Hopefully it’s not a one and done. Couldn’t join the game thread today because I was flying to Palm Springs where I’ll be for a few days.
I know some of you missed me; others not so much 😉

Let's hope he's around long enough to give up 400 homers in his career.  That would put him in some pretty good company, including guys like Randy Johnson, Steve Carlton and Warren Spahn.  Not holding my breath, but ...

Baby steps. I believe his future with the Sox looks good.

Oh sure. I've been a fan for a few years now. People just need to be reasonable with their expectations.

He looks like a young Clayton Kershaw.

As someone who saw young Kershaw at Dodgers stadium a few times, no.

Especially when you consider by the time Kershaw was Connelly’s age, he was 61-37, with a 2.79 ERA across 944 IP, along with a Cy Young award and 25.0 bWAR on his resume…

How many Playa Bowls were consumed for that gain?

0.   Those are health food.  Might as well ask about his granola consumption……

Kershaw had one of the greatest pitches of all time in his repertoire. Early just has a lot decent pitches. They are both tall, white lefties. Hard to really compare the two otherwise. Eary's stuff moves in and out. Kershaw's was really up and down.

The Sox are 22nd in runs, but just 4-5 runs from the mean.

16th in OBP at .316

23rd in OPSat .662 (#15 is .698)

26th in SLG at .346

29th in ISO at .113 (We knew we had a power shortage) Last place is .112

11th in K% 24% (actually 19th place)

Our pitching is at a 0.0 fWAR (27th)

I think this closes the book on the great OBP vs SLG debate.  Our OBP perspective, we are like 16....From a slg perspective we are 26th.....From an overall runs scoring perspective.....hey look, smack dab in the middle.

Maybe there is something to this OPS thing.
